JPMorgan has unveiled its top picks for December, as traders try to wrap up a tumultuous year on a strong note. JPMorgan's price target of $26 per share implies an upside of 12.9% from Friday's close. "The stock offers good value in the already discounted strip center sector, and we see its self-funded redevelopment program as driving NAV/FFO growth over time," said Nicholas Rosato, JPMorgan's head of North America equity research. "We like GWRE for its scale, focus on large Tier carriers, visible cloud market share gains and high liquidity of shares," Rosato said. Dollar Tree , TransUnion and Mirati Therapeutics remained among JPMorgan's top picks, along with Amazon, Public Storage, S & P Global and Allstate.

Barclays sees a challenging near-term ahead for Blackstone after the investment firm on Thursday limited withdrawals from its large retail real estate fund. The bank downgraded shares of Blackstone to equal weight from overweight and cut its price target to $90 from $98. "In November, BREIT repurchased ~$1.3B of shares, representing ~43% of of redemption requests in the month, indicating just over $3B of total redemption requests in November, nearly doubling month over month," said Budish. While offshore investors represent about 20% of the fund, they make up roughly 70% of withdrawals this year. Despite the near-term pressures on the fund, Barclays is still optimistic on the longer-term retail opportunity for alternative assets and sees Blackstone as a well-positioned beneficiary.

There may be some pain ahead for mutual fund investors in the form of capital gains taxes. "That means funds that have suffered steep falls this year could still distribute capital gains to investors," Welch said. John Hancock will pay double-digit capital gains distributions on several of its funds. Almost a dozen Nuveen funds will make 5% to 10% capital gains distributions, while twice that number of T.
