New York CNN —Modelo Especial is now officially America’s best-selling beer, dethroning Bud Light from the top spot it has largely held for the past two decades. Year-to-date sales data through August 12 shows it was tight, but Modelo eked out the top spot with an 8.34 share vs. 8.28 for Bud Light. Summer has been a bright spot for the Mexican lager, with Modelo surpassing Bud Light in May, June and July monthly sales. Modelo has held a 9.1 share for the past four weeks as Bud Light slipped to a 7 share of off-premise beer sales. There’s been some “material improvement,” for the Anheuser-Busch (BUD) brand Bud Light, according to Beer Business Daily, a trade publication.

Consumers looking to save money are scaling back on big-ticket discretionary purchases, while spending at Club name Costco Wholesale (COST) continues to thrive. Excluding impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, total company core-comparable sales were up 5% on an annual basis last month. Costco's "stronger than expected results are a signal it continues to take share in this difficult consumer environment," analysts at UBS wrote in a note. This strategy offers higher value proposition to customers, allowing the company to raise prices while still maintaining customer engagement. Aug 1 (Reuters) - Molson Coors Beverage (TAP.N) on Tuesday raised its annual sales and profit forecasts, boosted by strong demand for its core brands Miller Lite and Coors Light. For the Americas segment, Molson Coors' net sales rose 10.7% in the second quarter as it shipped more premium beers. Molson Coors now expects full-year 2023 sales to grow in high single-digit percentage, on a constant currency basis. Annual underlying income before income taxes is expected to increase between 23% and 26%, on a constant-currency basis, compared with a low single-digit percentage increase forecast earlier. However, Molson Coors posted second-quarter sales of $3.27 billion, missing estimates of $3.29 billion, according to Refinitiv data.

That’s a drastic change from the same quarter a year ago, when Bud Light sales were higher than Coors Light and Miller Light sales combined. Net income for the second quarter grew to $342 million, up from $47 million in the same period a year earlier. Since then, sales of Bud Light have been consistently falling by more than 20% every week (compared to the same week prior) since April. In May, the seemingly unthinkable happened: Modelo Especial displaced Bud Light from its top-selling spot in the United States for the first time, ending a roughly two-decade run for Bud Light. The beer giant is set to announce earnings — which will fully cover the Bud Light sales slide — on Thursday.

Commentary on the results Almost all calls begin with a discussion of the reported results. The reported quarter ended May 31 and the call was hosted on June 30, a full month after the quarter ended. By listening into the call, an investor could see that the reported results did not tell the full story around Wynn's business in China. As with the reported results, any comments on supply chains and customer dynamics could prove relevant to the direction of the stock. It can be quantitative, by which management provides actual targets for sales, earnings, and/or industry metrics.

We know there are so many reasons why this bull market has eluded so many. It's sudden broadening into health care, transports and financials just when we were told the bull was slain by its lack of breadth. I hope readers here know that I felt that only by tuning out the Fed could you make maximum money in the market. You simply had to ignore the verbiage, block out the gasbags who simply failed to see the two-staged bull market right in front of them. Needless to say, if you needed any evidence that we are in a bull market, the rally in that dog may be enough to make the prosecution rest.

July 10 (Reuters) - Constellation Brands' (STZ.N) Modelo Especial was the top-selling beer brand in the United States for a second consecutive month in June, after first dethroning Anheuser-Busch InBev's (ABI.BR) Bud Light in May. Modelo Especial was the top-selling beer brand for the four weeks ended July 1, with an 8.7% share of overall beer sales through retail stores for the period, while Bud Light came in second with a 7% share, according to consulting company Bump Williams, which sources data from NielsenIQ. Sales of Bud Light and Budweiser dropped 28% and 11.7%, respectively, from a year earlier, while Modelo Especial sales rose 8.5%. Azer added that consumers had quickly figured out AB InBev's other beer brands like Michelob Ultra and Natural Light, which are also seeing a fall in sales. Before the backlash, Natural Light was gaining due to cost-conscious consumers opting for cheaper six-packs.

New York CNN —Mexican-made Modelo Especial is the top-selling beer in the United States for the second straight month, once again snatching the crown from Bud Light. Dollar sales for the pre-July 4 period continued to be grim for Bud Light, with sales falling 28.5%, while Modelo’s grew 8.5% during the same time period. Bud Light initially lost the title last month, which it has largely held for two decades. In June, Bud Light rolled out a new marketing campaign to help turn around sales, centering around country music and NFL players. However, Bud Light continues to be the country’s top-selling beer year to date, holding 8.7% share of the beer market.

While the natural inclination is to cheer a strong jobs market, investors are responding with a boo and bailing out of risk assets. The thinking goes like this: If people are at work and the labor market is stronger than expected, the ability of the consumer to absorb higher prices is also greater than previously thought. If the ability to absorb higher prices is greater than expected, above target (2%) inflation can last longer than estimated, regardless of the current fed funds rate. If the current fed funds rate isn't stopping hiring and consumers' ability to absorb higher prices, the rate simply isn't high enough. Energy is tough: We really need China's reopening to pick up as demand will be the key to higher energy prices.
