CNN —Heavy rain caused flooding and landslides on Tuesday in western Rwanda killing at least 109 people in the Western and Northern Provinces, according to state media Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA.) CNN —The Mexican navy has seized almost 10 tons of liquid methamphetamine hidden in 11,520 bottles of tequila intended for export, it said in a statement on Monday. Already this year, the navy has seized and destroyed approximately 114 tons of meth, its statement noted. It is not the first time that authorities have seized meth hidden in creative ways. Australian border officials found $1 million worth of liquid meth inside snow globes in 2019. Meanwhile, US border officials found about $266,000 worth of liquid meth inside the gas tank of a truck in 2020.

CNN —Six Leopard 2 tanks bound for Ukraine have left the Spanish port city of Santander in northern Spain and are en route to their destination, the Spanish Minister of Defense Margarita Robles said Saturday. Robles told journalists the tanks left Santander “along with 20 heavy transport vehicles” and the trip by sea would take from five to six days. Ukraine has been reliant on outdated Soviet-era tanks throughout the Russian invasion and has appealed to the West for modern battle tanks to bolster Kyiv’s forces. In recent months, the US, along with countries such as Poland, Finland and the UK – pledged to send tanks to Ukraine. Following international pressure, Germany announced a major decision in January that it would send Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv’s troops – raising anger from Kremlin officials who sought to cast the move as an act of aggression against Russia.

The GOP’s plan for a one-year debt limit increase, said McCarthy, would roll back domestic, non-defense spending to 2022 levels. Tony Danker is leaving the Confederation of British Industry with immediate effect, the group said in a statement Tuesday. The CBI did not specify what wrongdoing it had found but stressed that Danker was “not the subject of any of the more recent allegations” of misconduct at the organization. Danker will be replaced by Rain Newton-Smith, the former chief economist of the CBI. Its director-generals and the organization have frequently weighed in on political and economic issues, from Brexit to the UK investment outlook.

The 82-year old former footballer, who is one of the greatest players of all time, was admitted to a hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday to re-evaluate his cancer treatment after Pelé had a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021. Pelé took to Instagram Thursday to thank fans for the positive messages and “good vibes” he had received.
