LONDON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Roger Federer's trophy-laden career ended with defeat on Friday, but for once the result hardly mattered as the Swiss maestro headed into retirement with tears in his eyes and cheers ringing in his ears. Federer produced moments of his trademark magic during a fiercely contested duel and kept his emotions in check. But the tears flowed afterwards as Ellie Goulding sung while a montage of Federer's feats was projected on the black court. During changeovers video screens showed iconic moments of Federer's career with tributes from Nadal and his mother. American duo Sock and Tiafoe, pantomime villains for the night, tested Federer's reactions with some lusty blows aimed at the Swiss maestro.

(CNN) Saying goodbye is never easy, but the Goldberg family is doing the best they can in the new season of "The Goldbergs." The show wasted no time addressing the exit of Jeff Garlin from the sitcom, mentioning in the opening moments of Wednesday's season premiere that patriarch Murray had passed away "just a few months ago" and went on to show the family still processing their grief. Adam and Barry worked through some of their feelings in a "Field of Dreams"-inspired plot. The process forces Beverly to confront Murray's absence and her inability to go through some of his remaining belongings. She ultimately decides it's time to do so, clearing a closet full of his clothes and getting rid of his old chair.

Las Vegas police said Monday they are investigating a fan's contact with the quarterback of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals immediately after the team's win Sunday. Video shows someone in the stands at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium reaching over fans at the end zone barrier and making contact with the face of the Cardinals' Kyler Murray with an open hand. Murray had just skipped past the end zone and toward the stands to celebrate his team's walk-off win with back-pats and high-fives. Murray's representative, the Cardinals and the team's opponent and host Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Arizona defeated Las Vegas 29-23 when cornerback Bryon Murphy Jr. recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in overtime.
