CNN —A pro-Kremlin Russian military blogger, Andrey Morozov, has reportedly died just days after he reported that Russia had suffered massive losses during its assault on the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka. Morozov’s death comes after he reported that Russia was suffering massive losses during its assault of Avdiivka. CNN has seen evidence Russia suffered heavy casualties during the offensive on Avdiivka, but cannot verify the estimates published by Morozov. If he doesn’t remove it, we won’t provide supplies,” Morozov wrote. On Monday, just three days after her husband’s death, Yulia Navalnaya rebranded herself as a political force, vowing to pick up where her husband left off. And yet for those left, Navalny’s death has created some momentum to keep trying. The man who put Nadezhdin forward, Civic Initiative party leader Andrey Nechaev, a former economy minister in the 1990s, denies there’s no functioning opposition left. On Saturday, the Lithuanian foreign minister Gabrielus Landsbergis posted a photo of himself with Khodorkovsky, Kasparov, and another exiled former Russian opposition politician Dmitry Gudkov. “We shouldn’t overestimate the spread of opposition ideas, opposition moods in Russian society,” says Bondarev.

Nemtsov’s death came two days before he was set to lead an opposition rally in the Russian capital. Alone with his mother for the first time in almost a year, Andrey Shevelyov had a question: Could he come home? The hotel room had a sour, rancid smell, and clothes lay mounded in a corner. Clean-shaven now, Andrey looked younger than his 31 years, like the gentle, artistic boy he had been before the psychosis took hold. Fearful of being evicted from their apartment, she and her husband, Sam, sought a no-contact order to keep Andrey away. Now they were together in Room 117 in a budget hotel overlooking the interstate.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the plane was destroyed by an anti-aircraft missile system deployed in the area of Liptsy in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, some 50 miles (80 kilometers) from where the plane came down. Another Ukrainian military source was quoted as claiming that the plane was carrying Russian missiles, not prisoners. Another puzzling element is that according to the Russian version of events, the Ukrainian PoWs were guarded by just three Russian personnel on board the plane (besides the crew.) But a large Russian military aircraft without anti-missile defenses approaching Belgorod – itself a frequent target of Ukrainian drones – would have been a tempting and valuable target for Ukraine. There’s been no visual evidence of the wreckage, and the Russian Defense Ministry has not responded to the claim.

CNN —Novak Djokovic continued his pursuit of a record-breaking 25th grand slam title with victory against Taylor Fritz in the Australian Open quarterfinals. Remarkably, Djokovic is now on a 33-match winning streak in Melbourne and remains on course to win an 11th Australian Open crown. Fritz, meanwhile – playing in his third grand slam quarterfinal and first at the Australian Open – engineered two set points at 6-5 only for the world No. After taking the first set in a tie break, Djokovic was immediately broken and trailed for the remainder of the second set as Fritz leveled the match. One daunting statistic for his next opponent: Djokovic has never lost any of his 10 previous semifinals at the Australian Open.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Novak Djokovic held off Taylor Fritz 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in 3 3/4 hours to reach the Australian Open semifinals for the 11th time on Tuesday. After Fritz held in the 11th game, Djokovic was agitated and gesturing to get the attention of his support team, calling for salts. After all that resistance, though, Fritz was broken in the second game of the third set when Djokovic converted his 16th chance. He hit back immediately, converting his second break point with a forehand that clipped the net and dropped for a winner. Djokovic had beaten Fritz in straight sets in all but one of their previous eight encounters, including last year's U.S. Open quarterfinals.

But as of the start of January, EU and G7 countries have banned the direct purchase of non-industrial diamonds from Russia. This move will be followed by further restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds processed in third countries starting in March. Industry groups including the World Diamond Council, Antwerp World Diamond Centre, the Gem and Jewellery Export Council of India and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) have been working together to develop an effective solution. What does this mean for the diamond industry? LVMH-owned Tiffany and Richemont both said they stopped sourcing Russian stones shortly after the war in Ukraine broke out.

Proper form can help you lift more effectively and avoid the most common gym injuries, according to a physical therapist. Many people struggle with a lack of ankle mobility in the squat, setting them up for inefficient form, Simeonovski said. For example, when bench pressing, aim to keep the elbows around a 45-degree angle instead of directly out to the side in a T shape to correctly engage the chest muscles instead of stressing out the shoulder joint.

Crude prices seesawed after the OPEC+ announcement. Photo: Andrey Rudakov/Bloomberg NewsMembers of the oil-producers group known as OPEC+ have tried to push crude prices upward with unexpected supply cuts since last year. Wall Street isn’t yet convinced that will pan out. On Thursday, a million barrel-a-day pullback surprised a market that had largely anticipated that the cartel and its allies would hold output steady. Crude prices seesawed after the announcement, suggesting many traders were unsure if it was the surprise they wanted.

Nov 16 (Reuters) - Alexander Zverev said he will be cheering on rival Daniil Medvedev to beat second seed Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals on Friday, as it will boost his chances of reaching the semi-finals of the season-ending championship in Turin, Italy. Medvedev became the first player through to the semis with a 7-6(7) 6-4 victory over Zverev, and the German now needs the third seed to beat 20-year-old Alcaraz. "I've never won a second round-robin match at this event and I won the tournament twice ... that obviously gives me hope," Zverev told reporters. I have to be focused and be ready ... ready to beat Andrey." Medvedev said he understood why Zverev wants him to win, but it would not be an easy against the two-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz.

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Andrey Rublev grew so frustrated during a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals on Wednesday that he repeatedly hit himself with his racket — so hard that he bloodied his left knee. Rublev had already slammed his racket to the ground during the opening game of the second set. In a first career meeting, it was a tight first set until Alcaraz broke for a 6-5 lead. Rublev called it an “unlucky call.”“But it’s part of the sport,” he said. ... Just happen that it was important (point).”In the next game, Rublev bloodied himself.

Alcaraz eases to win as ranting Rublev self-destructs

World number two Alcaraz suffered an opening round-robin defeat by Alexander Zverev, but responded with a confident display, albeit against an unravelling Russian. Rublev managed to hang on in the first set but wavered at 5-5 when he dropped his serve -- Alcaraz then claiming the opening set with a comfortable hold. Things deteriorated rapidly for Rublev when he dropped serve at the start of the second set. Alcaraz took complete control after that with Rublev seemingly playing against the Spaniard and himself. This is the level I have to play if I want to give myself a chance in this amazing tournament," Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz slow down inevitable, says Medvedev

Nov 14 (Reuters) - When Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon in July it seemed the Spaniard's stratospheric career trajectory was limitless and he would take a stranglehold on men's tennis. A few months later, however, 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic has re-asserted his authority and Alcaraz is experiencing the first slump of his career. The 20-year-old bemoaned the fast playing conditions in Turin after a surprise loss to Germany's Alexander Zverev in his opening match at the ATP Finals on Monday. Daniil Medvedev, whose defeat of Alcaraz in the U.S. Open semi-final exposed some cracks in the Spaniard's game, says that a dip was to be expected at some point. Alcaraz will face Rublev in Red Group on Wednesday when defeat could end his hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
