Recent reports have shown only around 9% of the world’s plastic is recycled, a figure that’s even lower in the US, around 5 to 6%. HSBC in a Sept. 17 report examined the relationship between Fed rate cuts and copper and aluminum prices over the past 30 years. In its base case, Citi sees copper prices averaging $9,000 per ton for the rest of this year, citing U.S. election uncertainty and weak manufacturing sentiment. Energy Citi anticipates that oil will suffer renewed price weakness in 2025, with Brent falling to around $60 a barrel. Based on what happened in 2019, trade tariffs lowered global oil demand growth by 0.2 million barrels a day. A slowdown in China, among the world's largest importer and consumer of oil, has been blamed on slowing global oil demand.

☆ Sanctioned tankers are back to transporting Russian oil in a blow to the West's efforts to restrict crude flows

The nation loaded at least 17 cargoes of oil and oil products onto ships sanctioned by the West. Another 20 sanctioned ships are still idling by Russia's coasts and ports, the outlet said. A dozen sanctioned ships were known to load Russian crude and crude products in August and September, up from just one sanctioned ship recorded in April, the outlet reported. Another 20 sanctioned tankers are known to be idling near Russia's coasts or anchored at Russian ports, the report added. Falling crude prices also appear to be hitting Russia's oil trade.
