The Democratic National Committee has launched an "informational campaign" that includes bilingual billboards across the city ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ Univision town hall in Las Vegas on Thursday night. The campaign directs Latino voters and union members to check their registration status and look at options on how to cast their ballots through IWillVote.com and VoyAVotar.com. The majority of U.S. labor unions have endorsed Harris though many union members support Trump. “Nevada’s Latino and union voters have the power to decide who wins the Silver State in November,” DNC spokesperson Marco Frieri said in a statement. Latino voters are a critical voting bloc and can swing outcomes in battleground states across the country including Nevada, Arizona and Pennsylvania.

New York CNN —Univision will not fact check Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump on stage during their respective town halls, the Spanish language network confirmed to CNN. A TelevisaUnivision spokesperson told CNN the fact checking decision was not a condition for any candidate’s participation. Fact checking has become a major sticking point during the 2024 election, with both Trump and his running-mate Sen. J.D. Acevedo’s interview with Trump in November stunned many inside and outside the network for its softer approach and lack of fact checks. “These town halls are offering Latino voters an unprecedented opportunity to talk to the candidates.

Similarly, Latino voters’ preference for which party controls Congress stands at 54% Democrats, 42% Republicans — a much narrower gap than in past years. Surveying 1,000 Latino voters nationwide in English and Spanish, the poll also finds a striking split on immigration between Latino voters who prioritize a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and preventing discrimination, and those who focus more on border enforcement. Sixty-two percent of Latino voters believe immigration helps more than it hurts, versus 35% who think it hurts more than it helps. In this poll, 54% of Latino voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, versus 42% who want Republicans in charge. The NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC Latino poll of 1,000 registered Latino voters was conducted Sept. 16-23.

The survey of 1,000 Latino likely voters found the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, leading the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump, by 54% to 40%. Harris's 14-point lead is the narrowest margin for a Democratic candidate among surveyed Latino voters in at least the past four elections, going back to 2012. All of these groups rate the economy poorly, with Latino voters overall about as downbeat on the economy as the rest of the country. While that's about equal to the rest of the population, it stands 11 points higher than in the NBC 2022 Latino survey. Which Battleground State Voters Could Sway the Election? It says that in order for Democrats to win, Black voters must make up 30 percent of all voters and at least 30 percent of white voters must vote Democratic. Black voters, who cast nearly a third of the ballots in 2020, overwhelmingly favored Mr. Biden — by almost 90 percent. That’s because educational attainment divides mostly white voters, and many of Nevada’s less-educated voters are not white. Even so, that wasn’t enough for him to overcome the coalition of white voters with a college degree and voters of color who delivered Mr. Biden a victory.

While it was an asset to Biden in polling against Trump, it appears to be a much bigger advantage for Harris. And in this new NBC poll, Harris’ advantage was just under 20 points. It’s obvious at this point that Trump will win men by close to double digits, ditto with Harris among women. But many voters have seen "Vice President Kamala Harris" as a fresher candidate, including those who previously viewed Trump as a better steward of the economy. That would spell doom for Democrats' Senate majority.

Political organizations supporting Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are touting both campaigns' messages of “freedom” as they woo Latinas, a key voting bloc. Against Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump won just 28% of Hispanic women voters compared to Clinton’s 67%, according to Pew. Also, at least 13 states saw increases in Latina voter registrations when Biden left the race and endorsed Harris, according to TargetSmart CEO Tom Bonier. Republican Mercedes Schlapp, one of the “Latinas for Freedom” organizers, said the issue of abortion is one for states to decide. The group is defining freedom for Latinas as freedom from economic policies they say are "socialist."

Laws in three states have enacted tougher restrictions for people who help voters with disabilities, language or other issues cast their ballots. Latino groups who have sued Texas, Arkansas and Missouri over these laws are warning that those who need help to vote in November’s elections may not get the assistance they need. “Many Latino voters have disabilities or English is not their first language. “We have to remember that the number of Latino voters who participated in 2020 was higher than the number needed to tip the presidential election results.
