WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is making a big push to raise money for his reelection effort before the end of the year, appearing at seven events through next Monday — with more to come. Biden will also attend a fundraiser Wednesday near the White House and another one on Monday in Philadelphia. One of the Boston events, titled “You've Got a Friend in Joe,” is billed as an “evening concert" with Taylor and Biden. Taylor, the winner of six Grammy Awards, helped kick off a White House event in 2022 celebrating the Inflation Reduction Act, a climate and health care bill that Biden signed into law. As of the last fundraising reporting deadline at the end of September, Biden and his party reported $91 million cash on hand.

[1/3] U.S. President Joe Biden speaks during a reception at the White House ahead of the 46th Kennedy Center Honors gala, in Washington, U.S. December 3, 2023. "We're putting in the work across our fundraising program and look forward to again outperforming the MAGA field," Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said. Next week, Biden will raise money in Pennsylvania and Maryland with the states' Democratic governors Josh Shapiro and Wes Moore. Recent polling has shown the GOP frontrunner leading Biden in hypothetical matchups in key swing states and on the national level. Hollywood and the entertainment industry overall lean Democratic, at least when it comes to fundraising, according to OpenSecrets, which tracks campaign contributions.

“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running,” he said, saying Democrats “cannot let him win.”The comment, made during a fundraiser at a private home outside Boston, offered perhaps the starkest rationale to date for Biden’s reelection decision-making. The remark suggested Biden may not have sought a second term if Trump had not decided to run again. Biden took on Trump directly in the first of those fundraisers, warning that his predecessor is “telling us what he’s going to do. Two other events in the area will bring in millions more for Biden’s campaign war chest. With its significant early investment, Biden’s reelection effort has targeted key media markets in familiar battleground states – Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada.

With a cash haul from elite party donors expected to reach into the millions, the Los Angeles event could help ease concerns among Democrats about Biden's reelection chances. As of the last fundraising reporting deadline at the end of September, Biden and his party reported $91 million cash on hand. During the 2020 Democratic primary campaign, Smith and Costos hosted Biden's first major fundraiser in the area, during a Los Angeles swing that raised over $1 million. At the time, Katzenberg was involved in planning events for another Democratic candidate, Pete Buttigieg, who is now Biden's transportation secretary. Katzenberg's former business partners at DreamWorks, Geffen and Spielberg, will be at the Smith and Costos event.

CNN —In hindsight, Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut “A Star is Born” served as the commercial tune-up that paved the way for “Maestro,” as both films deal with the price of art as well as loving an artist. Before getting to the movie itself, a word about the controversy it triggered over the prosthetic nose that Cooper donned to better resemble his Jewish character. Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper in "Maestro," which Cooper also directed. Still, watching Cooper and Mulligan portray their characters across decades, it’s hard not to be impressed, while nurturing a greater appreciation for why Cooper found Bernstein’s contributions and complications deserving of such a tribute. Cooper and Mulligan’s work should be very much in those conversations, if not the movie itself.

Joaquin Phoenix Photo: AppleTV+Joaquin Phoenix finds Napoleon morose, anguished, petulant and a bit childlike, which reminds me that although I enjoyed his morose, anguished, petulant and a bit childlike performance as the Joker, his decision to play Jesus Christ as morose, anguished, petulant and a bit childlike, in 2019’s little-seen “ Mary Magdalene ,” felt a bit off. Mr. Phoenix even appeared morose, etc. (Being 49, Mr. Phoenix is too old for all but the final moments.) Most of the movie is a vaguely comical swipe at Napoleon in domestic life—an awkward lover, a jealous husband, an inveterate complainer, and in sum an annoying twerp. Mr. Phoenix’s Napoleon could never have commanded so much as a squadron of the Salvation Army, and though the movie is sprinkled with a few reasonably hearty battle scenes, overall it’s something like Mr. Scott’s Waterloo.

The animatronic model from “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is part of a sale organized by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, which, like CNN, is owned by Warner Bros. The model is expected to sell for up to $1 million. This model comes from Rambaldi’s own collection, as did the animatronic figure of E.T. NEW YORK (AP) — Colman Domingo has a commanding physical presence, an expressive face and soulful eyes. His performance in George C. Wolfe's “Rustin" — Domingo's first time atop the call sheet — has made the 53-year-old journeyman actor a favorite for a best actor Oscar nomination. Though celebrated — Colman shared in an Obie award for ensemble — once the play closed, Domingo found himself bartending again. “I would be talking with Mark Rickler the production designer, ‘Oh, Colman could do that.’ Part of my brain would go, ‘Oh, Colman could do that,’' recalls Wolfe. “And she clutches her heart and says, ‘Oh, Colman.’ And then we started hiking again.”___Follow AP Film Writer Jake Coyle at: http://twitter.com/jakecoyleAP

Everyone had resigned themselves to the fact that “The Hunger Games” ended in 2015. But Suzanne Collins’ Katniss Everdeen saga was over. And while the team was excited about the possibility of working together again, there were some nerves about whether or not there was an appetite for Hunger Games movies “without Katniss,” Lawrence told The Associated Press in a recent interview. And he felt like a star.”For Lucy Gray Baird, the District 12 tribute Snow is assigned to mentor for the 10th Hunger Games, Lawrence already had someone in mind. “Rather than seeing it as a pressure cooker just waiting to explode, I see it as a really big blessing.”Blyth, in his first starring role in Hollywood, felt some pressure.

The DVD service was particularly handy when I decided to embark on a career-spanning marathon of all Martin Scorsese’s movies. The most rented movie overall was “The Blind Side” (never saw it) and the most rented TV show “Dexter” (a video store rental for me in 2010). The “Tár” outlier speaks to one of the beautiful aspects of the Netflix DVD. (Don’t sleep on De Niro’s deliciously unhinged performance in “The King of Comedy.”) For all Netflix DVD users, though, De Niro rests at a healthy but comparatively modest fifth place. In this way, the DVD service acted more as an overstuffed old-school video store.

TOKYO (AP) — Godzilla, the nightmarish radiation spewing monster born out of nuclear weapons, has stomped through many movies, including several Hollywood remakes. It was a mood that fit his supernatural “very Japanese” Godzilla, Yamazaki said at the Tokyo International Film Festival, where “Godzilla Minus One” is the closing film. That helped inspire the last Japanese Godzilla, the 2016 “Shin Godzilla,” directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Toho studios hadn’t made a Godzilla film since 2004. Indeed, Schwarzenegger says that having a vision of what you want is a key first step towards achieving your goals. "It can begin by looking back in time and thinking very broadly about the things you used to love," Schwarzenegger writes. "Your obsessions are a clue to your earliest vision for yourself, if only you had paid attention to them in the beginning." In his own case, Schwarzenegger says his initial vision was simply "of America." Though he didn't yet know how he would do it, he had a clear goal of coming to the United States.

DALLAS (AP) — A miniature X-wing Starfighter used in a “Star Wars” film sold for over $3 million during an auction over the weekend of items both collected and created by longtime Hollywood model-maker Greg Jein. The auction house said that everyone from model-makers to collectors and science-fiction fans attended, making the event its best-attended in years. The Red Leader X-wing Starfighter that was used in the 1977 film “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" sold for about $3.1 million after a bidding duel between two collectors, the auction house said. Also going for an eye-popping amount was a “Star Wars” Stormtrooper costume that sold for $645,000. Zutavern said his friend had a love of Hollywood history, and a passion for seeking out items for his collection.

If there is one thing Donna and Ben Rosen love, it is modern architecture. Gwathmey, who died in 2009, was a prominent modernist architect known for working crisply geometric forms into houses of surprising luxury and drama. His clients included Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. The Rosens joined that club when they bought the house—in pristine condition—from its original owners in 2002, the year they married. “We’re stewards of this house,” says Donna, a former gallery owner.
