Gregg Zehr, president of Amazon's hardware research and development group, known as Lab126, has retired, the company confirmed to CNBC. Tom Taylor, senior vice president of Amazon Alexa and a member of CEO Andy Jassy's elite S-Team, is also retiring, Amazon said. In July, public policy chief Jay Carney left to join Airbnb, and 23-year Amazon veteran Dave Clark resigned as retail chief a month later. Two prominent Black leaders — operations executive Dave Bozeman and Alicia Boler-Davis, senior vice president of global customer fulfillment — also announced their departures in June. The average tenure for vice presidents is about 10 years, and for senior vice presidents it is "much longer," the spokesperson said.

Seasonal variations, data-quality changes or momentous events - such as the pandemic - all can lead to a string of bad AI predictions. Also to blame was its AI system learning from corrupted data, the company said. Arize AI, which raised $38 million from investors last month, enables monitoring for customers including Uber, Chick-fil-A and Procter & Gamble. Zoldi said consumer habits were changing too fast to rewrite the AI system.
Astronauts love fighter jets, and billionaire founder Jared Isaacman is no different. Isaacman, who founded payments company Shift4, is deep into training with his team for the first spaceflight of the Polaris Program, announced earlier this year, in partnership with Elon Musk's SpaceX. Isaacman's crew of four is using fighter jets — including aircraft from his personal fleet — to prepare for flying to orbit on the first mission, called Polaris Dawn. "We can't go to space very often [and there] is a lot of planning that goes into a mission," Isaacman told CNBC's Morgan Brennan at an airfield in Bozeman, Montana. "We want to use as much time leading up to [the launch] for training as possible," Isaacman said, adding that "using fighter aircraft is a great analog" to spaceflight.
