On Tuesday, "Inside Out 2" surpassed $1.46 billion in global ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing animated feature of all time, usurping another Disney title, "Frozen II." The record-breaking box office for "Inside Out 2" comes after a series of theatrical hits and misses from the company, especially from its animated releases. In particular, Pixar has suffered at the box office in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Of note, Disney does not consider its 2019 "The Lion King" to be an animated feature despite nearly the entire film being computer animated. Otherwise, it would be the highest-grossing animated feature, as it collected more than $1.6 billion during its theatrical run.

AMC Entertainment on Wednesday warned investors of declines in key metrics during the second quarter, sending its shares down more than 7%. It also said it expects to post a net loss of $32.8 million compared with a profit of $8.6 million in the second quarter of 2023. "This explains the weakness in our preliminary Q2 2024 results, as contrasted with the same quarter of a year ago." "But if looking only at the full quarter, the lay observer might easily miss the incredibly good news that transpired within the second quarter," Aron said. "This in turn suggests that AMC should enjoy increasing adjusted EBITDA, if as and when overall industry revenues are climbing.

CNN —President Joe Biden outraised – and dramatically outspent – the campaign of Republican rival Donald Trump last month, new campaign reports filed Saturday show, raising questions about how long the president’s political team can operate at full throttle if donations dry up. By contrast, Trump’s campaign spent just shy of $10 million, leaving $128 million in its war chest. One fundraiser that proceeded over the weekend in Cape Cod brought in more $2 million, campaign officials said. Trump’s campaign, meanwhile, has consistently spent far less than Biden’s. A super PAC backing Trump’s candidacy, MAGA Inc., meanwhile, entered July with nearly $114 million in available cash.

No one has ever said that Donald Trump doesn’t know a good story when he hears one. Trump is a master of narrative. Not always true narrative, and not always rational narrative. (Barron, who was very upset by what happened to his father, according to Trump aides, was nowhere to be seen.) “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” Trump told the crowd at Fiserv Forum, after walking out on a stage with a campy giant “TRUMP” in blazing white lights and a display of the White House portico.

This simple solution took root in McGriff’s mind and started her journey helping women and girls transform their lives. Tasked with creating a business or nonprofit for a class project, she remembered the notion of the school uniform and developed an idea. The ‘uniform that grows’That first year, the group hired local seamstresses and provided uniforms and school fees to 65 girls. “It’s all (done) with this tone of empowering girls and helping girls to understand their rights and their opportunities in society,” she said. Eventually, McGriff hopes SHE can become self-sustaining so her role can be further reduced, which has been her goal from the beginning.

Picture Books That See Shadows in a New Light

Which is why it’s so refreshing to find two picture books that present shadows for what they are: the non-nefarious interplay of light and dark. Ultimately, her shadow is joined in a meadow by those of two other children and a dog (the four of them now “friendly” shadows). It is in the presence of harsh light — rather than the depths of darkness — that the story turns somber. It was a thinking shadow, a shadow you could feel but not see. Feng’s soft-lined illustrations visually articulate the essence of Handy’s “stretching shadows,” easing day into night.

Can Boeing get back to its glory days?

Then on Jan. 5, about six minutes and 16,000 feet into a packed flight out of Portland, Oregon, a door plug blew out of a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9. The Federal Aviation Administration barred Boeing from increasing output of its Max planes and stepped up hands-on inspections at production plants. The 737 was dubbed "Baby Boeing" and went on to become the company's bestseller, helping to make Boeing the largest U.S. exporter. Pilots in those Boeing planes fought against a flight-control system, the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, that pushed the nose of the planes downward repeatedly. Boeing has said it aims to increase rates to about 50 Max planes a month in the next few years.

"It's a very momentum-driven market," said Ben Klein, the cofounder at the record label and music-marketing firm Hundred Days. Still, for some artists, albums can be a useful tool for marketing, streaming economics, and nourishing their biggest fans. "If you're capturing all of your fans and the fans are streaming 10 songs or they're streaming 30 songs, it actually makes a big difference on charting and streaming revenue." AdvertisementOf course, writing lots of quality songs for an album is easier said than done. Thousands of Trump supporters in Milwaukee on Monday night hailed their leader, elevating him from MAGA superhero to saint-like status. For Trump’s millions of American fans, Monday night was a validation of their faith in God and the ex-president and the righteousness of his mission. A list of Black Republican and female Republican lawmakers gave speeches, offering a somewhat misleading perception that the GOP has a deep and diverse bench. One GOP source said speechwriters at the convention had thrown out all their pre-written material for the week’s top speakers and started again. The ex-president has a new chance at politics and life in the wake of his assassination attempt.

Kids increasingly prefer to zone out for hours watching free short-form videos instead of full-length TV episodes and movies. In April, Nielsen estimated, kids 2 to 11 watched three times as much YouTube as Disney+ content. Kids watching Disney clips on YouTube may have no need for Disney+. 5 spot for kids' entertainment on YouTube in 2023, according to Tubular, a social video analytics company. Kids preferring short-form videos on YouTube over full-length episodes and movies is a problem that Disney doesn't seem to be able to solve.

Trump called Vance 20 minutes before he announced he’d chosen the Ohio senator on Truth Social, a source familiar with the process told CNN. The two had met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club on Saturday, before the rally at which Trump was shot in the ear. Trump is betting that Vance articulating his evolution from Trump critic to supporter will prove much more potent than those older comments. “President Trump honored the Constitution. “I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States,” Rose said.

Shoppers are also being squeezed by higher prices at the grocery store, with food prices experiencing modest upticks last month, according to the newest inflation report. Ahold Delhaize, the chain’s Dutch parent company, revealed the locations Friday adding that they will close in early November. Stop & Shop said it “remains committed to serving its communities through other store locations, online shopping and home delivery services.” Employees impacted by the closures will be offered other opportunities in the company. There are also concerns about 78-year-old Republican nominee Donald Trump's fitness for office — registered voters are split on whether he still has the cognitive skills for this job. "I have a cognitive test every single day," he added, alluding to the requirements of his job. Trump continues to boast that he "aced" the basic cognitive tests he took over four years ago, when he was president. These cognitive tests only rule out disease. Doctors themselves have resisted mandatory cognitive tests for older physicians — in part because it's ageist, but also because memory tests don't tell you whether someone is good at their job.

In 1994, when Sumner M. Redstone bought Paramount Pictures for about $10 billion, the equivalent of about $22 billion today, he did more than just take over a company. Perhaps more important, however, they gave their owners a precious identity as certified members of the cultural elite. Top ticket sellers in 1994 included touchstones like “The Lion King,” “Schindler’s List,” “Interview With the Vampire,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Philadelphia,” “Speed” and “Pulp Fiction.” In 1995, when “Forrest Gump” — a Paramount release — won the Oscar for best picture, more than 48 million Americans tuned in to watch. On Sunday, the Redstone family reluctantly relinquished Paramount, passing the studio to David Ellison, the tech scion behind a 14-year-old entertainment company called Skydance.

However, investors were also content to ramp up credit risk, directing more than $1.6 billion into ETFs with underlying bank loans and collateralized loan obligations, or CLOs, State Street found. Big institutional investors can purchase bank loans — which lending institutions make to companies — and benefit from the loans' floating coupon rate. CLOs are similar to bank loans: These are pools of floating rate loans made to businesses, which can be non-investment grade. Bank loans and CLOs tend to have less price sensitivity to changes in rates, meaning they are short duration. In my 20 years of covering presidential campaigns as a journalist, there have been just two political conventions where the presidential nominees, their teams, the delegates and the party spent all four days radiating the confidence of a winner. The first was the Democrats’ in 2008 with Barack Obama — I’ll never forget how everyone I spoke with was certain of victory in November. The second one was the Republicans’ this week in Milwaukee, where Trump supporter after Trump supporter calmly, clearly insisted that Donald Trump would win this November. Don’t get me wrong: Many of the convention speakers spewed grievances to tear down Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and there was a certain fraudulence to the whole event — with Republicans lying about their war on abortion rights by censoring any talk of it, and misleading the audience about the economy, immigration, crime and more. But the tone and tenor of the convention were ecstatic about Trump, who was portrayed and praised as a man who survived an assassination attempt by the grace of God and emerged as a “lion” (a word used multiple times this week).
