At Portland International Airport (PDX), they’ve spent big money aiming to bring the famed Oregon outdoors indoors. The $2.15 billion renovation has several purposes, according to Allison Ferre, media relations manager with the Port of Portland, which runs PDX. What PDX passengers will seeThe airport is attempting to provide an arboreal atmosphere with big trees and a lots of natural sunlight streaming into the overhauled terminal. Ema PeterOne of the first things passengers might notice will be 72 large trees, including black walnut, ficus and olive varieties, disbursed throughout the terminal, Port of Portland said. “PDX is the first and last impression for many of our visitors and the renovation of the main terminal is certain to make it a positive one,” Travel Portland President and CEO Jeff Miller said.

Now, though, it’s being blamed for prompting an airline to remove a popular food from its inflight offerings. Korean Air has announced that from August 15, it will no longer serve ramyeon instant noodles to passengers traveling in economy class on long-haul flights. “In the case of ramyeon service, burn accidents occur frequently due to hot water,” the airline said in a press release. Korean Air said that the move was “part of a proactive measure” that is “aimed at preventing burn accidents.”“To enhance passenger satisfaction and diversify snack options, a self-service snack bar is also available on long-haul flights. In some cases, pilots will tell flight attendants to stop serving hot food or drinks during turbulent periods.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti CNN —Security forces protecting Haiti’s leader provided covering fire as he left a hospital in Port-au-Prince after an interview with CNN, in a stark illustration of the violence that continues to plague the gang-ravaged nation. Conille initially proceeded with the interview and did not remark on the gunfire — which is not an unusual thing to hear in Port-au-Prince. No one was injured and the prime minister was safely returned to his office. In May, Conille was appointed prime minister during the government’s transition period, with the aim to eventually lead Haiti to new elections. Amateur buildEngineer Ashok Aliseril spent 18 months building a four-seater plane during the pandemic, helped by his daughter. Aliseril briefly considered buying an older aircraft, and looked at some that had been built in the 1960s and 1970s. After researching self-assembly aircraft kits, he came across a four-seater plane manufactured by South African company Sling Aircraft that ticked all the right boxes. “I would say generally, anyone can get involved in these sorts of builds.”Lockdown projectHe built a shed in his garden to complete the build. Although he’d initially planned to hire a workshop to construct the aircraft, Aliseril feels that creating a workspace at his home was the better choice.
