Strange animal behaviors have been observed at the Fort Worth Zoo during totality, according to researchers stationed in Texas. Images of thousands of migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border dogged the administration as it wrestled with how to manage multiple different nationalities — a significant change from previous years that proved challenging. Sources tell CNN that discussions about the border at the White House were often tense as the issue increasingly became a political liability for Biden. But now, the White House is trying to take advantage of Republicans backing away from the Senate border bill — and seizing on border security to take swipes at the GOP.

The unexpected decision comes as a similar anti-Trump challenge from Colorado is pending before the US Supreme Court, which is widely expected to reject arguments that Trump is barred from office. It also comes just hours after the Supreme Court announced it would hear oral arguments in Trump's claim that he has presidential immunity against criminal charges. Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie Porter stripped Trump from the Illinois ballot one month after the anti-Trump challenge was dismissed by the Illinois State Board of Elections. But those decisions were paused pending the appeal of the Colorado case to the US Supreme Court. They have only succeeded in Colorado and Maine, but those rulings were paused until the US Supreme Court reviewed the Colorado case.

CNN —Australia on Tuesday announced plans to build its largest navy since World War II, allocating more than $35 billion for the defense project over the next 10 years, in a move analysts said pointed to heightened tensions with China in the Indo-Pacific. The independent review noted Australia had “the oldest fleet Navy has operated in its history,” according to the government statement. John Bradford, Council on Foreign Relations international affairs fellow, said Australia would need to be steadfast in sticking with the plan. “This investment provides a clear pathway for the shipbuilding industry and workforce in South Australia and Western Australia,” the release said. However, the opposition Greens party called the plan a “multi-billion-dollar mistake” driven by local political concerns to protect shipbuilding jobs – and political ones.
