Now, a new analysis by physicists based in China and France suggests the artist had a deep, intuitive understanding of the mathematical structure of turbulent flow. Batchelor’s scaling mathematically represents how small particles, such as drifting algae in the ocean or pieces of dust in the wind, are passively mixed around by turbulent flow. “I think this physical relationship must be embedded in his mind so that’s why when he made this famous ‘Starry Night’ painting, it mimics the real flow,” Huang said. “What I take away from studies like this is that (van Gogh) captured some of this universality in the beautiful (‘Starry Night’),” Beattie added.

The Food and Drug Administration expanded the approval of Kisqali, a drug for metastatic breast cancer, to also treat patients with earlier stages of the disease, drugmaker Novartis said Tuesday. The approval means that tens of thousands of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will have access to a medication that can help prevent their cancer from coming back. The expanded approval is for patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, the most common form of the disease. CNN —Justin Timberlake is expected to plead guilty to one count of driving while impaired in a deal with Suffolk County, New York prosecutors, who agreed to drop a driving while intoxicated charge against the singer, according to a source familiar with the case. The plea will include a to-be-determined fine, though the judge in the case could impose other penalties and still needs to approve the agreement at a hearing scheduled Friday morning, where Timberlake is anticipated to be in attendance. Before the agreement, Timberlake had pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge, a misdemeanor, back in August. Had he been convicted, he could have faced a maximum of one year in prison and a $2500 fine. Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York in June.
