CNN —Three people have died and three others have been hospitalized after drinking milkshakes contaminated with Listeria bacteria from a restaurant in Tacoma, Washington, health officials say. Investigators found the outbreak was linked to ice cream machines that were not cleaned properly at a Frugals restaurant in Tacoma, according to a release from the Washington State Department of Health. Two of the three who survived said they had a milkshake from the same Frugals in Tacoma before getting sick. The health department said no other Frugals restaurants are believed to be affected by the outbreak. Anyone who ate at the Tacoma restaurant between May 29 and August 7 and is showing symptoms of Listeria is urged to contact a doctor, the agency cautioned.

Zuberi was taken into federal custody after a woman escaped from his Klamath Falls home last month, according to a news release from the FBI field office in Portland. The woman was kidnapped from Seattle and sexually assaulted before being placed in a “makeshift cell” in Zuberi’s garage, investigators said. “Zuberi told the victim she was under arrest,” the Klamath Falls Police Department said in a news release. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where detectives responded to a report of a rape victim, according to Klamath Falls police. Klamath Falls Mayor Carol Westfall told the local newspaper Herald and News that she and her husband own the home where Zuberi allegedly held the woman.

CNN —A New Hampshire couple is suing Eataly Boston after a woman says she slipped and fell on a piece of prosciutto in the store, resulting in a broken ankle. As Cohen approached the area, she says she “slipped and fell on a piece of prosciutto on the floor injuring her left ankle resulting in a fracture,” the lawsuit states. Cohen’s medical expenses as a result of the injury were more than $7,500, according to court documents, which included the hospital fees, doctor fees and physical therapy. The lawsuit claims that Eataly failed to make sure the floor was safe and “free from unnecessary dangers,” for patrons. CNN has reached out to Eataly Boston and the Cohen’s attorney for comment.

All three women received treatment for their injuries, some of which were more serious than others. The three women were in the middle of a wide stretch of the river on Wednesday evening when the otter appeared behind one of them and attacked, Royce explained. “I didn’t even get a chance to get the words, ‘There is an otter behind you,’ out of me before it attacked her,” Royce said. Royce’s face, arms, ears, hands, legs and ankle were all bit by the otter as it attacked for about five minutes. The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has posted signs at various recreational fishing sites advising people of otter activity in the area.

CNN —A rare walrus calf is under 24/7 cuddle care after he was found wandering alone in northern Alaska last week. The Pacific walrus calf, estimated to be about a month old, arrived at the Alaska SeaLife Center on August 1 after being spotted on Alaska’s North Slope, about four miles inland from the Beaufort Sea, according to the Alaska SeaLife Center. The walrus is receiving cuddle care after he was found in an unusual spot in Alaska. The calf was moved to a warehouse, where he stayed overnight under constant watch, and then transported by plane to the Alaska SeaLife Center facility. The walrus remains under constant care while he continues to eat well and remains alert, the center said in an update posted to its Facebook page on Saturday.

CNN —The actress Leah Remini has filed a lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its leader, David Miscavige, claiming she has suffered years of harassment, intimidation and defamation as part of an organized campaign of retaliation for her criticism of the church since leaving it a decade ago. Carter Vigh had asthma his entire life and always carried his inhaler, his parents, James and Amber Vigh, told CNN Canadian partner, CBC. Carter’s parents told CBC that their son died July 11 after visiting the emergency room for an asthma attack. CNN —Seven people were injured on a Hawaiian Airlines flight to Sydney, Australia, on Friday when the plane was buffeted by severe turbulence, the airline confirmed. The turbulence struck about five hours after the plane departed from Honolulu Friday afternoon, a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson told CNN. Hawaiian Airlines said it has been in contact with the passenger but was not able to provide an update on their condition as of Monday evening. The incident comes months after severe turbulence on a Hawaiian Airlines flight injured 36 people flying from Arizona to Honolulu in December, requiring 20 people to be taken to emergency rooms, CNN reported. CNN —A 2-year-old boy in Norwalk, Ohio, shot his pregnant mother in the back, killing her and the unborn child, police say. Police received a call just after 1 p.m. on June 16 from the 31-year-old mother, who said she was “shot in the back by her 2-year-old son,” according to a news release from the Norwalk Police Department. Both the mother and her son “were found in the upstairs master bedroom, along with” a pistol, the release said. During their search, detectives seized an additional 12-round magazine for the pistol that the 2-year-old had gotten hold of in a nightstand in the master bedroom. The boy was put in the lake by his father, who is charged in both deaths, according to a St. Petersburg police affidavit. The Pinellas County medical examiner confirmed Monday that the cause of death was drowning, St. Petersburg police told CNN. CNN —A transgender woman has sued Maryland’s corrections department in federal court, alleging she was improperly housed with male inmates while jailed for three months in 2021 and 2022 – and was sexually assaulted and denied hormone treatment during that time. “I’m filing this lawsuit today because I don’t want what happened to me to happen to any other trans woman in the state of Maryland,” Gilliam said in a news conference Wednesday. She received hormone treatments for her gender dysphoria for 18 years before she was jailed, the suit says. After the assault, the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services took no action, the lawsuit alleges. It also required her to sign a waiver saying she wouldn’t hold the public safety department liable if anything happened to her in the men’s prison, it says.

CNN —Police are on the hunt for the people behind a “dime and dash” theft in northeast Philadelphia. At around 6 a.m. Thursday, thieves broke into an unmarked trailer left in a Walmart parking lot, the Philadelphia Police Department told CNN, and made off with about 2 million dimes. Dimes were scattered across the parking lot and the main road nearby. The driver had picked up the coins at the US Mint in Philadelphia and was headed for Florida, according to CNN affiliate WPVI-TV. He left the trailer in the parking lot and went home to get some sleep before the next leg of his journey, the station reported.

CNN —A 90-year-old woman will finally walk across the stage and receive her diploma, 71 years after she first enrolled in college. Joyce DeFauw, then Joyce Viola Kane, started her freshman year at Northern Illinois University in 1951 with a plan to graduate with a degree in home economics. “I went to school for three and a half years, but decided to leave after I met him.” DeFauw said.
