Many executives say playing golf benefits their careers, but only about a quarter of golfers are women. Female executives face all sorts of barriers when it comes to using one of the great networking tools for business: golf. That’s according to a new study, identifying some of the benefits female executives derive from playing golf, as well as the reasons more female executives don’t golf. The study’s authors conducted a content analysis, reviewing almost 100 articles from academic journals, trade publications, general-interest publications and golf associations.
Most calories burned during a round of golf come from walking, whether you carry your bag or not. Carrying a bag of golf clubs over 18 holes of golf may sound like grueling exercise, but it may not be as good of a workout as many golfers might think. That’s according to a new study that found that the calories burned from carrying a golf bag, with 14 clubs, weighing 15 pounds, wasn’t significantly different than manually pulling a golf bag on wheels or using an electric trolley, which requires no additional effort and is very similar to using a golf caddie since the trolley can automatically follow golfers around the course.
Vaping and binge drinking may go together for many teens, so a tax that reduces vaping could also reduce drinking. Taxes on electronic cigarettes are designed to deter vaping. For teens, though, such taxes might have some unintended additional health benefits. A recent study found that states and municipalities with electronic-cigarette taxes had not only lower rates of vaping by teenagers, but less binge drinking and fewer drunken-driving fatalities for teens as well.
Researchers found that almost 90% of workers age 45 to 62 would benefit by waiting until age 70 to collect Social Security. It’s no secret that retirees are often better off waiting to collect Social Security benefits. But exactly how much money are people leaving on the table by taking benefits early? A recent study, funded by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, finds that retirees often give up tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars by taking Social Security benefits too early. That takes into account that if a retiree claims Social Security at age 70 instead of 62, the monthly benefit could be 76% higher, adjusted for inflation.
Millennials have lived through two recessions and might be facing a third as their parents retire. Talking money with your parents isn't going to be fun, but it's a good idea to know their status. A major part of that preparation is figuring out where the money will come from to care for their parents. Decide who can provide the financial caretakingSo should millennials be saving for their parents' care? But Williams, the financial planner, doesn't advise millennials to focus their saving efforts on their parents' care.
Human remains have never been found on the moon, NASA’s chief historian told Reuters, but users online are sharing a video that is allegedly proof a sarcophagus named Mona Lisa was discovered during a moon mission. The same Mona Lisa figure appears in the background of a book by French author Thierry Speth titled, “Apollo 20, the Unknown Mission” (here). He added that there is “no evidence to substantiate” the claim that a figure named Mona Lisa was found on the moon. He also shared filmstrips of the Mona Lisa to that group that match the footage in the viral video (here). In one post (here), Speth shared a link to an interview he did about Apollo 20 (here).

A desire for a positive couple identity when it comes to sustainability holds lessons for businesses. If you saw your spouse throwing away a glass bottle instead of recycling it, would it make you more likely to recycle? The answer has a lot to do with who has the decision-making power in the relationship.
MEXICO CITY — Hurricane Lisa made landfall Wednesday near Belize City, in the Central American nation of Belize. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Lisa had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph at landfall. The storm’s center was about 10 miles southwest of Belize City and moving west at 12 mph. The hurricane center warned of the danger of flooding and mudslides from heavy rains. Far out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Martin rose to hurricane strength Wednesday, but forecasters said it posed no immediate threat to land.
Tropical Storm Lisa strengthened Tuesday as it pushed across the western Caribbean south of the Cayman Islands and was forecast to make landfall, likely as a hurricane, in Central America as early as Wednesday. And Mexico was also preparing as Lisa was forecast to strengthen in warm tropical waters and strike Belize late Wednesday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Lisa had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and was moving west at 15 mph. A hurricane warning was in effect for Roatan and the other Bay Islands of Roatan, and Guatemala declared a warning for its entire Caribbean coast. Hurricane expert Philip Klotzbach, a Colorado State University meteorologist, tweeted that Lisa would be the first hurricane to make landfall in Belize during November since 1942.

An activist targeted Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa on Monday, throwing cake at the portrait inside the Louvre Museum in Paris. Sergio Migliaccio, a witness to the incident, said the man was in a wheelchair wearing a long wig amid the crowd of people there to see the famed painting. “All of a sudden the guy jumped from the wheelchair and, with a red rose between his lips, he climbed the fences and attacked the Mona Lisa with a cake,” Migliaccio said. The painting hangs behind a layer of glass, leaving it unharmed by the cake. It was also damaged in an acid attack perpetrated by a vandal in the 1950s, and has since been kept behind glass.
