Setbacks in orbitSeveral more helium leaks were identified while the craft was en route to the International Space Station along with the thruster issues. That’s why Boeing and NASA teams then chose to leave the Starliner spacecraft safely docked with the space station while they worked to learn as much as possible about those issues. The first Starliner test mission took place without a crew in December 2019. That’s at the core of the mysteries Boeing and NASA are seeking to unravel during the Starliner spacecraft’s extended mission. Extended stays in spaceIt’s not uncommon for astronauts to unexpectedly extend their stay aboard the space station — for days, weeks or even months.

The good news: for the big-cap tech companies that are truly dominating the market ( Apple , Microsoft , Alphabet , Nvidia , etc.) Still no recession, in the economy or in earnings So far, we have a deceleration in big-cap tech earnings and clear signs the consumer wants lower prices. A general view of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, U.S., June 1, 2024. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Friday overturned a 40-year-old precedent that has been a target of the right because it is seen as bolstering the power of "deep state" bureaucrats. It is the latest in a series of rulings in which the conservative justices have taken aim at the power of federal agencies. The ruling was 6-3 with the conservative justices in the majority and liberal justices dissenting. The Trump administration had embraced the war on "deep state" agency power, selecting judicial nominees in part based on their hostility to the federal bureaucracy.

Asked whether Biden would exit the race, Biden campaign spokesperson Seth Schuster responded: “No.”“There’s no basis for that,” one Biden adviser also told CNN Friday morning. The Biden campaign will hold an all-staff meeting Friday afternoon, two Biden campaign officials told CNN, part of what they said is a routine pattern of Friday meetings. “It’s hard to debate a liar,” Biden told patrons at an Atlanta-area Waffle House following the debate. Big lies.”Pro-Biden political world fretsIn the broader pro-Biden and anti-Trump political universe, the panic over Biden’s debate performance was much clearer on Friday morning. The Biden administration plans to protect from deportation around 300,000 Haitians and allow them to work in the country, according to three people with knowledge of the matter, the latest move to shield immigrants from returning to countries in dire conditions. The administration’s plan would make Haitians who arrived after November 2022 and before early June eligible for temporary protected status, the three people said on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. It comes amid a flurry of recent immigration actions by President Biden. Mr. Biden has shifted toward a more restrictive stance at the southern border, which some see as an attempt to bolster his re-election chances. The Biden administration has used temporary protected status over the past few years to protect hundreds of thousands of migrants, including from countries like Venezuela, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Haiti.

CNN —Covid-19 levels have been rising in the United States for weeks as new variants drive what’s become an annual summer surge. That’s enough time to offer protection during the winter respiratory virus season but probably after this summer’s wave has ebbed. On Thursday, the CDC recommended that everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated Covid-19 vaccine for the 2024-25 season. Unlike flu and RSV, Covid-19 is constantly circulating; it doesn’t offer a reprieve. The changes are meant to “simplify RSV vaccine decision-making for clinicians and the public,” the agency said.

My autistic son is almost 6 years old, which I thought would mean he would finally have more options for summer camp. The one local program that exists doesn't offer toileting assistance, which he requires. There's no summer camp for himI understand that having one-on-one support for a summer camp is a lot to ask, but there aren't any alternatives to the standard local offerings. AdvertisementESY isn't the same thing as summer camp, though. If the short incremental approach could be used in a movement or music summer program, he would do well.

The tabletop simulation presented a hypothetical scenario in which cities like Dallas, Washington, DC, and Madrid were at risk of a large asteroid impact. "A large asteroid impact is potentially the only natural disaster humanity has the technology to predict years in advance and take action to prevent," Lindley Johnson, a NASA planetary defense officer emeritus, said in a press release. That's because they didn't think Congress would approve funding for a critical space mission to study the asteroid "unless impact became certain," NASA's summary said. Options for preventing an asteroid impact include shooting the asteroid with lasers, launching a nuclear bomb at it, or simply smacking a space probe into it to nudge it away from Earth. Participants weren't sure Congress would fund the mission unless the asteroid was a certain threat — not a 72% chance of threat.

CNN —The Supreme Court on Friday significantly weakened the power of federal agencies to approve regulations in a major decision that could have sweeping implications for the environment, public health and the workplace. But the decision will net a far wider swath of federal regulations affecting many facets of American life. The decision overturns the Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council precedent that required courts to give deference to federal agencies when creating regulations based on an ambiguous law. The justices have been incrementally diminishing federal power for years, but the new case gave the court an opportunity to take a much broader stride. The Supreme Court had been trending in that direction for years, knocking back attempts by federal agencies in other contexts to approve regulations on their own.

“Hard to watch” is how multiple foreign diplomats described Thursday night’s debate between Biden and Trump to CNN. I had difficulties understanding what he was saying, and I understand English pretty well,” said a second European diplomat. Biden’s debate flop was front-page news across Europe, with left- and right-leaning newspapers excoriating the president – even in France, where the country has its own elections coming up this weekend. “There are many options that are discussed, but we don’t see, any that are self-evident,” the first European diplomat said. Moscow’s state TV station, Russia 1, lampooned Biden’s debate performance.

Climate advocates and business groups are closely watching the US Supreme Court this week. The court could issue a ruling that sharply curtails the federal government's power to regulate the environment, including President Joe Biden's climate policies. Legal experts say the Supreme Court, with its conservative majority, is likely to overturn or significantly limit the Chevron doctrine. Meanwhile, he added, administrative lawyers have been preparing for this very scenario at the Supreme Court. Biden's EPA hasn't relied on the Chevron doctrine to defend its climate rules.

On average, Americans pay 2 to 3 times more for prescription drugs than consumers in other developed countries, according to the White House. Put another way, this isn’t going to be an “abortion” election or an “economy” election: 2024 is going to be the mom election. That decline is largely attributed to one key cost: child care. Both have since lapsed, leaving many families to teeter on (or fall off) a “child care cliff.”In 2024, the cost of child care — the cost of motherhood — has become untenable. They don’t see “motherhood issues,” such as child care and paid leave, as substantive, economic issues worth fighting for. For decades, moms have been divided — working moms versus stay-at-home-moms, single moms versus coupled moms, Moms for Liberty versus Moms Demand Action.
