Two years after an Alabama prisoner was spared when staff members struggled to execute him by lethal injection, officials plan to try again Thursday — using the rare method of nitrogen gas. He filed a federal lawsuit in March seeking to halt his execution, citing the state's past execution failures and concerns that the method of nitrogen hypoxia would add pain and prolong death. "The resolution of this case confirms that Alabama's nitrogen hypoxia system is reliable and humane," Marshall said in a previous statement. Alabama officials have insisted in court filings that nitrogen hypoxia is "painless because it causes unconsciousness in seconds" and death within minutes. New York CNN —More than 400 economists and former high-ranking US policymakers are endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris and her vision for the American economy, according to a document announcing the endorsement seen by CNN. “The choice in this election is clear: between failed trickle-down economic policies that benefit the few and economic policies that provide opportunity for all,” the endorsement document reads. Harris plans to roll out new policies on what she calls the “opportunity economy” during a speech in Pennsylvania, another key battleground state, on Wednesday. Bryan Kohberger, the man accused in the murders of four University of Idaho students, was transported by plane Sunday morning from the Idaho county where he was being jailed to another county where his trial will be held. Latah County District Judge John Judge had ruled in favor of lawyers for Kohberger, 29, who argued a trial in Latah County would be unfair because of the intense pretrial publicity creating a "mob mentality" against the defendant. The trial of the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho students will be moved out of the county where the killings took place in late 2022, a judge ruled in a decision released Monday. Latah County District Judge John Judge heard arguments last month about whether the trial of Bryan Kohberger, tentatively set for next June, should be moved to Ada County, about 300 miles south and home to Idaho’s capital, Boise. Judge did not immediately specify the new location in granting a different venue, which he said was based on “presumed prejudice” if the trial remains in Latah County. A new judge is expected to be brought onto the case once it moves, although it’s unclear when the Idaho Supreme Court could decide on the judge and venue.
