I moved to Washington, DC, after living in rural Pennsylvania for 23 years. The work culture was a bit intense, but I loved how much there was to do after work and on weekends. Although I loved discovering what people do for a living, work culture is often prioritized over everything else.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, kicking off Election Day in one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference. By tradition, all eligible voters gather at the now-dormant Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch to cast their secret ballots once polls open at midnight. Once every ballot is cast, votes are tallied and results announced – hours before anywhere else, making it a destination for national reporters, who often outnumber the voters. In January, four registered Republican voters and two independents participated in the GOP primary, casting six unanimous votes for former South Carolina Gov. CNN’s Gary Tuchman, Eva McKend, Ethan Cohen, Molly English, Gregory Krieg and Eric Bradner contributed to this report.

LONDON British telecom firms Vodafone and Three's multibillion-pound merger could go ahead if the companies adopt a series of proposed remedies to clear competition concerns, regulators said Tuesday. Vodafone has previously said that the combined entity, once merged, would invest £11 billion ($14.46 billion) into U.K. telecommunications infrastructure. Vodafone has also said it disagrees with earlier findings from the CMA that the merger would lead to price increases for consumers. It says the merger wouldn't pricing strategy and would enhance competition between mobile virtual network operators, or MVNOs. They show that neither Harris nor Trump have broken out in the swing states. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin will likely determine whether Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump wins. The final set of New York Times/Siena College surveys of each state showed Harris narrowly leading among likely voters in Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, while Harris and Trump are tied in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden in 2020 won Georgia by a razor-thin margin, while Trump narrowly won North Carolina that year. Harris is winning female voters by 16 points (57% to 41%), according to the final NBC News poll.

Whoever wins the 2024 U.S. election should work to preserve America's energy dominance rather than risk losing it, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne told CNBC on Monday. The U.S. is the world's largest oil producer, accounting for 22% of the global total, according to the Energy Information Administration, with Saudi Arabia next, producing 11%. The vast majority of U.S. crude is consumed within the country, which is also the world's largest oil consumer. Roughly 64% of total U.S. crude oil production is shale and the French international energy firm CEO said the U.S. will also soon be No. Looking ahead to the election, former President Donald Trump and the Republican party have long been proponents of U.S. shale production, pushing for deregulation of the industry and an expansion of drilling projects — drawing the ire of climate activists and many on the left.

The only thing that matters is getting to 270 electoral votes through the Electoral College. Meanwhile, 219 electoral votes seem to be leaning in the former president’s direction. Closing off the ‘blue wall’Looking at those battleground states, Harris has the easier path than Trump to getting to 270 electoral votes. CNN —Pre-election voting is winding down across the country, with many states wrapping up in-person early voting over the weekend. While overall pre-election voting is down, in some states more voters chose to vote in person early than they did in 2020. However, total pre-election voting in both states was still lower than in 2020 due to significantly fewer people choosing to vote by mail. Republicans grow their pre-election vote shareRepublicans have made up more of the pre-election vote than they did in 2020. The Trump campaign made more of an effort this year to encourage Republicans to vote early and by mail, a major shift from messaging against pre-election voting in 2020.

With Election Day around the corner, there's been just shy of $1 billion spent on political ads up and down the ballot in the last week, data from the ad-tracking firm AdImpact shows. The most expensive race over the last week is, unsurprisingly, the presidential race, where more than $272 million has been spent on ads, according to data from AdImpact. There's been more than $267 million spent on ads in down-ballot races, meaning all of the other races outside of races for president, governor and Congress. One other down-ballot race saw more than $10 million in ad spending over the last week: California's referendum on rent control. Governors races have had just $18 million in ad spending in the last week, thanks to a relative lack of competitive races this cycle.

When asked why, a Trump campaign official put it bluntly. “If there’s one state that could bite you in the a--, it’s North Carolina,” the official said. Yet he’s made a plan of returning to North Carolina each day until the election. While Harris campaign aides on social media chided Trump for holding a defensive posture in a state that hasn’t gone blue since 2008, the Trump campaign cast the repeated visits to North Carolina as an aggressive, cover-all-the-bases strategy. “North Carolina, I’m here to ask for your vote.

And notably, 69% of female respondents in the Selzer poll opposed the law, while only 27% of Iowa women backed the new restrictions. Abigail Spanberger decided against seeking a fourth term, instead launching a campaign for governor in 2025. Democratic Rep.
