The Indianapolis Colts are benching quarterback Anthony Richardson in favor of veteran Joe Flacco, sources told ESPN. Richardson, 22, was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Flacco, 39, has started two games for the Colts, who are 1-1 in those contests and 4-4 overall. In four appearances this season, Flacco has completed 65.7% of his passes for 716 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Despite their struggles at the quarterback position, the Colts remain in the hunt for a playoff spot in the AFC.

CNN —Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle announced his retirement from football Monday, citing concussions and other health concerns – the second college quarterback to make that decision in less than a week. Tuttle, a sixth-year senior who played for four years with the Indiana Hoosiers before transferring to Michigan ahead of the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship season, explained his decision in a post on X. Football has long had a problem with concussions and some players have pledged to donate their brains to science upon their death so the effects of repeated concussions can be studied. Tuttle, one of three starting quarterbacks that Michigan has used this year, having come in and played significant time against the University of Washington in a loss earlier this month. He started the school’s next game against the University of Illinois, which ended in a 21-7 defeat for the Wolverines.

CNN —Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering another concussion in the game against the Buffalo Bills last month. Dolphins’ star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, was very excited, saying having Tagovailoa back almost made him cry. “Just having him in the lineup, having him call the plays, having him direct the offense, just hearing his voice. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked before practice Wednesday why Tagovailoa was placed on the reserve/Injured list if the quarterback said he was symptom-free. “During this stretch where he hasn’t been on the field, he’s in a more powerful place with the team,” McDaniel said.

Since an 0-2 start Baltimore has had the best month of any team in the NFL. On Monday, they face a Tampa Bay team that has shown last season’s playoff berth was no fluke. Baltimore’s 35.5 points per game over its last three games is third-best in the NFL behind only Detroit and, yes, Tampa Bay (38.0). Henry is averaging 5.4 yards per carry on the road, where quarterback Lamar Jackson is averaging 6.2 yards, too. It sets up a strength vs. strength matchup, given the Buccaneers’ defense ranks among the league leaders in stopping the run by allowing 113 rushing yards per game.

New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman was carted off the field in Pittsburgh after what appeared to be a serious injury Sunday against the Steelers. The team said Newman would miss the rest of the game with a neck injury. Newman was hurt in the third quarter when Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was intercepted by Pittsburgh’s Beanie Bishop Jr., who returned 41 yards. When he remained down, Jets teammates surrounded him out of bounds for several minutes. The "Sunday Night Football" broadcast reported that Newman was conscious and had movement in his limbs as he was strapped to a spine board before he was carted off and taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
