A view shows the crude oil terminal Kozmino on the shore of Nakhodka Bay near the port city of Nakhodka, Russia August 12, 2022. Oil's rally comes along with gains across financial assets after the Fed maintained its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 5.25%-5.50% at its latest meeting on Wednesday. Iran, a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), produced around 2.5 million barrels per day of crude in 2022, according to U.S. energy data. Data from U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed that the country's crude stocks increased as refiners undergoing seasonal maintenance restarted units more slowly than expected. But despite lower refining runs, U.S. gasoline stocks (USOILG=ECI) rose by 0.1 million barrels in the week to 223.5 million barrels, the EIA said.

Procter & Gamble on Wednesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that topped analysts' expectations, despite volume falling for the sixth consecutive quarter. The company's organic revenue increased 7% in the quarter, helped by higher prices for P&G's products. But the company's volume shrank 1%. The company now projects revenue growth of 2% to 4%, rather than its prior forecast of 3% to 4%. London CNN —Israel’s vast tech sector has seen its fair share of crises, from financial downturns and the Covid-19 pandemic to periodic flare-ups in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “This is different than anything we’ve faced before,” said Avi Hasson, the CEO of Start-Up Nation Central (SNC), a non-profit that promotes Israel’s tech industry globally. “Seasoned investors with experience backing Israeli startups are not backing away due to the war,” said Samid of TechAviv. For many in Israel’s tech industry, the devastating circumstances have only served to underscore the sector’s famed resilience. “Israeli [tech] hasn’t stopped,” Hasson noted.

"This is not a particularly easy time to get investment," he added, noting the number of flights to Israel that have been cancelled. Medved said that he believes that Israel will prevail as an tech investment destination. "Historically, every time Israel has gone to war, long term has been a buy side," he said. That's partly why so few quantitative trading firms reside in California, whose labor-friendly laws have long favored employee mobility and competition. The hedge fund has bulldozed past state prohibitions to not just impose noncompetes, but impose some of the harshest noncompetes in the entire industry, according to seven former employees, industry experts, and documents detailing the firm's restrictive covenants. Legacy automakers are pivoting to electric vehicles in response to expected strong consumer demand, tougher environmental regulations both from US states and foreign countries, and a push from Wall Street. Electric vehicles have outpaced growth of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in recent years. But automakers bucked Trump and agreed to meet tougher standards set by California rather than the Trump administration’s rules. At a Detroit battery plant Wednesday, Trump said America didn’t need what the factory produced“This plant, we just walked through this plant and the electric vehicles are gonna put [automakers] out of business,” Trump said. Trump’s proposals could undermine US companies’ EV investments and hand over control of an increasingly EV future to foreign manufacturers.

Many Americans, even once-ardent proponents of globalization, have soured on trade with China. But there is a growing danger that as the United States tries to address its difficulties with China, it will pull back too far, severing economic ties that benefit American families and contribute to global peace and prosperity. Soybean farmers in the Upper Midwest sold a record $16.4 billion of their beans to China, mostly for pig feed. Hundreds of millions of Chinese have come out of poverty thanks to global trade, and have become consumers of U.S. goods and services. Amid the harsh talk, the dollar value of American trade with China — Americans buying Chinese products and the Chinese buying American products — rose to a record in 2022.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Derrick Anderson, a U.S. Army combat veteran and attorney, announced plans Monday to again seek the Republican nomination for a Virginia congressional seat that could be a key to determining party control of the U.S. House. The former Green Beret pledged in a statement to run a “tireless, heartfelt, and genuine” campaign to represent the 7th District in the Fredericksburg area, where he grew up. Vega went on to lose to Democratic U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who has represented the 7th District since 2018. Speculation has swirled for months that Spanberger, seen by Democrats as a rising star and by Republicans as a formidable opponent, will run for Virginia governor in 2025. The 7th District was overhauled during the redistricting process that ended in late 2021.

When officers roused him, he fled at a high rate of speed, assaulting both officers with the vehicle, police said. That evening, he fled police on foot and then on a stolen bicycle before stealing a sailboat on Lake Champlain, police said. But after the sailboat rain aground at the base of lakeside cliffs, he fled, authorities said. An email was sent to police seeking to find out if Edson is being represented by an attorney.

BOTZ has been a key beneficiary of the AI advance, garnering $594 million in inflows this year, according to FactSet. While many investors see AI as a tech play, Todd Sohn, ETF and technical strategist at Strategas Securities, believes that the benefit of industrials is an under-the-radar narrative worth taking a second glance at. And because data is what's driving AI, Maier said, larger companies like Amazon , Alphabet and Meta Platforms best retain that type of exposure. "Right now, [data] is what AI is, while we're trying to figure out where AI is going," he said. But for investors looking to diversify beyond the tech wave, Sohn affirmed that industrials are poised to benefit from the rise in AI-induced efficiency and productivity in robotics and automation companies.

A select group of our Club holdings have recently demonstrated durable pricing power to protect profits during what continues to be a high inflation environment. For companies, elevated inflation means higher input costs — higher costs on the goods and services required to run their businesses. In a recent note, UBS acknowledged, "Inflation may trend back toward the Fed's target sooner than expected reducing the relative advantage of companies with pricing power." In fact, UBS believes that "companies with pricing power have the potential to outperform the broader market in the months ahead." Microsoft's pricing power comes down to the simple fact that they have positioned themselves as a core backbone of global productivity.

Wolves were convinced they should have had a penalty in added time, after United goalkeeper Andre Onana clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic in trying to deal with a cross. Hooper was the on-field referee and Salisbury and West were tasked with Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties. "Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given - fair play to him, he apologised," O'Neil told reporters. But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error - he couldn't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and can't believe VAR didn't intervene. Markets hit the skids on Wednesday after Fitch Ratings downgraded its rating on U.S. debt to AA+ on Tuesday evening — one notch below the agency's highest rating of AAA. "The repeated debt-limit political standoffs and last-minute resolutions have eroded confidence in fiscal management," the rating firm said in a press release. In historical context, though, this week's downgrade is less of a big deal than it seems, experts say. the rating agency dinged Uncle Sam's once perfect credit rating.
