AI models too worried about mistakes can stop being useful, according to one AI executive. download the app Email address Sign up By clicking “Sign Up”, you accept our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy . Occasional "hallucinations" — errors caused by incorrect assumptions or programming deficiencies — are part of the "tradeoff" for an otherwise useful AI system, Kaplan said. Earlier this year, BI reported that researchers at the company, as part of a study, designed AI models that would intentionally lie to humans.

The Vision Pro may be a few generations away from reaching its full potential, some developers say. AdvertisementApple has blown people away with its new Vision Pro headset — but some feel that there's much more to do. Gurman, in his review, wrote that "today's Vision Pro is more of a preview of the future than the future itself," pointing out its unwieldy weight and short battery life. "While many on the Street are dismissing Vision Pro as noise, we strongly disagree," the firm said. Business Insider's Jordan Hart also called the Vision Pro a "promising" technology, though she noted the relatively meager offerings on the device's App Store.

Barclays plans to cut bonuses for underperforming investment bankers amid a capital markets slump. The plan could lead to more departures after pay cuts and restructuring shook the bank. Barclays' stock has lagged behind rivals, which some say is due to its bloated investment banking arm. Those departures were spurred by a shake-up in Barclays' investment banking arm, which included pay cuts as high as 40% for some managing directors. A similar crisis occurred in 2019 after the head of the investment banking unit stepped down unexpectedly.

Streaming companies turned a blind eye to password-sharing for years. Users of the family-oriented streaming platform received emails this week notifying them of changes to the terms of service. The new terms note that different service tiers may permit some degree of password-sharing — if you're willing to pay. Disney's updated terms of service are almost identical to those of Hulu and ESPN+, which were also announced on January 25. Iger's comments came in the wake of Netflix's successful crackdown earlier last year, when the streaming giant announced it would start charging $8 for users outside the household.

CNN —The $83.3 million verdict handed down in E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case against former President Donald Trump on Friday is far more than a judgment against Trump. In May, a Manhattan federal jury found Trump sexually abused Carroll in 1996. Legally, the award is an attempt to quantify the damages Trump wreaked on Carroll’s reputation, her sense of self and her life. I think most humans, including everyone on that jury, recognize that what Trump took from Carroll can’t be quantified. It just hurt.”But if Carroll’s story wasn’t easily slotted onto some universally understood, objective spectrum of sexual violence, that’s because there is no objective spectrum of sexual violence.

The problem with this approach is that most Republican voters do not want an alternative to Trump; they overwhelmingly back him. At least that’s what the Nikki Haley campaign said after finishing second to former President Donald Trump in the New Hampshire primaries on Tuesday. Democratic nominee Bill Clinton and third-party candidate Ross Perot exploited that division in the Republican Party against Bush in the fall. The Republican Party is united behind Trump, and with optimal conditions for an opponent like Haley, Trump was still unstoppable. “Democrats deserve options, and it’s not clear at all that President Biden can beat Donald Trump.

Early in José Saramago’s 2006 memoir, “Small Memories,” he tells readers that he briefly considered calling it “The Book of Temptations” instead. His reasons were characteristically elliptical and charming: something about Bosch, and sainthood, and the fat prostitute who “in a weary, indifferent voice” invited a 12-year-old Saramago up to her room. (He doesn’t report his answer, but given how candid the book is elsewhere, it’s safe to assume he declined.) In the end, though, he decided that the title “Small Memories” better suited the book’s contents: “nothing of great note,” in Saramago’s estimation; simply “the small memories of when I was small.”But for a great writer, of course, there are no small moments, and Saramago (1922-2010) was one of the best. Saramago’s memoir, which appeared in English translation the year before he died, is a winsome look back at his coming-of-age in the small village of Azinhaga and later in Lisbon.

The 31-year-old is responding "very well" but the recovery will be long and he must focus on the process, Lasmar told a press conference at Brazil's training center in Teresopolis. He knows that it's a process that he's going to need all of us, physiotherapist, fitness trainer, so that we can have Neymar (back) as soon as possible," said the doctor. Some warehousing operations as well as distribution, logistics and refrigeration businesses no longer fit into Femsa's strategy and may be sold, Fonseca said. Femsa's shares have surged more than 40% this year after shedding 4.8% in 2022. Femsa, which last year acquired Swiss kiosk operator Valora for $1.15 billion, plans to concentrate on its retail, bottling and financial technology (fintech) operations. Femsa is capitalizing on the ubiquity of its Oxxo stores by promoting fintech services in them, such as digital accounts and debit cards, Fonseca said. Musicians from the early-music ensemble Collectio Musicorum were practicing a 17th-century round on a recent afternoon in Manhattan. The tune was jaunty, full of the cantering rhythms and mimetic horn calls that fit a song about hunting. But sung in canon, some of the notes bumped roughly against one another in daring dissonance.
