However, given that September has historically been the worst month of the year for the market, we're layering in some technical analysis to identify some buy levels. We published our prior buy levels analysis on June 26. Clearly, we should have been a bit more conservative in our buy levels, however, in our defense shares only traded below $162 for two days. However, we must be mindful that a move there would once again mean we've broken below the 200-day moving average. Below that and we're looking for the 200-day moving average to hold at around $89 apiece.

I’m 36 — when do I have to give up crop tops?
  + stars: | 2024-09-01 | by ( Jacqui Palumbo | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
CNN —As a pre-teen in Y2K, the (small) shadows of crop tops loomed large. In a decade when unforgiving low-rise jeans were the norm — and criticism over women’s bodies perfunctory — crop tops were not casual, easy wear; any softness of the torso was considered an aberration. Now that I’m 36, crop tops have become an unlikely staple in my wardrobe, and I’m reluctant to let them go. Can I still wear crop tops in my forties? I can also keep wearing crop tops for as long as I feel like it — after all, whenever I see a woman a generation ahead of me owning her personal style and at ease with herself, it gives me something to aspire to.

While expectations are high and caution is certainly warranted, we don't think it's quite that simple. While the Oscillator and Williams' work do point to possible selling pressure ahead, we don't want to get too bearish. However, we don't think the risks are so elevated as to warrant more than a small cash raise. We still view Nvidia as an "own it, don't trade it" stock, but we also don't keep our heads in the sand. Much of that is by design, reinforced by the National Association of Realtors, a mega trade group with monopoly-like control over US real estate. Sellers, who historically have paid both the listing agent and the buyer’s Realtor, will be on the hook for their agent’s fee. While NAR has long stated that the 5% to 6% fee was always negotiable, in practice, that’s just not happening. One recent national study found that “buyer agents do in fact steer clients away from properties that offer low buyer agent commissions,” and that those properties take longer to sell, if they sell at all. The changes to the commission model upend decades of legal and political wrangling to maintain Realtors power in American real estate.

That’s why, he said, he invested in AppHarvest, a startup that promised a high-tech future for farming and for the workers of Eastern Kentucky. Despite promising local jobs, the company eventually began contracting migrant workers from Mexico, Guatemala and other countries, numerous former employees told CNN. After about a week on the job, Vance took a meeting with AppHarvest founder Jonathan Webb, as Webb later recounted in a Fox News podcast interview. The company’s health care benefits attracted Morgan, a single father, who told CNN he took a pay cut to join the startup. Such comments ring hollow to some former AppHarvest workers, who argue Vance’s rhetoric as a candidate for vice president doesn’t align with the reality they experienced.

In today's big story, we're looking at how the startup landscape is drastically changing thanks to the entrance of private-equity firms and the rise of acquihires . Private equity is filling the gap left by a frozen IPO market and corporates unwilling or unable to cut deals, writes Business Insider's Melia Russell. Perhaps most importantly, a PE deal means equity holders get cash immediately, unlike an IPO that has some holding periods. Acquihires where the brains behind buzzy AI startups sell themselves (instead of the entire company) to bigger players are in vogue, writes BI's Ben Bergman and Sri Muppidi. Depreciation costs could lead to AI stock price declines and valuation scrutiny, according to Baird's Ted Mortonson. AdvertisementThe lurking problem is that the useful lifetime of AI GPU chips can be a lot shorter than many expect, especially as AI chips go through an ever-accelerating innovation cycle, leading to higher-than-expected depreciation expenses that ultimately drag down profits. For example, the bank expects Alphabet to record $28 billion in depreciation costs in 2026, which is 24% more than current consensus estimates of $22.6 billion. AdvertisementBut even that has its limits because of how quickly Nvidia is releasing new GPU chips. And for Mortonson, it all comes back to the return on invested AI capital.

CNN —One of China’s Long March 6A rockets has broken apart in low-Earth orbit and created a debris cloud consisting of hundreds of pieces, according to multiple space debris-tracking entities. And the reason for the rocket breakup remains unknown. Everything in low-Earth orbit travels at 17,500 miles per hour, Crassidis said. It’s the second time one of these rocket bodies has experienced a significant breakup event in low-Earth orbit, according to Victoria Heath, associate director of marketing and communications for LeoLabs. “Events like this highlight the importance of adherence to existing space debris mitigation guidelines to reduce the creation of new space debris and underscore the need for robust space domain awareness capabilities to rapidly detect, track, and catalog newly-launched space objects so they can be screened for potential conjunctions.”
