Tesla shareholder Richard Tornetta sued Musk and the board in 2018 and hopes to prove that Musk used his dominance over the electric vehicle maker's board to dictate terms of the package, which did not require him to work at Tesla full-time. In one clip, Musk dismissed the idea that the board should have discussed requiring that he spend more time with Tesla. He apologized from the stand to a British diver who he called "pedo guy" in a tweet and who sued Musk for defamation. The disputed Tesla package allows Musk to buy 1% of Tesla's stock at a deep discount each time escalating performance and financial targets are met. The Musk case survived a motion to dismiss because it was determined he might be considered a controlling shareholder, which means stricter rules apply.
“Personalities come and go,” said Dave Ball, the GOP chair in Pennsylvania’s Washington County, who has supported and defended Trump. Trump is preparing to do just that, with a Tuesday announcement expected at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. In Illinois, Republicans had threatened to take two state Supreme Court seats and flip state Senate and House seats. In Pennsylvania, GOP leaders had hoped to at least hold on to the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Pat Toomey. Trump lost the state by narrow margins in 2016 and 2020.
Since Elon Musk took over, Twitter has rolled out "verification" for accounts with Twitter Blue. The Twitter Blue check mark has no identity verification, letting users impersonate famous people. It took me 25 minutes to set up a "verified" Twitter account under the name of a Youtuber with more than 1.3 million subscribers. Through a fake Apple ID, a VPN, a disposable email, and a masked debit card, I used Twitter's new Twitter Blue program to launch the account. Thanks to Elon Musk, Twitter's blue check mark can now be boughtWith Musk's takeover of Twitter, the website's Twitter Blue program is billed as a premium subscription service that goes for $8 per month.
Control of even one chamber would allow Republicans to stymie Democrat Biden's legislative agenda and launch potentially damaging investigations. Biden warned that many Republican candidates are threatening democratic norms by echoing Trump's false claims about a stolen election in 2020. Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker said at a rally in Georgia. Biden spoke in normally safe Democratic territory outside New York City, where Republicans are threatening to make gains. First Lady Jill Biden visited Texas, a Republican-dominated state that has a handful of competitive races.
Instead of building a 4,500-tonne missile frigate, Taiwan's navy proposes two 2,000-tonne frigates. Taiwan's navy chief of staff says sending major ships to monitor Chinese ships has high costs. "This has significantly increased not only the operational and fuel costs of our ships but also the manpower," Chiang said. He said building the lighter frigates for the shadowing missions would be more cost effective. Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory that must be brought back under its control, by force if necessary.
But inside the walls at Ware, one of the state’s largest juvenile detention facilities, children have been trying to kill themselves with stunning regularity. In Louisiana, where brutal conditions prompted juvenile justice reform two decades ago, the system is again in crisis. Most Ware guards are Black, as well, though nearly all of its leaders are white, as are the local judge, sheriff and district attorney. “Of course, they still do.” In reports to the state, Ware’s nurses described carpet burns on children’s faces and head-to-toe bruises from restraints. In fact, of the four guards convicted of sexually assaulting children at Ware, Mr. Peace would be the only one imprisoned.
Mega mansions cost their owners between $10,000 and $50,000 in electric bills, reports say. A record-breaking $141 million mansion known as "the costliest house sold at auction," has monthly electric bills estimated at around $50,000. California's San Diego Gas & Electric raised its rates due to higher supply costs, and the new bills cost residents nearly 12% more than last year on average, the Wall Street Journal reported. Castillo said those hoping to cut down on electricity bills should focus more on their A/C units instead of turning off lights and appliances. In the LA Times report, he said that makes up 70% of electric bills during the summer.

Generation Z has already produced many founders, but it's still underrepresented in venture capital, Lawrence said in an interview with Insider. "Our business model is to make piles of money into bigger piles of money," Lawrence said. Lawrence said she got into venture capital because she wanted to help founders with visions she believes in. Her LinkedIn profile said she started in the operations team and then moved to the funds team. In Berlin, everyone is looking, and some funds work together, leading to everything becoming overpriced, she added.
A New York man was convicted Wednesday on charges that he moved into his daughter's dorm room at Sarah Lawrence College and abused students at the elite school in a nearly 10-year scheme. Lawrence Ray, 62, was found guilty of extortion, sex trafficking, forced labor, money laundering and other charges. Ray stood with his arms at his sides and faced the Manhattan jury as it returned guilty verdicts on all 15 counts, NBC New York reported. The U.S. attorney for Southern New York, Damian Williams, said Ray "terrorized" and "tortured" the group. After the guilty verdict was read Wednesday, Ray was returned to custody, where he has been since he was arrested in 2020.
