LONDON, March 13 (Reuters) - King Charles drew on his mother's inspiration on Monday as he celebrated his first Commonwealth Day as symbolic head of the grouping with a service at London's Westminster Abbey, joined by other senior members of the British royal family. "The Commonwealth has been a constant in my own life, and yet its diversity continues to amaze and inspire me." The 74-year-old king was joined for the service by his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, and his eldest son Prince William and his wife Kate. Britain's Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, reacts as she, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Queen Camilla and King Charles attend the state funeral and burial of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, in London, Britain, September 19, 2022. King Charles III's office has been in touch with Prince Harry about the new monarch's coronation, raising the possibility the prince will attend the historic ceremony despite tensions within the royal family. A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, confirmed Sunday that Harry had received "email correspondence'' from the king's office about the coronation. Camilla was once reviled for her long-term affair with Charles, which contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to the late Prince Diana, Harry and William's mother. Harry, meanwhile, continues to share his personal experiences and critique of the royal family as he promotes his book.

Charles will follow some of his famous forebears, such as King Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and his own mother Elizabeth II, in being crowned on the chair. It has featured in coronation ceremonies since 1308, and has been the chair used to crown monarchs since Henry IV in 1399, the Abbey says. "The coronation chair is extremely fragile. It has a complex layer structure which means that the gilding layers on it often flake off," Blessley said.

LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Roald Dahl's famous children's books including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Matilda" will be published uncensored later this year said publisher Puffin, bowing to pressure after a public outcry over modernised versions. Puffin, which is part of United States-based publisher Penguin Random House, said on Friday that it would release 17 of Dahl's titles under its Penguin logo later this year, with his original text unchanged. "By making both Puffin and Penguin versions available, we are offering readers the choice to decide how they experience Roald Dahl's magical, marvellous stories," Penguin Random House Children's managing director Francesca Dow said in a statement. Dahl's stinging and quirky descriptions of the adult antagonists, like Miss Trunchbull in "Matilda", have delighted young readers for decades. Puffin publishes Dahl's works, including "James and the Giant Peach" and "The Witches" in partnership with the Roald Dahl Story Company.

The Italian Renaissance has long been presented as a procession of male power players, from artists like Michelangelo to arts patrons like banker-statesman Lorenzo de’ Medici. But that view is set for a corrective this month, when Florence’s Uffizi Galleries mounts a comprehensive show at Pitti Palace about Eleonora di Toledo (1522–1562), the Florentine duchess who ruled the Tuscan roost for a few decades, overseeing a makeover of the city’s historic core south of the Arno that still shapes it today. Bringing together a host of splendid objects, from cameos to textiles to paintings, Eleonora di Toledo and the Invention of the Medici Court in Florence runs through May 14 in the vast palace, which Eleonora brought into the Medici orbit and then ornamented with the Boboli Gardens park just beyond. Eike Schmidt , the Uffizi director, describes Eleonora as the true “manager of the Medici court.” She acted as a consort and frequent regent for her husband, Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici, a descendant of Lorenzo’s.

ABOYNE, Scotland, Jan 12 (Reuters) - King Charles made his first public appearance on Thursday since the release of his son Prince Harry's tell-all memoir and accompanying TV interviews in which he made a series of accusations against the British royal family. In his book "Spare", Harry divulges that he had begged his father not to marry his second wife Camilla, now the queen consort. The book also delivered numerous other revelations, including that elder brother and heir to the throne William had knocked him over during a heated argument. Later on Thursday, William and his wife Kate, who he also criticises in his book, will make their first appearances since the memoir's release. So far, neither Buckingham Palace nor any of the royals have commented on Harry's disclosures.
“There was a new low every few minutes,” Harry wrote of the time after their relationship went public in November 2016. Prince Harry and Prince William at the unveiling of a statue of their mother, Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in London on July 1, 2021. “I don’t think Harry and Megan’s public image is repairable in the U.K.; I think it’s gone beyond that,” she added. Regardless of the danger he felt his family was in, and the disappointment with his family, Harry said he would “forever support my queen, my Commander in Chief, my Granny. Even after she’s gone.”“My problem has never been with the monarchy, or the concept of monarchy.
Harry's book "Spare" has garnered attention around the world with its disclosures about his personal struggles and its accusations about other royals, including his father King Charles, stepmother Camilla and elder brother Prince William. "I know perhaps some of the things he says have rubbed different people the wrong way," Lai Jiang told Reuters after buying a copy in Singapore. The royal family has not commented on the book or the interviews and is unlikely to do so. While Harry's revelations have dominated the headlines in the British media over the last week, the interest in his disclosures is far from universal. At the heart of Harry and Meghan's narrative is that Britain's sensationalist popular press is a "devil" that members of the royal family have colluded with to protect or enhance their own reputations. The royal family have been here before, though. "That said, you could argue it only reinforces the victim narrative from Harry and Meghan in America," the former aide said. "The one thing the royal family has on its side is time. So it can play the long game - which Harry and Meghan maybe can't, in that they have to be telling their story now."
"The moment that that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me, other members of my family, then that's where I draw the line." Harry said he didn't think his father or brother would read his book. Harry told ITV he wanted reconciliation with his family members but said they had shown no interest, giving the impression it was better to keep him and Meghan as villains. "My father said to me that it was probably a suicide mission to try and change the press," he said. "There was a motto, a family motto of 'never complain, never explain'. There was a lot of complaining and there was a lot of explaining and it continues now. "But the moment that that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me, other members of my family, then that's where I draw the line." "But the day that she died was just a really, really horrible reaction from my family members." Maybe that's lofty, maybe that's naive, whatever.
However, in the age of Apaches and laptops, everything I did in the course of two tours of duty was recorded and time-stamped,” Harry writes. The disagreement came at a planned reconciliatory tea at Kensington Palace in June 2018, Harry writes. According to the book, Kate told Meghan: “You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!”According to Harry, Meghan recalled the conversation but was perplexed at Kate's reaction. Harry writes: "What I do remember with stunning clarity is that I did not cry.
