Jane’s Addiction apologized to fans for the onstage altercation in Boston that saw singer Perry Farrell throwing a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro and abruptly ending their set. “We want to extend a heartfelt apology for the events that unfolded last night,” the band wrote in its Instagram story. Some fans reported on social media that tension looked to have been brewing for several songs before it got to the point of fisticuffs. The band has reformed several times over the years, usually without Avery, but clearly the tensions have continued. The band’s tour with Love and Rockets is scheduled to conclude in Los Angeles on October 16.

Read previewOffices have been the weak spot in the commercial real estate market since the pandemic gave rise to widespread remote work and caused companies to reassess how much space they need. The Federal Reserve's likely interest rate cut, expected at the end of its meeting on September 18, could give office owners some relief with lower interest rates when they refinance. But that doesn't mean they're in the clear, according to commercial real estate experts. Right now, most commercial real estate loans come from small, regional banks, but that could change. AdvertisementYet even with the weakness in the office market, lower interest rates are a net positive for the industry, economist Richard McGahey says.

AdvertisementIt's a story all too familiar for some older Americans: An unexpected health crisis derails their retirement planning. With insufficient help from health insurance or Social Security, medical bills eat up any savings or income they have. Jones, who gets $2,200 a month in Social Security, has had to take on part-time work, which made her ineligible for some federal assistance. She paid for chemo out of pocket, spending her way through her retirement savings and maxing out her credit cards. CNN —The United States reclaimed the Solheim Cup for the first time in seven years with a 15 ½ - 12 ½ victory over the Europeans on Sunday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. Team USA last won the Solheim Cup in 2017 with Europe winning in 2019 and 2021 before retaining the trophy in 2023 when the teams drew 14-14. 1 Nelly Korda led the USA’s challenge, winning both her matches as the USA underlined its dominance. While Europe looked to fight back on day two, Team USA constantly prevented the Europeans from clawing back the deficit and held on to lead 10-6 after the second day. Eight states will have constitutional amendments backed by Republican lawmakers on the November ballot designed to make clear that only American citizens can vote in elections in those states. But it’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote in elections in those states and at the federal level, and it rarely happens. Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, has long made false claims that noncitizens are voting in elections and that Democrats have helped them enter the country to cast those ballots. No state constitution in the U.S. allows noncitizens to vote. While Americans for Citizen Voting said it has no formal or informal relationship with the Trump campaign or the RNC, its chairman, Paul Jacob, said at a recent press conference that he hopes the ballot measures will help improve voter turnout.

Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, reported similar consumer headwinds during its quarterly earnings this month. "What we noticed was an even tighter core consumer at the very last week of each of the months in Q2," he said. In fact, the Biden administration recently imposed its own set of tariffs, while extending ones first levied during the Trump administration. Take the tariffs the Trump Administration imposed on washing machines in 2018. The washing machine tariffs were part of a broad new tariff regime Trump imposed in an effort to protect American workers from anti-competitive Chinese trade practices. It resulted in what is generally viewed as a “trade war” involving retaliatory tariffs imposed on American goods. The White House gave a rationale similar to the Trump administration when it announced its tariffs.

Hong Kong CNN —For decades, Chinese workers have wrapped up their working lives at relatively young ages: 60 for men and as early as 50 for women. The announcement sparked immediate widespread discussion – and backlash – across Chinese social media. Some social media users appeared encouraged that the changes weren’t more drastic and included some flexibility. Major protests erupted in France in 2023 in response to a government attempt to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Even for those of working age, employment remains a steep challenge following the pandemic and a raft of government-led industry crackdowns in recent years.

If it expires, the estate and gift tax exemption will fall by about half. The tightening presidential race has touched off a wave of tax planning by ultra-wealthy investors, especially given fears of a higher estate tax, according to advisors and tax attorneys. With Harris and Trump essentially tied in the polls, the odds have increased that the estate tax benefits will expire — either through gridlock or tax hikes. The biggest question facing wealthy families is how much to give, and when, in advance of any estate tax change. If they do nothing, and the estate exemption drops, they risk owing taxes on estates over $14 million if they die.

"I mean, is this what he thinks free speech is all about?" At the time, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called Musk an "arrogant billionaire who thinks he is above the law." The Australian regulator later dropped its legal effort after a federal court refused to extend a temporary order to block the graphic content.

Low-income families who are robbed of their grocery funds may no longer get reimbursed if Congress doesn’t act by Sept. 30. Since late 2022, states have been authorized to use federal dollars to pay back victims of SNAP skimming thanks to a provision passed by lawmakers. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Md., who has advocated on behalf of SNAP skimming victims for years. “It’s frustrating and, frankly, very confusing that they don’t view this as a priority.”Despite the directive expiring, SNAP skimming continues to be a pervasive problem.
