The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents 15,000 pilots at the Texas-based carrier, said on Monday that 72.7% of the pilots voted for the deal which will result in an immediate pay raise of more than 21%. Overall, compensation for pilots at the airline will rise by more than 46% during the contract's duration. With no letup in travel demand, airlines are in a rush to staff up, bolstering the bargaining power of pilots. Rival United Airlines (UAL.O) last month announced a preliminary deal for a new four-year contract that would give its pilots a cumulative increase of 34.5%-40.2% in pay. American's contract includes about $1.1 billion in immediate, one-time payments and ratification bonuses.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer delivers his speech during a session of the Parliament in Vienna, Austria, May 12, 2023. REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/File PhotoVIENNA, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Austria's conservative Chancellor Karl Nehammer wants the right to use cash enshrined in the constitution, he told Austrian media in remarks published on Friday, an idea the far-right Freedom Party has been pushing for years. Most opinion polls show the anti-immigration Freedom Party (FPO) in first place with a clear lead over the opposition Social Democrats and Nehammer's conservatives, who are in a two-party coalition with the left-wing Greens. "The issue of cash is very important to people," Nehammer told Austrian media, including news agency APA. "It is important to me that cash be written into the constitution," APA quoted him as saying.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermidAug 2 (Reuters) - Occidental Petroleum (OXY.N) on Wednesday raised its full-year production forecast by 1%, but missed second-quarter profit expectations due to a slide in oil and gas prices and took a writedown to exit some operations. Weak oil and gas prices have hit earnings of U.S. oil producers after a bumper year in 2022 when Russia's invasion of Ukraine buoyed energy prices. The better-than-expected output in the quarter also helped the company raise its full-year production guidance by 1% to between 1.19 million boepd and 1.24 million boepd, from a midpoint of 1.195 million previously. Meanwhile, rival U.S. oil producers Marathon Oil (MRO.N) and APA Corp (APA.O) reported quarterly earnings that beat analysts' estimates on higher than projected output. Apache said output was tracking in line with its full-year production guidance of 404,000 to 408,000 boepd.

The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents over 15,000 American Airlines pilots, did not specify the value of the revised deal. The American Airlines revised deal also provides pilots full back pay for this year. In line with United's deal, pay increases for American Airlines' pilots will now take place on January 1 instead of May 2 as provided in the original deal. An American Airlines spokesperson described the revised deal as a contract that its pilots deserve. Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) is now the only major U.S. carrier that is without a new pilot contract deal.

New York CNN —American Airlines (AAL) agreed to raise its pilot contract offer by more than a billion dollars to bring it on par with the tentative agreement competitor United Airlines reached with its pilots last week. The total offer reaches about $9 billion dollars in incremental compensation and benefits, CEO Robert Isom said in a call with pilots Friday. Isom said the United agreement “changed the landscape” and had wages that were higher than Delta’s original negotiations. Last week, United Airlines pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, reached a deal in principle with the airline, giving the pilots up to a 40% raise. Last week, APA President Ed Sicher said in a statement it is “dead obvious” their union’s existing tentative agreement is “woefully deficient by comparison” to the tentative agreement reached by its competitor airline’s pilots.

July 21 (Reuters) - American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O) on Friday said it raised the value of its contract offer to pilots by more than $1 billion to match a more generous deal at United Airlines (UAL.O) after American's union warned that ratification was in jeopardy. United's pilots will get cumulative 34.5% to 40.2% pay raises in that four-year agreement. The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents American's pilots, warned on Sunday that ratification was in jeopardy. Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for the union, said earlier this week that United's pilots would earn at least 2% more than their 15,000 counterparts at American. The union also said United's back pay, days off for junior pilots and sick time were superior.

CHICAGO, July 18 (Reuters) - American Airlines' (AAL.O) pilot union has warned that the ratification of the company's new contract deal is in "jeopardy" as United Airlines (UAL.O) has raised the benchmark with its own deal, according to a union memo seen by Reuters. A spokesperson for American Airlines said the company will work with the union to make sure its pilots are taken care of. United's four-year pilot deal offers cumulative pay raises of 34.5% to about 40%. Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for American's pilots union, said United's contract will lead to at least a 2% pay gap between United and American pilots. United's back pay provisions are also better than what American has provided in its pilot deal, he said.

June 2 (Reuters) - American Airlines Group's (AAL.O) pilot leaders have rejected efforts to join the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), union spokesman for the U.S. carrier's aviators, Dennis Tajer, said on Friday. Support from the Allied Pilots Association (APA) board fell short of the two-thirds needed to start merger talks with fast-growing ALPA, the world's largest pilots' union, which recently joined forces with aviators at Air Canada (AC.TO). Pilots at North American carriers are making workplace gains in new contracts as travel rebounds from the pandemic. Allied, which reached a tentative deal last month that boosts pay by 21% in 2023, agreed in November to create a merger committee to look at joining forces with fast-growing ALPA. The group AA Pilots for ALPA, which supported a merger, said in a statement they were disappointed by the APA board of directors' decision which was made on Thursday afternoon.

What's the best age for kids to start using social media? Surgeon General Vivek Murphy that social media presents a "profound risk" for the mental health of adolescents and teens. Murphy's warning, which came with recommendations for how the tech industry can revamp social media platforms to make them safer, follows a similar health advisory issued by the APA earlier this month. That's easier said than done, especially when all your kids' friends have social media accounts. "We have no psychological science demonstrating that kids will suffer for not being on social media," Prinstein says.
The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents over 13,000 pilots at Texas-based American, said on Friday it will move forward with completing contractual language before presenting the contract to its board for an approval. The sources said the contract lasts four years with pay rates comparable to those secured by pilots at Delta Air Lines (DAL.N). Delta's pilots in March ratified their contract which includes over $7 billion in cumulative increases in pay and benefits over four years. It underscores pilots' bargaining power as airlines rush to boost staff numbers ahead of what is shaping up to be a busy summer travel season. American, Delta, United Airlines (UAL.O) and Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) are estimated to hire about 8,000 pilots this year.

“Social media is neither inherently harmful nor beneficial to our youth,” said Dr. Thema Bryant, the APA’s president. The recommendations emphasize that adolescents should have instruction in social media literacy and psychological development before joining social media as well as occasional training to bolster their knowledge as they go along, all to minimize potential harm. They also advise that social media use should be tailored to the child’s developmental stage — and monitored by adults in the case of younger children. But how do you convince a teenager to get on board with safer social media use? Teens are experiencing much of their social life on social media, and rather than shame it, we should collaborate with the younger generation, she said.
May 8 (Reuters) - Shale oil producer Devon Energy (DVN.N) on Monday topped Wall Street estimates for first-quarter profit on high demand for crude oil, and raised its share repurchase program by 50% to $3 billion. Energy companies have started boosting investor returns since last year with the excess cash they generated aided by higher crude prices. While crude price fell during the first quarter, nearly 20% lower compared to last year when prices soared to multi-year peaks following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, they were still high enough for producers to remain profitable. Shale producers Marathon Oil Corp (MRO.N), APA Corp (APA.O) and EOG Resources also posted profit above estimates last week, helped by strong crude prices and demand. May 1 (Reuters) - A union representing American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O) pilots said on Monday its members had approved a strike mandate ahead of the busy summer travel season, although the chances of an actual labor disruption remain slim. The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents 15,000 American Airlines pilots, held a strike authorization vote in April to put pressure on the Texas-based carrier for higher salary and better working conditions, even as the two sides closed in on an agreement in principle. More than 96% of the APA membership participated in the vote and over 99% voted in favor of authorizing a strike, the union said in a statement. The finish line is in sight," American Airlines said in a statement. The airline's pilots received their last pay increase in 2019.
