Oil and natural gas prices traveled divergent paths this week, resulting in a mixed picture for the Club stocks Coterra Energy (CTRA) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). In Thursday's session alone, natural gas prices jumped nearly 7%, as traders reacted to U.S. government data that showed a smaller-than-expected storage build. For the week, through Thursday's settle, natural gas has climbed 8.1%, building on last week's 11% advance. Natural gas on Friday morning jumped another 1.5%. Coterra's revenues are roughly a 50-50 split between oil and natural gas.

For the first time, scientists were able to show they can bend lightning from a storm with a laser. The project, 20 years in the making, required a super powerful laser to be shot into the sky. A powerful laser was able to deflect a lightning bolt almost 200 feet before it hit a lightning rod, greatly improving the rod's function. The Laser Lightning Rod is seen in place on top of a Swiss mountain. After the September meeting pause last week, the target range for the fed funds rate remained at 5.25% to 5.50%. First, I don't know a soul besides me who agrees with that 20-year versus fed funds rate yield prognosis. They think the fed funds rate will come down or the 20-year yield is already extended. Second, I don't know anyone else who believes the economy is so strong that the Fed is correct to keep on an anti-inflation course. I don't think so.

June 22 (Reuters) - Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry missed out on an Ashes test century by one run on a rain-hit first day of the one-off match against England as the visitors reached 328-7 at stumps at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Thursday. Australia opted to bat after winning the toss but their openers Beth Moooney and Phoebe Litchfield could not convert their starts before Perry came to the crease. She built a valuable 119-run stand with Tahlia McGrath before spinner Sophie Ecclestone beat McGrath's defence to bowl her for 61. The test is the curtain-raiser of the multi-format series, with three Twenty20s and three one-day internationals to follow, as England bid to regain the Ashes from Australia after going winless in the 2021-22 campaign. Year-old AI voice startup ElevenLabs has raised $19 million in early-stage funding, as venture capital investors rush to back firms in generative AI. Cofounder and CEO Mati Staniszewski previously told Insider that the startup saw huge potential in the publishing and audiobooks sector.
