Maybe I’m old-fashioned and I don’t give a [expletive] or whatever.”Those comments drew immediate fire on social media. (The foundation, created in 1983, chooses the artists who are inducted, and is affiliated with the museum in Cleveland.) Interviews with four people with direct knowledge of the board vote, who spoke anonymously because the panel’s deliberations are confidential, paint a picture of urgency and rage inside the institution. While board members felt personally appalled by Wenner’s comments, they were also worried about the impact on the hall itself, and its vital relationships with artists — some of whom were already beginning to complain. This year’s honorees include Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Rage Against the Machine, the Spinners and George Michael, who died in 2016.

CNN —Jann Wenner, co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, has been removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s board after facing widespread criticism for controversial comments made in a New York Times interview published Friday about female and Black musicians. “Jann Wenner has been removed from the board of directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” Joel Peresman, the president and chief executive of the foundation, told the New York Times in a statement Saturday. CNN has reached out to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for comment. In the interview, he spoke about his decision to not include interviews with women and Black artists, and his remarks on the topic were widely criticized. He was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an individual in 2004, and is a co-founder of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

In a terse statement, the Cleveland-based Hall of Fame offered no reason for its move, saying, "Jann Wenner has been removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation." Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, has been removed from the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which he also helped found, one day after an interview with him was published in The New York Times in which he made comments that were widely criticized as sexist and racist. The foundation — which inducts artists into the hall of fame and was the organization behind the creation of its affiliated museum in Cleveland — made the announcement in a brief statement released Saturday. “Jann Wenner has been removed from the board of directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” the statement said. Joel Peresman, the president and chief executive of the foundation, declined to comment further when reached by phone. But the dismissal of Mr. Wenner comes after an interview with The Times, published Friday and timed to the publication of his new book, called “The Masters,” which collects his decades of interviews with rock legends like Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and Bono — all of them white and male.

The hottest ticket at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was not for the new auteur film from Hayao Miyazaki or Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the latest vehicle for Kate Winslet or Sean Penn, or grand prizewinners at Cannes and Venice. No, the most feverishly in-demand screening was for a 39-year-old movie that everyone in its sold-out audience could have watched at home, at the push of a button. “Stop Making Sense,” directed by Jonathan Demme, is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of the form, a joyful documentation (and celebration) of Talking Heads’ 1983 tour supporting their album “Speaking in Tongues.” The Toronto festival screening marked the debut of A24’s new restoration of the film ahead of its theatrical and IMAX rerelease later this month. “This is the greatest concert film ever!” he enthused with the musicians sitting next to him. That reunion was an event in itself, following what the frontman David Byrne recently described, with characteristic understatement, as an “ugly” breakup in 1991.

The other postponed dates were Sept. 9 in Baltimore, Sept. 12 and 14 in Pittsburgh, Sept. 16 in Uncasville, Connecticut, and Sept. 19 in Albany, New York. In a cease-and-desist order sent to Ramaswamy's lawyer on Aug. 23, music publisher BMI said Eminem took issue with the use of his music during Ramaswamy's campaign events. In response, the Ramaswamy campaign signaled the GOP hopeful will not perform the song again. CNN —Randy Meisner, who was a co-founding member of legendary rock band the Eagles and served as a bassist and vocalist, has died, according to an announcement on the band’s official site. “The Eagles are sad to report that founding member, bassist, and vocalist, Randy Meisner, passed away last night (July 26) in Los Angeles at age 77, due to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD),” the statement, posted on Thursday, read. “Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit,’” said the Eagles. Meisner’s musical career began with Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band as their vocalist and bassist.

"I remember sending a text in 2019 to someone saying if there was ever a Taylor Swift best-of tour, money becomes no object," he said. QuestionPro, a research company, found that the Eras Tour could result in $4.6 billion in consumer spending in the US. CNN —Dolly Parton isn’t interested in living on through artificial intelligence. The “Jolene” singer was asked about AI technology during a press conference in London that she appeared at to promote her upcoming album “Rockstar.”“I think I’ve left a great body of work behind,” Parton said, adding she doesn’t know how “they’ll keep me around.”She went on to say that she hopes albums like “Rockstar” will preserve her everlasting legacy, and that she’ll “have to decide on how much of that high-tech stuff I want to be involved in because I don’t want to leave my soul here on this Earth.”With a laugh, Parton said she feels like with that kind of technology she’d be “grounded here forever, so when I’m gone I want to fly with it.”“But I’ll be around, we’ll find ways to keep me here,” she said reassuringly, going on to thank the person who asked her the question and saying “I’m glad to know you still want me around.”For the time being, at least, Parton isn’t going anywhere. The country music star is set to release her hotly-anticipated album “Rockstar,” marking her first-ever rock and roll record featuring collaborations with music legends such as Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John and Stevie Nicks. The album also features collaborations with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Lizzo and Pink. Parton’s foray into rock genre comes after she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 after initially opting to “respectfully bow out,” saying in a statement on her Instagram at the time that she didn’t feel she’d “earned that right.”“Rockstar” will be released globally on November 17.

Did the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Gasp) Get It Right?

Dear listeners,I don’t have much reverence for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — a shadowy and arbitrary institution founded by record executives and music industry influencers who have historically hewed to a pretty narrow definition of rock ’n’ roll. However, this year’s inductees, which were announced earlier this week, represent one of the strongest classes in recent memory. “Rock ’n’ roll is not an instrument; rock ’n’ roll is not even a style of music,” he said. “Rock ’n’ roll is a spirit. Rock ’n’ roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and in life.”
