The Israel-Lebanon border has seen constant, but so far limited, clashes since a war in Gaza erupted two weeks ago. Persistent violence along the Israel-Lebanon border has raised fears that fighting between Israel and Hamas Islamists in Gaza could spiral into a broader, regional conflict. Evacuees from Kiryat Shmona will be put up in state-subsidised guesthouses, Israel's Defense Ministry said, joining tens of thousands of Israelis who have already left their homes near the southern Gaza border. The Committee to Protect Journalists has said it has documented more than 20 journalists killed since the start of the Israel-Gaza conflict and said it was investigating reports of other journalists killed, injured and reported missing. The latest incident on the Israel-Lebanon border came nearly a week after Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah was killed in southern Lebanon.

Nighttime aerial footage of a mass protest in Tel Aviv in March 2023 is woven into a montage video about demonstrations in response to the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, misrepresenting the scale of protests in the Israeli city. The first part of the montage (0:00 - 0:12) showing aerial footage of protestors crowding roads is from March 11, 2023 and originally part of a video report by The Telegraph. The YouTube video description says the video shows news reporter Matt Gutman among “dozens of protestors who are demanding Israel do more to find hostages.”There is no evidence of recent mass protests in Tel Aviv involving thousands of people. Local media reported on demonstrations in which “hundreds” demanded the release of abductees held by Hamas. A video montage showing public reaction in Tel Aviv amid the Israel-Hamas war misrepresents the size of protests in October 2023 by including months-old footage of a different mass protest in the city.

Israel's Defense Ministry and the Israel Defense Forces on Friday asked residents to evacuate from the northern city of Kiryat Shmona, near the Lebanon border. The evacuation order, which was approved by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, comes amid fears that the Israel-Hamas war could spill over into a regional conflict. Shelling has intensified in recent days between northern Israel and southern Lebanon, a stronghold of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. U.S. President Joe Biden said he would send Congress an "urgent budget request" on Friday, seeking to provide funding for critically important international allies, including Israel and Ukraine. The request comes as the Israel-Hamas war enters its 14th day, with many fearful that an expected ground assault on the Gaza Strip could worsen an already dire humanitarian crisis.

U.S. President Joe Biden is in Israel where he plans to show "solidarity" with the country after its Oct. 7 terrorist attack. Palestinian militant group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, as well as Arab leaders blame the attack on Israel's Defense Forces which have been relentlessly bombing Gaza daily since the Hamas terror attack on Israel that killed some 1,300 people. Israel blames Hamas and its affiliate group Palestinian Islamic Jihad, saying the hospital blast was caused by a failed rocket launch. Israel's bombings of Gaza and total siege over the small enclave have killed more than 3,000 Palestinians so far, the territory's health ministry says. Horrific scenes of the wounded ignited street protests in capitals across the region.
