Now, a new study, building upon previous evidence, has found that among teens, vaping often may spike the risk of exposure to lead and uranium — potentially harming brain and organ development in young people. However, chronic exposure to metals, “even at low levels, can lead to detrimental health impacts, affecting cardiovascular, renal, cognitive and psychiatric functions,” she added. The study was conducted at one point in time, so the authors couldn’t control for chronic or long-term exposure. The authors acknowledged that their study is observational, meaning it didn’t find a causal relationship between vaping and toxic metal levels. But knowing why this preference led to higher uranium exposure requires more research.

At least one tornado struck parts of Nebraska on Friday afternoon, leading to the collapse of an industrial building, injuring at least three people and prompting a widespread emergency response, officials said, a day after tornadoes battered other parts of the Midwest. The Weather Service issued tornado warnings for much of Omaha, including the downtown area. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to the industrial building at Garner Industries around 3 p.m. and found it “pretty much totally collapsed” with several people trapped inside, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said. Three people were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said, adding that roughly 70 people were inside when the tornado struck. In Las Vegas, calls to 911 on landline phones and mobile phones were not connecting for about two hours before service was restored at about 9 p.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said on social media. CNN —The US Food and Drug Administration is warning that dangerous counterfeit versions of Botox have been identified in multiple states, putting the safety of consumers at risk. The incidents of counterfeit Botox being administered to consumers appear to be connected to products that have been purchased from unlicensed sources and then administered by either unlicensed or licensed providers. The counterfeit Botox products may be identified by the lot number C3709C3 found on the outer carton and vial, the FDA said. Counterfeit botox has been found in several states. Most often, when counterfeit Botox is sold, “the injector knows they’re purchasing something counterfeit,” Sung said.

It comes at a time when women's sports generally — from basketball to soccer and even volleyball — are attracting new viewers. Last week's college women's basketball championship game between the Hawkeyes and the South Carolina Gamecocks, meanwhile, snagged more viewers than any basketball — women or men, college or pro — since 2019, ESPN said. It's not just women's college ball that's luring eyeballs. Attendance at US women's pro soccer games increased by 23% in 2023, according to National World Soccer League commissioner Jessica Berman. And that's just the start, according to hedge fund mogul Marc Larsry, who recently declared women's sports the next "big opportunity" for sports investing.

As things stand now, 48 states are set to allocate their electors this November according to the winner of the popular vote in their state. There, electoral votes are partially divvied up on a proportional basis. In Maine, two of the state’s four electoral votes go to the winner of the popular vote, while the other two are split between its two congressional districts. Biden won that election with 306 electoral votes; the Nebraska elector did not make a difference. Which is why Nebraska Republicans have launched an effort, backed by Trump, to end its quasi-proportional allocation of electoral votes.
