Fundstrat's Tom Lee believes that the technology sector will one day make up 50% of the S&P 500. During periods of extended labor shortages, like during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1990s, technology stocks significantly outperformed the S&P 500. "Technology demand, in our view, will accelerate as companies seek to offset labor shortage," Fundstrat said. "The outperformance of technology during periods of labor shortage is substantial — and we believe the forecasted 2015 to 2047 [labor shortage] to benefit technology stocks," Fundstrat said in a recent note. TAIPEI, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of tech giant Foxconn (2317.TW), on Friday withdrew from the race to be Taiwan's next president, bringing a sense of relief to the major Apple (AAPL.O) supplier and iPhone manufacturer, sources said. Although Gou stepped down as Foxconn chief in 2019 and resigned as a board member in early September, he remained the company's largest shareholder. But for many decades, the NFL and other leagues opposed having sport franchises in Las Vegas, most likely due to the city’s deeply rooted gambling industry. “Vegas fans tend to be sports fans, too, and sports have helped us expand the customer base that are willing to consider Las Vegas,” Hill said. And during the past two years, Las Vegas and other tourist-centric cities have benefitted from consumers’ post-pandemic splurges on experiences and travel versus goods. “Some darknesses refuse to fade,” the poet Danielle DeTiberus observed after contemplating “Judith Beheading Holofernes” by Artemisia Gentileschi. Having recently seen the dark paintings by Pierre Soulages at Lévy Gorvy Dayan gallery, in Manhattan, the poet’s lyric resonated. DeTiberus, in “The Artist Signs Her Masterpiece, Immodestly,” sees in Gentileschi’s depiction of a revenge killing the assertion of her agency. Kerry James Marshall used jet black skin tones to make Black people seem like human archetypes birthed from a subterranean womb. Ad Reinhardt painted subtly dark canvases at the edge of our eyes’ scotopic capabilities, their hues legible only after prolonged looking.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration//File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 22 (Reuters) - A milestone move by the European Central Bank toward launching a digital euro within a few years means the time has come for the newest incarnation of money to prove its worth. A few countries have introduced central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), China is trialling a prototype yuan with 200 million users, India is gearing up for a pilot and some 130 countries representing 98% of the global economy are exploring digital cash. Commercial bankers fret about the costs and possible deposit bleeds as customers could move money into central bank accounts, while developing countries worry that an easily accessible digital dollar, euro or yuan could cause havoc in their systems. DEFINING A GLOBAL STANDARDA key unknown is whether the U.S. Federal Reserve or Bank of Japan will launch retail CBDCs. "The current adoption level of eNaira has been reflective of the early stage of CBDC awareness," the country's central bank said in a written response to questions, adding it had been "consistent" with expectations.

TAIPEI, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Taiwan seeks "peaceful coexistence" with China with free and unrestricted interaction but the island will be democratic for generations to come, President Tsai Ing-wen said in her last national day speech on Tuesday. Speaking in front of the presidential office, Tsai said the strength of international support for Taiwan had reached an "unprecedented height". There was no immediate response from China's Taiwan Affairs Office. Beijing says Taiwan's government must accept that both China and Taiwan belong to "one China", which Tsai has refused to do. The Republic of China remains Taiwan's formal name, though the government tends to stylise it as the Republic of China, Taiwan, to distinguish it from the government in Beijing.

Naming Laphonza Butler to fill the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein's seat appears to meet California Gov. And while critics have pointed out that her address until the appointment was in Maryland, Butler "is deeply ingrained in the DNA of California politics." Butler, who will be sworn into the Senate this week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Monday morning, hasn't indicated whether she wants to stay in the job. An attorney for Tesla , in the first U.S. trial over allegations that its Autopilot feature led to a death, however, said the crash was the result of "a classic human error." The lawsuit, filed against Tesla by the passengers and Lee's estate, accuses Tesla of knowing that Autopilot and other safety systems were defective when it sold the car. Tesla said its Autopilot driver assistant system is not designed to make a sharp turn on a highway, as it defended the system's safety. The storm system is helping usher in traditional autumn weather across Britain this week with cool, wind-swept rains on Tuesday and Wednesday. Grahame Madge, a spokesman for the Met Office, Britain’s national weather service, said on Tuesday that it was not unusual for former hurricanes to enter this part of the world. He said this particular system would bring a significant amount of rainfall to parts of Britain, but no hurricane conditions. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain for much of Wales and northwest England. “Be aware of the possibility of flooding and travel disruption in these areas” on Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasters said.

Neither the company nor city officials were willing to voluntarily disclose details of the contract. BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Millions of people were under storm watches and warnings Saturday as Hurricane Lee churned toward shore, bearing down on New England and eastern Canada with heavy winds, high seas and rain. Train, who is also a firefighter, was going to wait out the storm on the island in Casco Bay. The Great New England Hurricane of 1938 brought gusts as high as 186 mph (300 kph) and sustained winds of 121 mph (195 kph) at Massachusetts’ Blue Hill Observatory. The region learned the hard way with Hurricane Irene in 2011 that damage isn’t always confined to the coast. Downgraded to a tropical storm, Irene still caused more than $800 million in damage in Vermont.

Lee, which was downgraded from a hurricane to a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday, brought gusty winds, rain and dangerous surf conditions to coastal communities in New England early Saturday, as the center of the much-anticipated storm approached landfall near the U.S.-Canadian border. As Lee inched closer on Friday, Maine opened emergency shelters, residents in New England were urged to secure their boats ashore and Nova Scotia urged preparations for power outages and floods. Early Saturday, tropical-storm-force winds, which forecasters warned could down trees and knock out power, were occurring in Massachusetts and Nova Scotia, the National Hurricane Center said. “Winds continue to be the biggest concern with Lee,” said the National Weather Service office in Portland, Maine, early Saturday. For more than a week, residents in eastern Canada and along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States have kept a wary eye on the slow-moving storm, which startled scientists earlier with how rapidly it had intensified and at one point led many people to worry that it could slam into the U.S. coast with devastating consequences.
