London — An Australian computer scientist who claims he invented bitcoin is not “Satoshi Nakamoto,” the pseudonymous inventor of the cryptocurrency, a judge at London’s High Court ruled on Thursday. Craig Wright has long claimed to have been the author of a 2008 white paper, the foundational text of bitcoin, published under the pseudonym. The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) took Wright to court to stop him suing bitcoin developers, asking for a ruling that Wright was not Satoshi. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "The Fault in Our Stars," "New Moon" — none are safe from copyright infringement by leading artificial intelligence models, according to research released Wednesday by Patronus AI. The company, founded by ex-Meta researchers, specializes in evaluation and testing for large language models — the technology behind generative AI products. Alongside the release of its new tool, CopyrightCatcher, Patronus AI released results of an adversarial test meant to showcase how often four leading AI models respond to user queries using copyrighted text. The four models it tested were OpenAI's GPT-4, Anthropic's Claude 2, Meta's Llama 2 and Mistral AI's Mixtral. Patronus only tested the models using books under copyright protection in the U.S., choosing popular titles from cataloging website Goodreads.

New York CNN —Starbucks has opened its first cafe designed to give customers with disabilities a “more accessible store experience,” the company announced Friday in a news release. The move is part of a wider inclusivity initiative that Starbucks has undertaken to design easily navigable retail spaces for all of its customers. Any cafe that is renovated or opened in the future will begin implementing the company’s “Inclusive Spaces Framework,” it said in the release. The store design will also take acoustics into account by using materials that minimize background noise or echoes, which could disrupt people who use hearing aids. The company told CNBC exclusively that its new advanced AI model, Decision Intelligence Pro, will allow banks to better assess suspicious transactions on its network in real-time and determine whether they're legitimate or not. Ajay Bhalla, Mastercard's president of cyber and intelligence business unit, told CNBC that the new AI solution is a proprietary recurrent neural network — a core part of generative AI — from Mastercard built from scratch by the company's cybersecurity and anti-fraud teams. "We are using the transformer models which basically help get the power of generative AI," Bhalla told CNBC in an exclusive interview earlier this week. Mastercard's proprietary algorithm is trained on data from the roughly 125 billion transactions that go through the company's card network annually.
