Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada Carolyn Rogers takes part in a press conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada October 25, 2023. REUTERS/Patrick Doyle/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 3 (Reuters) - The Bank of Canada has urged banks to reconsider offering variable rate mortgages with fixed payments, concerned about the number of borrowers faced with negative amortization of their loans. “I think you’ll see the industry reflect on how much they want to offer that product,” she addedMany variable rate mortgages in Canada require borrowers to make regular payments in fixed amounts. You don’t want a big portfolio of negative amortizing mortgages," Rogers said. Money markets see little chance of further tightening by the BoC and have moved to price in a rate cut by June.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

A view of the turbines at Orsted's offshore wind farm near Nysted, Denmark, September 4, 2023. The world's largest offshore wind farm developer has made a final investment decision on Revolution Wind, Orsted said in a statement, adding that it is expected to be completed by 2025. Development of the wind projects had been adversely affected by supply chain issues, increased interest rates and a lack of an OREC (offshore renewable energy certificate) adjustment on it's Sunrise Wind project, the company said. "Significant adverse developments from supply chain challenges, leading to delays in the project schedule, and rising interest rates have led us to this decision," Orsted chief executive officer Mads Nipper said. In August, Orsted said it may see U.S. impariments of $2.3 billion due to supply chain problems, soaring interest rates and a lack of new tax credits.

Orsted, the world's largest offshore wind developer, said it would stop developing its 2,248-megawatt (MW) Ocean Wind 1 and 2 projects in New Jersey. The offshore wind industry has found itself in a perfect storm of rising inflation, interest rate hikes and supply chain delays. Norway's Equinor (EQNR.OL), BP's partner on those New York offshore wind developments, booked a $300 million impairment on the projects on Friday. Orsted, which in June announced plans to invest 475 billion crowns by 2030, said it was in the process of reviewing its investments and could introduce cost-saving initiatives. Orsted's share price has tumbled 52% since an August profit warning, cutting its market value to 112 billion crowns from 235 billion.

Musk said in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that it was not clear who has authority for ground links in Gaza, but we do know that "no terminal has requested a connection in that area". Following Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Starlink satellites were reported to have been critical to maintaining internet connectivity in some areas despite attempted Russian jamming. Single women face unique challenges when planning for retirement, so I asked an expert for help. Plus, women are often put in a caregiving role, which means time off from work — and not contributing regularly to retirement funds. So how can single women like me juggle with inflation, a higher cost of living, dwindling income, and the gender wage gap to be on track for retirement? I asked Marie Thomasson, a certified financial planner and founder of Modern Assets, an LA-based financial advisory firm for independent, progressive women, for tips on how single women can steer the course and make sure they're on track with their goals for retirement planning. Reassess your retirement accountsOnce you have your financial bases covered, you can venture into investing and retirement planning, says Thomasson.

REUTERS/Peter Nicholls/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 6 (Reuters) - Britain on Friday reaffirmed its position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, after reports said that India had asked Canada to withdraw 41 diplomats. "The Prime Minister reaffirmed the UK's position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," a government spokesperson said in a statement after Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Tensions between India and Canada escalated last month when Canada said it was "actively pursuing credible allegations" linking Indian government agents to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia in June.
