BookTok can't get enough of Sarah J. Maas' fantasy series, especially "A Court of Thorns and Roses." Here's the reading order I'd recommend as an avid fan of Maas' books. However, I don't think reading the "Throne of Glass" books in the order they were published offers the best narrative experience. New York CNN —“Madame Web” swung to No. In November, “The Marvels” saw a lackluster $47 million in domestic sales its opening weekend, and DC’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” opened in December to a feeble $27.6 million. It’s still too soon to estimate gross domestic sales for “Madame Web,” but, by the time it exited theaters, “Morbius” had made just $73 million. But “Madame Web,” which released February 14, struggled to gain upward momentum even along its six-day opening, which straddled two holidays: Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day. Recent months have seen musical box office hits like “Wonka,” “Mean Girls,” and successful concert films from both Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

There, he learned that his lawyer's motion to set aside his verdict had been received by the judge. The so-called "330.30 motion" was not immediately provided to the public. "So Mr. Majors we're going to be adjourning your case for sentencing," the judge said, turning to face Majors on the screen. First, a verdict can be set aside if the defense uncovers anything already in the case record that would reverse or modify the verdict on appeal.

While 2024 and 2025 boast franchise-rich movie slates, Wall Street doesn't expect ticket sales to top $10 billion domestically until 2026. The domestic box office has not hit that benchmark since 2019 before the Covid pandemic. When the box office does again surpass that threshold, Disney could be the driving force. After all, the first Avatar generated nearly $800 million at the domestic box office after its release in 2009. Therefore, where industry experts see gaps between major tent poles, there could be smaller-budgeted films that add incremental value to the overall box office.

Opinion | ‘Barbie’ Is Bad. There, I Said It.

Critically and commercially, several movies did well, and only one of those successes took place within the Marvel cinematic universe. Is it safe now to call “Barbie” the outlier? After “Barbie” so buoyantly lifted box office figures, it also felt like a willful dismissal of the need to make Hollywood solvent after a season of hell. Disliking “Barbie” meant either dismissing the power of The Patriarchy or dismissing Modern Feminism. They despised its commercialism and dreaded the prospect of future films about Mattel properties like Barney and American Girl dolls.

The case for yes, at the movies anyway, might cite the top box-office performer this year: “Barbie,” which wasn’t a remake or a sequel or an adaptation of a comic book. Hollywood box office sales slump in November
  + stars: | 2023-12-02 | by ( Eva Rothenberg | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
CNN —Movie theaters slumped into a “Slow-vember,” say industry analysts, as several of the season’s most anticipated movies drew underwhelming box office sales last month. Domestic theaters grossed about $553.6 million this November, a 12% decline from last year and still more than $400 million short of pre-pandemic levels, according to data from research firm Comscore. Between 2009 and 2019, Novembers were a reliably lucrative month and could be counted on to rake in nearly a billion dollars, owing in part to the long Thanksgiving weekend. It was also surpassed by “The Hunger Games,” which was the top movie over Thanksgiving weekend, grossing $42 million. December could see a similar slump, according to Robbins, given the “Ghostbusters” sequel has been delayed until next year and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will likely not live up to the first movie’s box office revenue.

of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger speak during the New York Times annual DealBook summit on November 29, 2023 in New York City. One year after returning to the helm of Disney , Bob Iger said Wednesday his top priority at the company is revitalizing its film studio after a string of box office disappointments including "The Marvels" and "Wish." "The experience of accessing [the films] and watching them in the home is better than it ever was," he told Andrew Ross Sorkin at The New York Times' DealBook Summit. In increasing its output to feed Disney+, Iger said the company "diluted" its quality, particularly when it came to its Marvel Cinematic Universe features. Iger returned as CEO a year ago as the board fired Chapek.

“Quality needs attention to deliver quality, it doesn’t happen by accident,” Iger said. Iger, speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin at The New York Times’ annual DealBook summit, acknowledged that Disney had “diluted” the caliber of films produced by Marvel. The company, he added, had “made too many” film sequels that had not been well received by audiences or critics. Francis deSouza, the former CEO of Illumina — a biotech company — said he would not seek re-election to the board. In a statement, Mark Parker, the chairman of Disney’s board, praised Gorman’s succession planning abilities at Morgan Stanley.

Prior to that film, Waititi was known for co-writing, co-directing and acting in 2014’s “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” in 2016. “Ragnarok” ended up being one of the most popular films in the cinematic “Thor” franchise and earned over $800 million at the worldwide box office. There are four total films in the “Thor” franchise, led by Chris Hemsworth. The debut movie premiered in 2011 and was followed by three sequels: “Thor: Dark World” in 2013, “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017 and 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” for which Waititi returned as director. Outside of his work with Marvel, Waititi is best known for starring in and directing 2020’s “Jojo Rabbit,” which earned him an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.

It's rare for Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger to acknowledge his company has had creative missteps. At the time, Disney's animation and live-action studio divisions had struggled with a string of failed movies, including including "The Alamo," and "Home on the Range" and "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." He also acquired Pixar, giving Disney an immediate infusion of quality movies and a brand of storytelling that rubbed off on Disney's traditional animation studio. In 2006, acquiring Pixar quickly improved Disney's film quality and box office results. Iger noted the Disney animation studio's next release, "Wish," which stars Ariana DeBose and debuts in theaters on Wednesday, could begin a run of sustainable hits for Disney.
