Eli Lilly headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, US, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. A panel of independent advisors to the Food and Drug Administration on Monday recommended Eli Lilly 's Alzheimer's drug donanemab, paving the way for the treatment to receive full approval in the U.S. later this year. If cleared for use, Eli Lilly's donanemab would become the second Alzheimer's drug of its kind to enter the U.S. market after another treatment called Leqembi from Biogen and its Japanese partner Eisai. In a second vote, advisors unanimously said the benefits of Eli Lilly's donanemab outweigh its risks. It was another blow to Eli Lilly, which initially expected donanameb to win approval at the end of last year.

The right-wing Alternative for Germany party won a record number of votes in European Union elections on Sunday, in a sharp rebuke to Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s governing three-party coalition in Germany and a sign of the rightward political shift across the continent. The party, known as AfD, captured 16 percent of the vote, placing second behind Germany’s conservative Christian Democrats, which won 30 percent. It was AfD’s strongest showing in a nationwide election, and it came as Mr. Scholz’s coalition has reached record-low levels of popularity in the country, according to polls. A spokesman for Mr. Scholz has ruled out early elections. Describing her party’s showing a “major success,” Ms. Weidel said at a news conference in Berlin that the government was working against, not for, Germany.

More than 300 million voters in the 27 countries that make up the European Union are heading to the polls to elect the new European Parliament’s 720 members. The Parliament approves or rejects E.U. It also says yea or nay, by simple majority in a secret ballot, to the appointment of the president of the E.U. In the 2019 election, Ursula von der Leyen, a conservative, came dangerously close to being rejected as the European Commission president, securing the Parliament’s approval by just nine votes. This time, Ms. von Leyen, likely to be designated as president for a second five-year term, could face worse odds.

After months of fighting over a pay package promised to Elon Musk six years ago — one that included stock grants now worth about $56 billion — matters are finally coming to a head. At Tesla’s annual meeting on Thursday, shareholders are set to vote on whether to reapprove the compensation deal after a Delaware judge voided it in January. The outcome could shift Musk’s relationship with the company, and Tesla officials aren’t taking any chances. Regardless of the vote’s outcome, further lawsuits and other battles may follow, some of which could test the corporate legal system. Here’s our guide to how different situations could play out.

New York CNN —Will Lewis is quickly losing the confidence of his newsroom. At The Post, according to more than a half-dozen staffers who spoke with CNN Thursday, morale has fallen off a cliff since Lewis abruptly ousted Executive Editor Sally Buzbee on Sunday. Lewis’ uncouth dispatching of Buzbee poisoned much of the goodwill he had earned with his employees over the preceding six months. Indeed, the day after he announced Buzbee’s exit, staffers pressed him in a town hall about the circumstances that led to her departure. Will Lewis, the publisher of The Washington Post, finds himself embroiled in a scandal affecting the newsroom itself.

CNN —At a time when Americans and the Federal Reserve are clamoring for clear-cut data about the state of the economy, Friday’s jobs report was much more opaque than everyone had hoped. Unemployment roseThe unemployment rate rose to 4% from 3.9%. The rise in unemployment can be traced to the findings of the household survey (one of two surveys that feed into the monthly jobs report). Compared to the establishment survey that showed the robust 272,000 net gain in jobs, the household survey faltered. That’s in the service sector, everything from personal care services, dry cleaning, cleaning and home maintenance and vehicle maintenance, she said.

Seventeen years later, gentle parenting is now the default among my professional-class millennial peers. Teachers blame gentle parenting for bad behavior in classrooms, which some believe is accelerating an exodus from the profession. Ample research links an authoritative parenting style — such as gentle parenting — with the most favorable psychosocial outcomes in children. These are among the questions that gentle parents must contend with, often on the fly. When gentle parenting goes wrong, everyone takes note.

"They know how to put on a tight gun case." Biden's trial is not necessarily a lost cause. This arrangement has perversely allowed Weiss to politicize the proceedings unchecked, Hunter Biden's lawyers argued. There's no evidence that Biden even loaded or used the gun before his brother's widow, Hallie Biden, threw it out. "Obviously, the conduct that the government ought to be addressing is whether somebody is on drugs and high while they're shooting a gun," Levin said.
