The cargo ship Dali sits in the water after running into and collapsing the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. Engineers in Maryland on Saturday began lifting a piece of Francis Scott Key Bridge out of the waterway in Baltimore, the first step in a long process to reopen the city's shipping port. "I cannot stress enough how important today and the first movement of this bridge and the wreckage is," said Gov. To execute the first lift of the bridge on Saturday, engineers cut a piece of the bridge to make it manageable for their crane. "Our economy depends on the Port of Baltimore and the Port of Baltimore depends on vessel traffic."

It is entirely possibly that millions of Americans encountered false claims about the bridge collapse when they woke up Tuesday morning before ever seeing the facts. Politics is everythingWhat is perhaps most notable about how quickly and widely conspiracy theories about a breaking news story spread is just how normal this all is right now. Jewish space lasersAs news unfolded on Tuesday, the conspiracy theories continued. Greene has not weighed in on the cause of the bridge collapse. Jewish space lasers were not responsible for the wildfires, nor the Baltimore bridge collapse.

The other day, a friend of mine liked one of my LinkedIn posts. AdvertisementWhy LinkedIn feels so cringeAs much as LinkedIn is a professional platform, something about it feels really personal. There's a reason social-media accounts like Best of LinkedIn, which pokes fun at over-the-top LinkedIn posts, exist. Given the weakness of the official advice, I decided to ask a bunch of people for tips on how to post in a non-cringe way on LinkedIn. I also asked a pair of social-media managers — one at Business Insider and one at a different company — for their thoughts on LinkedIn posting.

Biden is making his pitch in a critical swing state that's part of the “blue wall” trio of states — Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania — where he defeated Republican President Donald Trump in 2020. More than 33,000 vehicles travel on the Blatnik Bridge every day, but heavy trucks are barred from it because of its decaying condition. The money comes from a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that Biden signed into law more than two years ago. The Democratic moves have been able to help offset Republican gains made in rural areas during the Trump era. ... HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders hired Tom Telesco on Tuesday as their next general manager, passing over interim Champ Kelly for the position. Kelly could remain as the assistant general manager, the position he held under Dave Ziegler, who was fired Oct. 31. Kelly then was given the interim title and was believed to be a strong candidate to get the job full time. Telesco, 51, comes from the AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers, where he was the general manager since 2013. Las Vegas also could stay put and perhaps select Washington's Michael Penix Jr. if he's still on the draft board.

His death ignited widespread calls for police reform in Baltimore and led the U.S. Department of Justice to open an investigation into the agency. As a result of those findings, the department entered into a consent decree with federal prosecutors in 2017 that outlines a series of mandated reform measures. Prosecutors acknowledged the department's progress in a joint motion filed Tuesday, saying the agency had complied with two sections of the decree. The department has achieved full compliance with 25% of the paragraphs contained in the consent decree, while another 60% have been deemed to be on track to compliance, officials said. “Reform and accountability go hand in hand with law enforcement productivity,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott.

The Jim Harbaugh derby for NFL teams is about to heat up. A week after leading the University of Michigan to a national title in the College Football Playoff, Harbaugh will meet with the Los Angeles Chargers about their head coach vacancy this week, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. Harbaugh, who previously coached in the NFL, has a prior relationship with the Chargers and the Spanos family that owns it. To prepare for a possible NFL return, Harbaugh recently hired Don Yee as his new agent. Despite leading Michigan to its first national title since 1997, it was a frustrating year for Harbaugh.

If your office culture allows or even encourages working outside of business hours, it can be hard to disconnect. Even if your PTO isn't for a few weeks, "right now" is the best time to remind your managers and colleagues you'll be out, Smith says. Here's how to disconnect from work this holiday season:Remind your boss now, and then remind them againYour manager probably doesn't remember exactly what days you'll be gone. "Just say, 'As a reminder it's Wednesday and Friday is my last day in the office,'" Smith says. There are two types of people who work during the holidays even if they don't have to, says Brandon Smith, a career coach and therapist known as The Workplace Therapist. "It's a way to prove their self-worth. The second might have a hard time setting boundaries and telling people 'no.' Whether you're the former or the latter, you have to accept that your co-workers might have different priorities than you, especially during the holidays. Fortunately, there are ways to get through this period while valuing other peoples' time and your own.

When you think of office holiday party faux pas, drinking too much is probably the first one that comes to mind, says Brandon Smith, a career coach and therapist known as The Workplace Therapist. However, there's another common, but less stigmatized, mistake many people make at their end-of-year celebrations, he says: talking about work. "I would avoid talking about work at the holiday party," Smith says. 'Use this as an opportunity to socialize about topics that are non-business'Office parties are usually, by design, not in the office. Anything that is not specific to work projects.

AdvertisementRelocating is a major decisionWhen you relocate for a job, you're choosing to pack up your belongings and say goodbye to friends and family. In Amazon terms, this decision is largely viewed as a one-way-door decision; a decision where you can't easily hit the undo button with your actions. A tricky scenario that might arise is one friend being promoted and expected to manage the other, says Brandon Smith, a career coach and therapist known as The Workplace Therapist. If you suddenly become your friend's boss, you'll have to navigate a new set of interactions, some of which have the potential to cause friction. With 1:47 remaining and the score tied at 38-all against the Chargers on Sunday, the Detroit Lions coach went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Los Angeles 26-yard line. A field goal would have given Justin Herbert and the Chargers a chance to win or send the game to overtime. Goff then kneeled down three times, Riley Patterson kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired, and the Lions prevailed in a 41-38 shootout over the Chargers. Goff responded by leading the Lions (7-2) on a nine-play, 53-yard drive, culminating in Patterson's kick. It was the Lions' longest touchdown run since Jahvid Best went 88 yards in 2011.
