CNN —Donald Trump on Tuesday declared himself the “father of IVF,” a fertility treatment that has come under threat following the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. “We really are the party for IVF,” Trump told moderator and Fox News host Harris Faulkner. “Donald Trump called himself ‘the father of IVF.’ What is he talking about?” the vice president posted on social media late Tuesday. Many of those GOP opponents have said they do support IVF but criticized the legislation as unnecessary overreach and a political show vote. After previously refusing to commit either way, Trump earlier this month said he would veto a federal abortion ban.

In several swing-state polls, Harris has had some success in pulling closer to Trump on the economy. But the surveys also reveal a noticeable gap in support between the pro-abortion rights amendments and the Democratic presidential and Senate candidates who are campaigning on a pro-abortion rights platform. Pro-abortion rights ballot measures won in every state where they appeared on the ballot, including conservative-leaning ones, in the 2022 and 2023 elections. Similarly in Arizona, a proposed amendment to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution has clear majority support. In Montana, there’s little evidence that the presence of an abortion rights amendment has had a major effect on the race between three-term Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican challenger Tim Sheehy. For example, in Missouri, public polling indicates broad support for a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights, while Republican Sen. One measure on the ballot in New York state this November means two very different things to its supporters and its opponents. Advocates of the measure argue that it is simply a way to codify New Yorkers’ right to reproductive care. The Coalition to Protect Kids-NY has taken to calling the measure the “Parent Replacement Act.” The group argues that the measure would be used to strip rights from parents and push transgender rights for minors, in particular. The coalition's website includes no articles or other information about the ballot measure seeking to codify a right to abortion. Hochul’s office has helped lead the state’s Democratic Party to spend over $1 million to advertise in favor of the measure, including local ads, campaign yard signs and mailers.

Ruben Gallego faced off in Arizona’s feisty first and only Senate debate Wednesday evening, trading shots over the border, abortion, tax policy and more. New York CNN —Melinda French Gates is shedding more light on her $1 billion plan to promote women’s rights, announcing Wednesday a new $250 million fund to improve women’s mental and physical health. The billionaire philanthropist launched “Action for Women’s Health”, a fund through her organization Pivotal Ventures. Its webpage says that “women’s health has been underfunded, overlooked, and misunderstood” and that health inequities between men and women “not only impact women’s daily lives, but they can also hurt women’s futures.”“It’s clear we need to do a better job of addressing the barriers to women’s health. “We’re seeing the devastating impacts” of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 abortion rights case, being overturned, French Gates told the publication. Harris, the Democratic nominee for US president, has been vocal about women’s reproductive rights.

The campaign push beginning Friday will take the first lady out west to Arizona and Nevada and through the “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. The Harris team is deploying the first lady to smaller, targeted markets to court undecided voters and to city suburbs as they look to mobilize women voters with less than a month until the election, the source said. Her deployments on behalf of Harris are similar to how she was utilized during her husband’s campaign and for Democrats in the 2022 midterms. The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday reinstated the state’s six-week abortion ban while it reviews an appeal from the state of a lower court ruling that had struck down the law. The state Supreme Court's decision, however, left in place the lower court’s ruling blocking a separate provision of the law that had given state prosecutors broad access to the medical records of abortion patients without due process protections. The state's near-total abortion ban, known as the LIFE Act, was signed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp in 2019 but didn’t take effect until July 2022, after it faced a legal challenge and the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. Last week, a judge in Fulton County, Georgia, struck down the state’s six-week abortion, allowing the procedure to resume and almost immediately making it legal up to 22 weeks of pregnancy.

Field recalled the ordeal in a video posted to her Instagram, saying that she got an abortion when she was 17 in Tijuana, Mexico, on the advice of a doctor, who was also a family friend. Some of the ads feature doctors speaking passionately about abortion and saying that Republican candidates shouldn't represent "us" or "our" communities in Congress. But in at least four instances, House Majority PAC, a super PAC aligned with House Democratic leadership, featured Republican-blasting doctors in their ads who did not live in the district where they were advertising. A coalition of reproductive rights organizations is unleashing a $15 million advertising campaign backing abortion rights as Arizona faces a key ballot measure on the issue this fall. The ad blitz from Arizona for Abortion Access includes broadcast, streaming, radio and mail advertisements that will blanket the state through Election Day — and as early voting kicks off in the state on Oct. 9. The group has spent about $2 million on advertising in the last two months, according to the tracking firm AdImpact. The ad is Arizona for Abortion Access’ second spot on the Arizona airwaves. CNN —All signs suggest that the partisan divide over changing gender roles in society could widen even further in the 2024 election, adding a new source of uncertainty to a contest already on a knife’s edge. That was only the latest example of his campaign signaling its support for traditional gender roles. “The messaging on gender coming out of the campaign broadly is very much about reaffirming traditional roles for women and for men,” Cassese said.
