Suni Lee held down the fort as the only American in Sunday's uneven bars final, earning a bronze and successfully defending her podium finish in Tokyo. Lee had very specific goals in mind for her Olympic encore: a team gold medal, an all-around podium finish, a bars medal and a gold medal on the balance beam. Her gold is the country's first Olympic medal in gymnastics and the first Olympic gymnastics medal for an African nation. The conflict involved contentions over where the uneven bars prodigy would train and allegations that Nemour’s coach was overworking the 17-year-old. Lee and Simone Biles will contend for a beam medal Monday, which is the final day of gymnastics in Paris.

Since Friday, the front developed from a potential tropical cyclone to a tropical depression, and it continues to draw strength from warm, tropical water. Tropical Storm Debby was expected to continue moving north at 15mph and hug Florida's west coast. The outer portions of a tropical system, which later became Tropical Storm Debby, saturates Fort Myers Beach, Fla., on Saturday. The named tropical storm designation means the front has sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph. The hurricane had sustained wind speeds of 75 miles per hour. Debby is the fourth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024. In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that there would be 17 to 25 named storms this year, an above-normal amount. Without El Niño this year, clouds are more likely to tower to the tall heights needed to sustain a powerful cyclone.

How Kentucky made electricity from 2001 to 2023 Percentage of power produced from each energy sourceCoal still generates the majority of the electricity produced in Kentucky, a longtime coal mining state. Since then, virtually all of the electricity produced in the state has come from renewable sources, including hydropower, biomass, wind and solar. It has supplied more than 85 percent of the electricity produced in the state every year for more than two decades. Last year, wind supplied more than a fifth of the electricity produced in the state.

What’s Uniting, and Dividing, Native Voters in ArizonaNative American voters were key to helping Democrats clinch Arizona in 2020. But in this election, many Native voters say they feel exhausted, disappointed and torn about how to vote. But overall it was frustration and anxiety that we heard as we talked with more than four dozen voters around Phoenix and on the Navajo Nation, the country’s largest reservation, about their concerns. Many voters felt like they had been left out of the state’s growing economy, with unemployment for Native Americans almost double the national average. Most of the voters we spoke to said no, but some were willing to give him another shot.

CNN —JD Vance is making a second pass at introducing himself to America as the Ohio senator attempts to put his uneven rollout as Donald Trump’s running mate in the rearview mirror. Vance is also expected to begin holding news conferences with reporters as early as this week, the source said. At a closed-door fundraiser in Oklahoma City last week, Trump’s finance team was hoping the former president’s new running mate would raise $1 million. The campaign was well aware of Vance’s past criticisms of Trump and the deeply anti-abortion views he vocally defended. Still, people close to both Trump and Vance argue that America has yet to learn how effective the Ohio senator can be when in the spotlight.

Oil prices slipped in early Asian trading on Tuesday, extending losses from the previous session, over concerns about Chinese demand and as the market shrugged off the risk of conflict escalating in the Middle East. Brent crude oil futures fell by 12 cents or 0.15% to $79.78 a barrel by 0033 GMT. The market is watching an upcoming meeting of China's top decision-making body, the Politburo, expected to take place this week, that could elicit further economic policy support. But expectations are limited after the Third Plenum, a key policy meeting in mid-July, largely reiterated existing economic policy goals and failed to lift market sentiment. Oil fell 2% in the previous trading session after Israel signaled that its response to a Hezbollah rocket strike in Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday would be calculated to avoid dragging the Middle East into an all-out war.

U.S. crude oil futures on Tuesday fell to the lowest levels since early June as worries about China's economy overshadow a new round of escalation in the Middle East. "Chinese economic turmoil, including sluggish growth and falling crude oil imports, is still a major driving force for our market," Varga said. Anadolu | Anadolu | Getty ImagesConsumers preparing to renew their homeowners insurance policy may experience some unexpected sticker shock. Between May 2022 and May 2023, home insurance prices rose an average of 21% at renewal time, according to Policygenius. A rise in catastrophic severe weather events contributed to this jump, experts say, and the rate of price increases is not expected to slow. Insurance companies "are not in the business of giving you money just because you need it, and they are not in the business of doing the right thing just because it feels like the right thing," Klein said. Fewer and pricier insurance options can prove to be a significant barrier to homeownership, experts say, as most mortgages require insurance.

"For too long our government has violated the cardinal rule that every bitcoiner knows by heart: Never sell your bitcoin," Trump said at this year's Bitcoin Conference in Nashville. Kennedy went further than Trump, promising to establish a 4 million bitcoin strategic reserve to match the country's current stake in gold, some of which is held near the military base at Fort Knox. But Trump's reservation speaks to the complications of promising a bitcoin strategic reserve on par with the gold standard. An executive order would not be enough to bring a U.S. bitcoin reserve into existence. That existing bitcoin stockpile could act as the foundation for the bitcoin strategic reserve, which the U.S. government would build on by regularly buying a certain number of bitcoin.

Oil prices were up slightly on Friday on stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data that raised investor expectations for increasing crude oil demand from the world's largest energy consumer. But concerns about soft economic conditions in Asia's biggest economies, China and Japan, capped gains. At the same time, inflation pressures eased, which kept intact expectations that the Federal Reserve would move forward with a September interest rate cut. Lower interest rates tend to boost economic activity, which can spur oil demand. Still, continued signs of trouble in parts of Asia limited oil price gains.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (AP) — A judge says controversial social media personality Andrew Tate’s defamation lawsuit against a Florida woman who accused him of imprisoning her in Romania can move forward, but he threw out Tate’s allegations against her parents and some allegations against the woman. Romanian officials indicted the Tates last year, saying the brothers forced seven victims into pornography and subjected them to physical violence. Her attorneys say the lawsuit is in retribution for her reporting him to authorities. Curley dismissed the Tates’ accusations that the woman’s parents defamed them when they told American diplomatic officials about their daughter’s allegations.
