CNN —A new official portrait of King Charles III that will hang in public buildings in the United Kingdom has been unveiled. Public bodies such as courts, schools and councils can request free oak-framed copies of the portrait, which was taken by photographer Hugo Burnand. British photographer Burnand has long held close ties to the royal family, taking official pictures at Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation. He also took the official photos for both Charles and Camilla’s wedding in 2005, and William and Catherine’s wedding in 2011. “Official portraits of Queen Elizabeth II are currently on display in many public institutions, and the offering of the new official portrait of King Charles III will enable organisations across the UK to carry on that tradition,” the UK Cabinet Office said in a press statement last year.

CNN —The Biden administration is expected to re-designate the Houthis as a specially designated global terrorist (SDGT) entity amid continued attacks by the Yemen-based militia, a source familiar told CNN Tuesday. The administration removed the Houthis’ SDGT designation and de-listed it as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) in February 2021, after it was designated by the Trump administration in its final weeks. Both the SDGT and FTO designations trigger an asset freeze, but only an FTO designation imposes immigration restrictions on members, according to the State Department. The situation at the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza is deteriorating as Israeli troops advance toward the facility, according to journalists in the complex speaking to CNN Tuesday. In an audio message sent from the hospital, journalist Mahmoud Al-Sabbah said the facility was surrounded. Another journalist at the hospital, Anas Al-Sharif, told CNN “the situation is very difficult.”He said there was artillery fire and airstrikes within the immediate vicinity. “The entire medical system has collapsed inside the hospital, and whoever gets injured ends as a martyr inside the hospital,” Al Sharif said. CNN cannot verify the number of casualties at the hospital, where an unknown number of displaced civilians are also taking shelter.

The soldiers refused to listen.”The men had their rifles aimed at Tarek Abu Abed, and shouting can be heard. Diaa Abu Abed said that an onlooker called him, and he arrived on the scene soon after. The Wexner Foundation said it’s breaking off ties with Harvard University, alleging the school has been “tiptoeing” over Hamas’ attacks. Lawrence Summers, the former president of Harvard and US Treasury Secretary, has criticized the “morally unconscionable” student statement and Harvard leaders’ response. But he said that financial threats from donors were not the right solution to influencing universities’ positions on these issues. Organizers of the Palestine Writes festival denied that it embraced antisemitism, according to UPenn student newspaper The Daily Pennsylvanian.

Donors understand as well as anyone that pulling their funds won’t inflict significant financial damage on Ivy League institutions, which boast huge endowments, my colleague Nathaniel Meyersohn reports. But he said that financial threats from donors were not the right solution to influencing universities’ positions on these issues. At 5 million subscribers paying $3.99 a month, Snapchat+ is set to earn around $239 million in annual revenue. Still, analysts are intrigued by Snap’s user growth, especially for a company that’s been around for over a decade. “In my view, there’s significant value for a company that’s growing its installed base at this level,” said Angelo Zino, senior equity analyst at CFRA Research.

Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority canceled a planned meeting with Biden less than 24 hours before he was supposed to meet them for a four-way summit in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Wednesday. The cancellation followed a massive blast in Gaza’s Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital that reportedly killed hundreds of Palestinians. Palestinian officials blamed Israel for the hospital blast, while Israeli officials said it was caused by a misfired Islamic Jihad rocket. Egypt on Wednesday declared three days of mourning for the Gaza hospital victims. Israel ruled Gaza from 1967 to 2005 and it settled Jews there during that period.

In Gaza, the call or text alerts are far from guaranteed and – at most – give residents a few minutes to evacuate. These warning systems are able to calculate the location where a rocket is projected to land and set off a siren in the targeted area, often giving residents advance notice to find shelter. With far less resources, Gaza hasn’t built anything comparable to the Israeli defense systems.

New York CNN —Over 75,000 Kaiser Permanente unionized employees walked off the job Wednesday in the largest health care worker strike in US history. One of the largest health care organizations in the country, Kaiser has 12.7 million members, according to the company. As a bus driver for the Orange County Transportation Authority, “I need those legs to drive,” Signorio told CNN Tuesday, citing the long wait for care. Michael Signorio, a Kaiser Permanente member, talked about the effects of the ongoing strike with CNN's Natasha Chen on October 4. During the last few months most of his doctors appointments have been rescheduled and overall everything has been very slow,” Fidel Vasquez told CNN over email.

At least some of the parties are alleged to have occurred while Jeffries was the CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch.
