Bank of Japan board members are split over the future path of interest rates, minutes of the central bank's monetary policy meeting in July showed. The board also pointed out that import prices had turned positive again, and upside risks to prices required attention. Some board members pointed out that "it was appropriate for the Bank to make moderate adjustments" given such risks. Another member pointed out that medium-to long-term inflation expectations were not anchored at 2%, and prices remained vulnerable to downside risks. As such, the BOJ should avoid a situation where the market expectations for future rate hikes "increase excessively."

Meanwhile, multiple Facebook users in states like North Carolina, Mississippi and New Jersey continue to share the ballot misinformation without any notification that it's false. Across the U.S., with 40 days until the Nov. 5 election, state and local officials say they are puzzled by what to expect from Facebook. In 2020, the site hosted rampant misinformation about politically charged issues like Covid treatments, masking and voter fraud. Given Maricopa County's high profile during the election season, the state often attracts attention from Facebook users across the country. During a Senate hearing last week on election threats, Meta's head of global affairs, Nick Clegg, fielded questions about the company's election preparedness.

Paris CNN —On the second day of Paris Fashion Week at the city’s Palais de Tokyo, a giant inflatable elephant welcomed guests to the Ester Manas fashion show. Methods such as ruching and drawstrings eliminate the need for classical sizing and enable Ester Manas to cater to sizes XS to 3XL. Similarly, a 2023 size inclusivity report conducted by Vogue Business found that 95.6% of all looks presented for Fall-Winter 2023 were in a size US 0-4. “Numerically, it is very apparent that this ‘trend’ (of both being personally comfortable with your size and size inclusivity being socially accepted) has retreated,” Delepierre said. “Beyond the size dimension, (Ester Manas clothes) are strong pieces that stand on their own and make everyone feel sexy,” he said.

The air war is attempting to destroy Hezbollah's long-range missile arsenal, their most threatening weapons for Israelis which Iran provided as a last-resort threat to safeguard its nuclear program. That is one reason it proved reluctant to risk an all-out war between Hezbollah and Israel. Still, it's possible that the destruction of its Hezbollah missile deterrent will convince Iranian officials to build nuclear weapons faster as the ultimate deterrent. After two years of the double pain of inflation and high interest rates, those things are normalizing. Sure, jobs were plentiful and the economy was growing, but the combination of high prices and high interest rates felt demoralizing. It’s hard to overstate how much interest rates can change the economic mood, Brendan Duke, a senior director for economic policy at the Center for American Progress, told me. And while both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have proposed ways to increase the housing supply, the process will take years. “There are economic trends like falling interest rates, and there are policies like making an investment in housing supply that can move the needle,” Duke says.

Both regular and enhanced seats will be available for selection at booking, starting in 2025 for flights in early 2026, Southwest said. Southwest AirlinesSouthwest has already announced an improved cabin with tablet holders, charging ports, upgraded overhead bins, and better WiFi. The cabin improvements come as Southwest plans to cut some short-haul flying in favor of more lucrative long-haul operations. Southwest left four airports altogether in August: Bellingham International Airport in Washington, Mexico's Cozumel International Airport, Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and Syracuse Hancock International Airport in New York. This means Icelandair passengers can connect in the US on Southwest flights, and vice versa.

Love it, hate it or wished it stayed under wraps, the secret on coffee badging is out, and not everyone is a fan. Some have faced repercussions: 70% of workers said they've been caught coffee badging by their bosses, and 16% are now required to be in the office for the full day. "There shouldn't be a negative connotation to coffee badging," says Frank Weishaupt, CEO of Owl Labs, who says he does it too. Being strategic about in-office time means "you're meeting with your colleagues, you're mentoring employees, you're being mentored or you're doing other collaboration activities," he says. Coffee badging, on the other hand, can boost productivity, he says, by inspiring teams to audit their calendars and be intentional about their in-person collaboration versus independent work time.

In a court hearing on Tuesday, a Texas bankruptcy judge announced that he will approve the auctioning off of Infowars' parent company, Free Speech Systems, which Jones fully owns, according to The Associated Press. The auction is a result of Jones agreeing in June to liquidate his assets after both he and Free Speech Systems filed separately for bankruptcy in 2022. Advertisement"It's very cut and dry that the assets of Free Speech Systems, the website, the equipment, the shopping cart, all that, can be sold," Jones said. The bankruptcy trustee overseeing Jones' assets said in court this week that some potential buyers have already expressed interest in getting a piece of Free Speech Systems, NPR reported.

A version of this article first appeared in the CNBC Sport newsletter with Alex Sherman, which brings you the biggest news and exclusive interviews from the worlds of sports business and media. Sources tell me the opt-out also affects "Sunday Ticket," the league's out-of-market package for which Alphabet's YouTube paid about $2 billion. That means that after the 2029 Super Bowl, the NFL has the right to completely rejigger the media landscape, if it so chooses. Five years is a lifetime in the media industry given the rapid pace of change. I don't think it's hyperbole to say 2029 could be the end of the modern media era.

AdvertisementLorraine Tan, Morningstar's director of equity research for Asia, also thinks monetary stimulus won't be sufficient. History says their skepticism is warranted, as China's past stimulus efforts have often failed to lead to sustainable gains. Even if this surge holds up, it won't necessarily spark a self-fulfilling prophecy that provides a lasting boost for China's economy.
