U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt on Tuesday defended the company's planned sale to Japan's Nippon Steel, expressing confidence that the deal will "close on its merits" despite President Joe Biden's vocal opposition. "We strongly believe the deal closes on its merits," Burritt said in an interview on CNBC's "Money Movers." "It strengthens national security, it strengthens economic security and it strengthens job security." CFIUS told Nippon that the sale could "lead to a reduction in domestic steel production capacity," according to a letter obtained by Reuters earlier this month. The committee said supply chains could be disrupted in sectors critical to national security such as transportation, infrastructure, construction and agriculture.

Not only am I producing solar [energy] and any excess is going back onto the grid, but the power from the grid coming into my home is clean and sustainable. MW: Our utility bills are projected to be about $917 a year with [solar] panels, or around $80 a month. Demi Moore gives the wildest performance of her career in French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat's provocative new movie "The Substance." "The Substance" centers on Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore), a former A-lister whose career is on the decline. They can't survive separately because with Elisabeth dead, there's no more stabilizer fluid, and without stabilizer fluid, Sue can't continue to exist. So Sue's body (while she's en route to the big New Year's Eve performance) starts deteriorating: her teeth begin coming out, and a nail pops off. The monster rips down a photo of Elisabeth's younger face and tapes it on, then dolls itself up with carefully placed earrings and some makeup.

The US military deployed its Mid-Range Capability, or Typhon, missile system to the Philippines in April, and US military officials have expressed interest in deploying it in Japan. The MRC is a versatile new ground-based missile system that is capable of firing the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile System. The US military deployed the missile system overseas for the first time in April, putting it in the Philippines amid a joint exercise between the two militaries. AdvertisementWhile the new weapon wasn't fired during the exercise, its presence in the region irked China, which demanded the system be removed. Russia is said to have violated the Cold War-era arms-control pact by developing and fielding the SSC-8/9M729 missile system.

Even if Qualcomm acquired Intel, it's unclear what it would do with its manufacturing operations. Which Intel lacked," tweeted Bryan Catanzaro, vice president of applied deep learning research at Nvidia, who previously worked at Intel as an intern on the Larrabee project. The CPUs that made Intel big now have presented what Logan Purk, senior analyst at Edward Jones, called "the inventor's dilemma," when newer technology replaces established incumbents. Not surprisingly, the news has given a jolt to the most liquid Chinese ETF today, as well. The iShares China Large Cap ETF (FXI) has been trading even higher than that so far on Tuesday. The ETF was trading considerably higher in pre-market trading hours and opened a whopping 6% higher from the prior day's close. And that's exactly why we need to look beyond the last few months to a get true sense of its trend. And at that point, the ETF would be hitting its highest level since early 2022.

But Moscow doesn't appear ready to acknowledge that it's not in a financial position to cut Europe off from its natural gas exports completely. Russia's oil and gas revenues hit 8.82 trillion rubles, or $94.6 billion, in 2023. That's 24% lower than the 11.6 trillion rubles it recorded in 2022, when revenues jumped due to oil price volatility. In 2021, Russia's oil and gas sales revenue stood at 9 trillion rubles. To be sure, other geopolitical factors could also be playing into Russia's decision to keep natural gas exports moving into Europe.
