New York CNN —Office work has become a far less rigid affair in the era of remote collaboration and hybrid schedules. (Just ask me, I’m writing this in bed while wearing a hoodie and yoga pants on a Monday afternoon.) But a lot of companies haven’t updated their scripts when it comes to delivering hard news to their employees. And in both cases, the fired employees funneled their anger toward a social media audience that would have their backs. “The comments were right — it was scripted … I just basically read it, it wasn’t sincere,” she says in her second apology video.

A video of a woman filming herself getting laid off from Cloudflare went viral on Tiktok. Over the last year, we've seen similar TikToks of people filming themselves getting laid off. AdvertisementA trend on TikTok that's been simmering for a while but really went mainstream this week has been people (mostly young women) filming themselves getting laid off from their corporate tech jobs. Last week, one in particular made headlines as the young woman getting laid off from CloudFlare pushed back at the HR rep leading the call. It won't necessarily stop you from getting laid off if the ax falls on your department, but demystifying the process is good for workers.

"Starting today, Google Cloud customers who wish to stop using Google Cloud and migrate their data to another cloud provider and/or on premises, can take advantage of free network data transfer to migrate their data out of Google Cloud," Amit Zavery, a Google cloud vice president, wrote in the post. In 2018, Cloudflare announced the Bandwidth Alliance, a group of companies, including some cloud providers, that reduce or eliminate those data transfer, or egress, fees. "Restrictive licensing practices remain a far bigger issue to customers who want the choice of working with their preferred cloud provider," the spokesperson said. By making transfer free, Google could be pressuring rivals to follow suit or risk losing out on new business prospects. Last year Google expressed concerns about Microsoft's cloud practices to officials in the U.S. and the European Union.

A few days ago, S & P noted that the S & P 500 total return of 25.85% would only be up 9.49% ex the Magnificent 7. If you own the S & P 500 long-term, you are participating in those gains. The S & P is up 1,200 points (25%) since then and is knocking on the door of an historic high. The S & P 500 is overbought and expensive on most metrics. WASHINGTON (AP) — Some K-12 public schools are racing to improve protection against the threat of online attacks, but lax cybersecurity means thousands of others are vulnerable to ransomware gangs that can steal confidential data and disrupt operations. Neuberger said more districts need to take advantage of programs available that would better guard against online attackers who are increasingly targeting schools. The administration announced steps over the summer to help cash-strapped schools, which have been slow to build up cybersecurity defenses. Since August, roughly 140 districts in 32 states have signed up for the program, which provides free email security and other online threat protection, she said. James Hatz, technology coordinator for Rush City Public Schools in Minnesota, said the program arrived just in time for their district, quickly stopping 100 suspicious emails from getting to staff.

Internet connectivity in Gaza is plummeting. AdvertisementAdvertisementGaza's already flimsy internet connectivity has been severely impacted by Israel's strikes, according to several outage-detection models. Last Friday, NetBlocks, a watchdog organization that monitors the governance of the internet, noted a steep decline in Gaza's internet connectivity. Fatafta said ordinary Palestinians were able to use social media to challenge some of the messaging coming from the Israel side. The cybercrime group has made a ransom demand to MGM as well, those sources told CNBC's Contessa Brewer. The 8-K report, similar to one filed by MGM Resorts on Wednesday, acknowledges the hack as a material event. The cybercrime group demanded a $30 million ransom from Caesars, but the company ultimately agreed to pay about half that, sources said. Bloomberg previously reported the ransom and that the same group is behind the attacks on both companies. It wasn't immediately clear why Caesars delayed filing the report disclosing the hack and ransom for weeks.
