Shein, the fast fashion giant with links to China, has confidentially filed for a public listing in London as it faces backlash in the U.S., a person familiar with the matter told CNBC. Elected officials in the U.S. have repeatedly expressed concerns about the use of forced labor in Shein's supply chain and its use of a U.S. tax law exemption known as de minimis. Shein would still prefer to go public in the U.S., sources previously told CNBC, and its filing in London doesn't mean that an IPO will happen there. It's unclear if Beijing has signed off on the London listing. Shein's London filing marks another twist in the company's so-far long road to a public markets debut.

My partner, Steve, and I moved to Bali two years ago, in July 2022. While living in the capital, I met Steve, who had moved over from Sydney to work in education in 2015. In Bali, we paid them in person for a few months before we finally learned how to do it online. We didn't celebrate ourselves enough for the milestones we achieved during our moveLooking back, we were too focused on getting our lives in Bali started right away. Many others I've spoken to in Bali are experiencing similar challenges of building a life and career here while transitioning from a 9-to-5 schedule.

In what may seem like a small, everyday exchange, her friend’s reaction was an important indicator for their relationship: She had responded to Caribardi’s “bid for connection,” a term coined by relationship experts at the Gottman Institute in Seattle. Whether the bid is big or small doesn’t matter — what is important is the other person’s response, Schwartz Gottman said. How to recognize a ‘bid for connection’The basis of “bids for connection” stems from the Gottmans’ “Love Lab” research, which started in 1986 and tracked couples for six years. Schwartz Gottman said this test is a good example of the importance of “turning toward” a partner, one of the three responses someone can have to a bid. Schwartz Gottman recommends communicating those feelings directly and honestly to the partner, instead of lashing out with a “turning against” response.

I'm afraid because California, where I live, is just too expensive, and I can't afford to retire here. I can't afford CaliforniaI considered staying put in Los Angeles, in the apartment I've lived in for the past 20 years. The decision was made, I then had to determine what part of the US I'm willing to move to. I like the Midwest, but after 30 years in California, I can't do long winters anymore. Two years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, unleashing a cascade of state-level abortion bans and prompting angry political backlash, Democrats are marking the anniversary by highlighting the role former President Donald J. Trump played in ending the constitutional right to an abortion. Through advertising, campaign events and news conferences, Democrats are fanning out across the country, working to remind voters that it was justices nominated by Mr. Trump who helped overturn Roe v. Wade. “Donald Trump is the sole person responsible for this nightmare,” President Biden said in a statement on Monday. “My message to Americans is this: Kamala and I are fighting like hell to get your freedom back.”The messaging push is unfolding during a tight presidential race, as Mr. Biden confronts weak approval ratings and the coalition that propelled his 2020 victory shows signs of fraying.

CNN —The Biden campaign is blasting former President Donald Trump over abortion rights in a new TV ad coinciding with the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade and days ahead of the first presidential debate. “He’s now a convicted felon,” Joshua says in the ad as an image of Trump in court flashes across the screen. States where abortion is most limited report higher rates of maternal and infant mortality, as well as greater economic insecurity. The Biden campaign and White House are also bracing for a major Supreme Court decision on emergency abortion access. While Biden prepares for the debate, his campaign is hosting more than 50 events across the country around Monday’s anniversary of the Dobbs decision.

Nearly two years ago, I huddled with some co-workers over a phone watching a video Celine Dion had shared on Instagram. “I miss you all so much.” This was Ms. Dion as we’d never seen her — fragile, tentative, worried — and all of us watching got a little emotional. This week, Ms. Dion will premiere “I Am: Celine Dion,” a documentary about her life since that diagnosis. Ms. Dion, 56, released her first album in 1981 at age 13, and she’s come to stand as one of the last pillars of a dwindling category: the pop divas. In the opera world, being labeled a diva can come with sexist overtones, a shorthand for a famous woman who makes unreasonable demands.

CNN —A woman staying at a French safari zoo was attacked by several wolves on Sunday after she entered a part of the zoo usually accessible only by car. “Luckily the medical staff intervened very quickly and we were able to save this person,” the zoo’s CEO Christelle Bercheny told a press conference. The attack took place at about 9.30 a.m. at the Thoiry zoological park in Yvelines, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Paris, French affiliate TF1 said. After staying the night at the park, the woman, 37, went out jogging and accidentally entered the safari zone, TF1 reported, adding the area was a seven-hectare space where animals, wolves and bears roam freely. The woman was treated at the nearest hospital and her condition has now “stabilized” TF1 reported.
