WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson took a dig at Obamacare during an event in Pennsylvania on Monday, telling a crowd there will be “massive” health care changes in America if Donald Trump wins the election. “No Obamacare,” Johnson responded, rolling his eyes. And so health care is one of the sectors and we need this across the board,” Johnson said. Johnson, who has crisscrossed the country to campaign for GOP House candidates, spoke only in broad terms at his Monday event. “If you take government bureaucrats out of the health care equation and you have doctor-patient relationships, it’s better for everybody.

Former President Donald Trump’s promises that he’ll win New York are more empty bluster than evidence-based prediction. Two statewide Siena polls have also shown Trump performing better than his 2020 vote share in New York State as a whole. But overall, these races include the most competitive around New York State, and all but the 18th are currently represented in Congress by a Republican. Democrats are not concerned about the top of the ticket, but for those down ballot — where Democrats lost five competitive House races here in 2022 — this election is a chance to earn back what was once theirs. “Progressive state issues like bail reform and congestion pricing remain challenging for Democrats in the New York suburbs,” longtime New York Republican operative Matt Coleman said.

He’s not Hitler,” former first lady Melania Trump said in an interview Tuesday on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” when asked how she feels about people comparing Trump to the Nazi leader. “The newest line from Kamala and her campaign is that everyone who isn’t voting for her is a Nazi,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Atlanta. I’m the opposite of a Nazi.”Reached for comment Tuesday, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Trump is "correct." Tim Walz, said at an event in Henderson, Nevada, on Sunday that there was “a direct parallel” between Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally and the Nazi event. A Trump campaign spokesperson denied the reports, as did the former president, saying that he never made positive comments about Hitler.

“You need real young people,” said Austin, the founder of ForwardBlue. He says he’s devoted as much time as possible to politics since then, postponing college and deprioritizing typical adolescent activities. “I spent every minute I could after school volunteering for my state party, building websites for Democrats, doing whatever I could,” he said. What sets the group apart from other Democratic groups trying to reach young people is not just its message, Austin said, but how it delivers it. “The rent is too damn high,” Austin said, referring to a political moment that went viral when he was in first grade.

WASHINGTON — The last time Steve Bannon was a free man, Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. Randilee Giamusso, a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson, confirmed that Bannon was released. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols — himself a Trump appointee — ordered Bannon in June to report to prison by July 1. Just days after Bannon reported to prison, Biden announced his decision to drop out of the race, and Harris became the Democratic nominee. Peter Navarro, a former White House official, was also convicted of contempt of Congress and served a four-month sentence, as well.

But state officials resisted his pressure, judges tossed out his team’s lawsuits, and Pence defied Trump and carried out his constitutional duty to affirm the result of the vote. If Trump sought to challenge the election results, he would have two potential paths to try to overturn the results, and both routes are “long shots,” said Hasen, director of the Safeguarding Democracy Project at UCLA Law School. Given the heightened security risk, some state officials have made plans to scrap public, high-profile ceremonies to certify election results in state capitols. Election officials across the country also have bolstered security at polling places, including expanding police presence and issuing bulletproof vests to election workers. State officials resisted.

They argue that Casey, a middle-of-the-road liberal, had previously not been at the forefront of the populist economic turn in both parties. Casey’s Senate website dedicates an entire page to “greedflation,” which he also discussed at length in his speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer. The core of Casey’s argument is the assertion that, from July 2020 to July 2022, corporate profits rose five times faster than overall inflation. Harris will call on Americans to “turn the page” on the Trump era and present herself as a pragmatist who will put results over party, according to a senior Harris campaign official who requested anonymity. Her campaign aims to invoke Jan. 6 as a way to remind those voters what they don’t like about Trump. President Donald Trump arrives to speak to supporters from the Ellipse near the White House on Jan. 6, 2021. Highlighting Kelly’s remarks about Trump’s authoritarian inclinations helped Harris among those crucial voters, the firm said in a memo, but by less than the economic-focused pitches. Her campaign hopes it will be seen as a hopeful and optimistic address with imagery of the White House behind her.

Voters across the country are set to decide on nearly 150 ballot measures next week that will shape the future of a wide variety of policy issues in their states. In Arizona, likely voters are split over which candidate cares more about people like them (45% say Harris does, 41% Trump). The gap is even wider in Nevada, where 71% of Democratic-leaning likely voters are very confident compared with 16% of Republican-aligned likely voters. It’s a crucial trend that undercuts one of the biggest arguments Republicans have used to hammer Democrats over the cost of living. Although gas prices are down and the rate of inflation has cooled sharply, consumers are still hurting from years of price hikes. After Russia invaded Ukraine, oil prices skyrocketed due to fears of massive supply disruptions. Drivers rolling up to gas stations in some battleground states are enjoying significant price drops, including Nevada (79 cents cheaper than a year ago), Arizona (78 cents cheaper), Pennsylvania (36 cents cheaper) and Wisconsin (32 cents cheaper). But for now the markets appear to be bracing for muted prices, a situation that should keep a lid on gas prices.

For Democrats, President Joe Biden dominated the primaries and faced only token opposition. Vice President Kamala Harris speaks as former President Donald Trump listens during a presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on September 10, 2024. Trump was accused by the Justice Department of election interference after he tried to overturn the 2020 election results. The most populous states are California (54 electoral votes), Texas (40 electoral votes) and Florida (30 electoral votes). The total number of electoral votes, 538, is an even number, which means a tie is conceivable.

And the legal challenges could continue for weeks or months to come. The legal team also relies on a team of advisers, including longtime Biden lawyer Bob Bauer, who advises on litigation strategy and voter protection, and former US Solicitors General Don Verrilli and Seth Waxman. In addition, the Harris legal team is supported by a “field counsel” program that coordinates with local firms in each state that can provide specialized knowledge about election law and procedures in each jurisdiction. Sources close to the Trump legal team say they have not only focused on recruiting legal firepower but on identifying viable legal challenges. “What we have to do is protect every voter and every vote, which is what we’re doing,” said Remus, of the Harris legal team.

The hackers also targeted prominent Democrats including the staff of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, another source briefed on the matter told CNN. There are no indications anyone was able to access data related to Jared Kushner or his devices, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. The Trump campaign is operating under the assumption that the hackers could still have access to the phone communications they targeted that belong to Trump and Vance, two of the sources said. Given how pervasive the Chinese hacking campaign has been in US telecom networks, some US allies are checking their own computer networks for signs of compromise. The ongoing Chinese hacking campaign means that the next administration — whether Trump or Harris wins — will likely inherit another major cybersecurity incident with big implications for national security.

CNN —A federal judge on Tuesday tossed out a Republican lawsuit that sought to segregate overseas ballots in Pennsylvania for additional vetting. The overseas vote has long been viewed as sacrosanct because of its connection to the military vote, and the Pennsylvania lawsuit – which would have jeopardized the ballots of service people abroad – drew a sharp backlash. He cited other procedural issues with Republicans’ lawsuit as well. In the Pennsylvania case, the Republicans were arguing that election officials should take additional steps to verify ballots cast in the state from overseas voters. But they both hover around two possibilities, which aren't mutually exclusive:AdvertisementTheory 1: Twitter is showing users what users want to see. And it's entirely plausible that some left-leaning users have left the platform during Musk's ownership, in part because he reinstated accounts from right-leaning users, including Trump himself. This is a notion that some current and former Twitter users believe, though there's no direct proof that it's the case.

But equally important, in their view, was its ability to evoke the promise of the office she seeks. That was not the original intent of Harris’ major address, aides said, but they believe it serves as a timely rebuttal. A permit for the event showed as many as 20,000 people were expected to attend, with spillover onto the National Mall – her first major campaign speech outdoors in Washington. Last week, the leading super PAC supporting Harris’ candidacy raised concerns that the Harris campaign was too closely centering its closing message on calling Trump a fascist.
