Some analysts recommend buying dividend stocks as a way around it. The price cut for the plant, a joint venture between South Korea's Hyundai Motor (011760.KS) and Beijing Automotive Group Co, was disclosed in a filing on the China Beijing Equity Exchange late last month. Beijing Hyundai Motor is selling the land use rights, equipment and other facilities belonging to its plant as the South Korean automaker rejigs its strategy in China amid fierce price competition and slowing demand. The original asking price was 3.68 billion yuan, and the statement did not give a reason for the reduction.

That will give Hyundai EVs with NACS ports access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the company said. Owners of existing and future Hyundai EVs with the current CCS will have access to the Tesla Supercharging Network starting in the first quarter of 2025. In June, Hyundai Motor said it would consider making its vehicles more readily compatible with the NACS charging system. Tesla's NACS is widely available, with the U.S. Department of Energy saying they make up about 60% of the fast chargers in the United States.

Hyundai Motor and Kia announced Thursday they will soon adopt Tesla's electric vehicle charging system, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2024 in the United States. Hyundai and Kia join others like Ford and General Motors to integrate the Tesla charging ports, called North American Charging Standard, into their electric vehicles, allowing drivers to use any Tesla charging stations. The charging tech has gained steam in recent months toward becoming a unified charging standard among electric vehicle makers. "Our collaboration with Tesla marks another milestone in our commitment to delivering exceptional EV experiences to our customers," said José Muñoz, president and global COO of Hyundai. As part of the deal, Tenstorrent plans to use one of Samsung's advanced manufacturing processes, known as 4nm, to produce the chips. Associated Press calculations show projected incentives will rise by more than $290 million from the $1.8 billion deal originally announced last year. The deal calls for Hyundai and battery maker LG Energy Solution to invest $7.6 billion in the Georgia plant and hire 8,500 workers by the end of 2031. It’s the largest economic development deal in Georgia history, and comes with the largest incentive package. If Hyundai didn't owe that much state corporate income tax, Georgia would instead give the company personal income taxes collected from Hyundai workers. Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution will boost their joint investment in a Georgia battery manufacturing plant by $2 billion and add 400 additional jobs, the companies and the state said Thursday. The auto manufacturing plant is scheduled to begin producing vehicles in January 2025 and will build 300,000 vehicles annually. If the union stages a strike, it would mark the first such action in five years related to wage negotiations at the South Korean carmaker, and could disrupt delivery of some popular vehicles which Hyundai has been struggling to ramp up due to prolonged component shortages. The voting result is expected at around 6 p.m. (0900 GMT), a union official at Hyundai Motor told Reuters, adding that the union will continue working-level negotiations with the management regardless of the vote. China is dominant in magnets and the rare earth metals they are made from. Magnet makers are also drawn to Vietnam by low labour costs and market access afforded by multiple free-trade deals. It said it sources most of its rare earths from China but is seeking alternative sources in Vietnam and Australia and plans to develop a processing facility in Vietnam. In the latest volatile session since its backdoor listing last week, VinFast's stock was last up 127% at $40.24, giving it a market capitalization of $95 billion. The stock traded as high as $46.98 earlier in the session. The stock was the second highest on trading website Stocktwits "Trending" list on Tuesday, suggesting it has attracted the interest of individual investors. About $428 million worth of VinFast's shares had been traded as of mid-day, compared to Tesla's (TSLA.O) turnover of over $17 billion.

The UAW president has rattled automakers with combative rhetoric, delivered via Facebook Live videos, including one where he threw contract proposals from Stellantis into a trash can. U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday urged the automakers and the union to come to a "fair agreement." The three automakers have signaled such a move would add billions in liabilities and make their unionized U.S. operations uncompetitive. Fain said the union's analysis concluded that the automakers could fund defined-benefit plans for roughly the same cost as current 401(k) savings plans. Walkouts at the Detroit Three could benefit Tesla (TSLA.O) and other non-union automakers including Toyota Motor (7203.T), Honda Motor (7267.T), Nissan Motor (7201.T) and Hyundai Motor (005380.KS), Anderson said.

Through its Sriperumbudur facility outside Chennai city and now the Talegaon plant, Hyundai aims to increase its cumulative production capacity to one million units per year, it said on Wednesday. The company had a production capacity of 820,000 units in the first half of this year. The South Korean firm said it intends to upgrade the existing infrastructure at the Talegaon unit and start manufacturing in 2025. The plant currently has an annual production capacity of 130,000 units.

Hyundai has already laid out plans to invest $2.45 billion to beef up EV production in the country, and is bullish on the local appetite for EVS. "The country is becoming an increasingly important center for electric vehicle production and sales," Hyundai said. That could include Teslas, with the Elon Musk-run company (TSLA.O) planning to sell locally made EVs, starting at $24,000.
