Stacy Spikes told Insider he plans to put MoviePass out of beta and make it available for all by the summer. You would think Spikes would want to run as far away as possible from the movie-ticket-subscription startup. Before Stacy Spikes created MoviePass he created the Urbanworld Film Festival. I wanted to put that down because I see so many times people approach me and think MoviePass was my first business. In early 2018, female Nike employees were fed up with the company's response to claims of sexual harassment and gender discrimination, so they anonymously surveyed each other about their experiences at the company. A third wrote that she caught a male executive receiving oral sex from a lower-ranking female in the campus gym. But four former Nike employees familiar with the collection of the surveys told Insider closer to 100 were collected. "Maybe if you dressed nicer I would be on time," one female Nike worker said she was told by a male Nike executive. "Kept it to myself because of who he is at the company," wrote the person who was told to "show some skin."
LONDON, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Britain's opposition Labour Party retained a parliamentary seat in the northwest of England on Friday, comfortably winning the vote in the first electoral test for Rishi Sunak as prime minister. Labour candidate Samantha Dixon won the City of Chester constituency, securing 61% of the vote, compared to 22% for the candidate from Sunak's Conservatives. The next national election is expected in 2024. Curtice said the scale of the swing could indicate Labour winning an outright majority in parliament at the next national election, but noted that local elections were rarely a good guide. Labour have held the Chester seat since 2015, when it was the most marginal seat in the country.
As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said herself, quoting scripture on the House floor Thursday: “For everything there is a season — a time for every purpose under heaven.”For Pelosi, the season to be leader of House Democrats has passed. She’ll continue to represent San Francisco while serving as an invaluable source of guidance and resolve for the next generation of House Democratic leaders. At 82, Pelosi is a historic figure, of course: the first female House speaker and one of the strongest speakers, if not the strongest, that America has ever seen. Yet as a minority in a GOP-run House, Democrats won’t be able to rack up accomplishments like they did in the last two years. There were calls for Pelosi to step aside in 2010 when Democrats lost 60 House seats — a true wipeout.
Those reliability concerns stem from higher peak demand projections, generator retirements, generator vulnerability to extreme weather and fuel supply and natural gas infrastructure limitations, the North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC) said on a webcast of its 2022-2023 Winter Reliability Assessment. NERC said that the lack of interconnections with other regions limited Texas' ability to import power from other regions if problems arise. "Energy emergencies are likely in extreme conditions," NERC said about MISO, noting wind generator performance would be a key factory this winter. In New England, NERC warned that the amount of oil stored at power generators was just about 40% of capacity. "We encourage generators to fill up those tanks," Mark Olson, manager for reliability assessments at NERC, said on the webcast.

Since 1964, when New Hampshire became the first to offer a state lottery, 44 states have started their own or joined multi-state jackpots. More than 200,000 retail stores and other outlets in the United States sell lottery tickets. That’s because when one state adds a lottery, people often flood across state lines to buy tickets. Recently, states that have adopted lotteries have emphasized that sales from tickets will go to social programs. The people likeliest to buy tickets are often the same ones who most rely on these government programs, he said.
Utah GOP Sen. Mike Lee is running for a 3rd term against independent candidate Evan McMullin. Former MoviePass executives face fraud charges

The men each face one count of securities fraud and three counts of wire fraud with a maximum of 20 years in prison. Farnsworth had a first appearance in DC District Court Friday after he voluntarily turned himself in. But MoviePass’ business model was at best unsustainable — and at worst nonexistent. Spikes helped found MoviePass before being pushed out in 2018 after selling the company to HMNY. Details remain scarce, but the company says the new MoviePass will have three pricing tiers that will cost $10, $20 or $30, depending on the market.
MoviePass, a Netflix-like subscription service for movie theaters, made a splash in 2017 when it made its debut. Former executives at MoviePass and its prior parent company were charged in a securities fraud case, accused of defrauding investors, the Justice Department said Friday. Former MoviePass CEO J. Mitchell Lowe and Theodore Farnsworth , who led Helios & Matheson Analytics Inc., the movie-subscription company’s parent at the time, are accused of engaging in a fraudulent scheme to inflate the company’s stock and attract new shareholders, the Justice Department said.
The current annuity prize is beating the record set in January 2016 when three winners split a prize advertised at $1.586 billion. Each took their share of the cash value, which added up to $983.5 million, $200 million more than cash prize in Saturday’s “record” drawing. That advertised then-record annuity prize was 61% greater than the cash prize. This time, the estimated annuity prize is 104% greater than the cash prize. If it was the same ratio as in 2016, Saturday’s annuity prize would be only $1.26 billion.
Former executives at MoviePass and its parent company have been charged with fraud, according to a federal indictment that was unsealed Friday. MoviePass skyrocketed to popularity in 2017 because of its seemingly too-good-to-be-true unlimited movie pass that initially offered customers one movie voucher per day for $30 to $40 a month. However, many MoviePass subscribers began to use the service too frequently and the company started to lose money quickly. According to the DOJ document, the pair also allegedly knew that the price of MoviePass' unlimited plan would not be enough to offset losses. Instead, the pair had directed employees to implement tactics to prevent subscribers from using their unlimited service, according to prosecutors.
This weekend's $1.6 billion Powerball prize is the largest lottery jackpot in US history. The Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes are a key reason the headline prize is so high. In comparison, the lump sum prize for Saturday's lottery would only be approximately 49% of the $1.6 billion. So in some ways, the Fed is one reason Saturday's headline Powerball jackpot is the highest ever. This week, it surpassed the $1.54 billion Mega Millions jackpot in 2018 and the $1.59 billion Powerball jackpot in 2016.
It's the fifth time a U.S. lottery prize has reached 10 digits since 2016, when the first billion-dollar prize jackpot was announced. Make that lottery harder to win and you can almost guarantee higher jackpots on a regular basis, incentivizing even more people to buy lottery tickets. Powerball's organizers have gradually made their lottery harder to win for decades, says Victor Matheson, an economics professor at the College of the Holy Cross who studies lotteries. Before then, your odds of winning a Powerball lottery were around 1 in 175 million, Matheson says. "They've been running Powerball or its predecessor for [34 years], and they've gradually been making it harder and harder to win," Matheson tells CNBC Make It.

The SEC is suing former MoviePass executives Mitch Lowe and Ted Farnsworth. The suit claims they made "false and misleading statements" about the company being profitable. In a complaint filed late Monday, reviewed by Insider, it claims that the duo made "false or misleading statements" in financial filings and in the press. Itum is accused of submitting false invoices and receiving more than $310,000 from both MoviePass and HMNY. Last June, Farnsworth and Lowe settled with the FTC and reached a $400,000 settlement with the California district attorneys.

According to financial advisors, your money will lose value over time due to inflation by doing this. Setting financial goals, saving for retirement, and learning more about basic investing can help.
