Tesla is set to report second-quarter earnings after the bell on Tuesday. Although Tesla reported vehicle deliveries of 443,956 in the second quarter, a 4.8% decline from the year-earlier period, those numbers were better than analysts had expected. But Musk and his stalwart Tesla bulls and broader fan base have ambitions for the EV maker beyond making and selling cars. In 2021, Musk also began to promise that Tesla would develop and produce humanoid robots capable of factory work, at least. Tesla "deliveries" are not an audited financial metric, but are the closest approximation to sales reported by the company.

None of the country’s largest social media platforms responded to repeated questions from CNN over multiple days this week about what actions they have taken in response to misinformation and conspiracy theories circulating about the Trump rally shooting. And what the public experienced on social media in the moments after the attack on Trump is a sign of what’s to come, said Imran Ahmed, CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a social media watchdog group that advocates for tighter regulation of the platforms. “It can’t make a safe social media product that does politics and civic stuff, and so it just got out of that business.”Baybars Orsek, managing director of the fact-checking organization Logically Facts, said these and other changes by social media platforms have made working with them in the last few years more challenging. The decision effectively means the US government can continue to flag misinformation threats to social media companies in the runup to the 2024 election. Mainstream media outlets, taking care to report only credible answers, were initially slower to report what was happening than the breakneck pace of social media speculation.

With the second-quarter earnings season beginning to gain steam, Evercore ISI's Mark Mahaney has updated his list of tactical calls. He has a $225 price target on shares, indicating upside potential of about 20%. "We continue to believe that recent concerns about UBER being negatively impacted by an AV rollout are mis-placed," said Mahaney. Mahaney added that Uber shares are currently trading at a "very attractive" valuation of around 20 times enterprise value to free cash flow. With shares trading approximately 30% below their 52-week high, Mahaney thinks now is an attractive time to enter what he calls "a best-in-class ecommerce platform business."

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares speaks to media on June 13, 2024 following the company's investor day at its North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich.AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Stellantis has achieved 8.4 billion euros ($9 billion) in cost reductions from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Groupe that created the company in January 2021, CEO Carlos Tavares said Thursday. That amount is more than double initial expectations from when the merger was announced in 2019, and an increase from the updated 5 billion euros in expected reductions within five years of completion of the merger that formed one of the world's largest automakers. Cost-saving measures have included reshaping the company's supply chain and operations, as well as headcount reductions. Since the merger was agreed to in December 2019, Stellantis has reduced headcount by 15.5%, or roughly 47,500 employees, through 2023, according to public filings. Several Stellantis executives described the cuts to CNBC as difficult but effective.
