More airlines are partnering with "buy now, pay later" firms to give customers the option to pay for their flights in installments, instead of a lump-sum payment. But they were always predicated on the consumer being required to complete payment before they travel," Botts said. There's no credit check and no financing terms, but travelers must secure the flight with a deposit and pay the full fare before flying. Australia's largest airline Qantas launched BNPL services in May 2022, which allows international passengers on select routes to book a flight but pay the fare later. Not just airlinesThe online travel agency Booking.com works with the BNPL company Zip, which lets travelers pay for hotels, cruises, cars and travel experiences in installments.
MEXICO CITY, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Mexico is making progress towards recovering its Category 1 aviation rating, but the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet approved its plan as claimed earlier by the Mexican government, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday. Mexico's foreign ministry said earlier in a statement that U.S. authorities approved Mexico's government plan to recover its Category 1 aviation rating, revoked roughly a year and a half ago. Mexico expects to complete its action plan in December as part of its bid to recover the U.S.-issued aviation rating, the statement said. It added the FAA will visit Mexico and set a final audit date in January, in order to recover the Category 1 status before mid-2023. The FAA downgraded Mexico's aviation safety rating in May 2021, saying it fell short of regulating its air carriers "in accordance with minimum international safety standards."
Passengers onboard United Airlines flight 2038 were in for a slithering surprise when they found a snake on their plane Monday. Unlike in the 2006 cult film "Snakes on a Plane" starring Samuel L. Jackson, however, this lone garter snake was not venomous. The airline did not clarify at what point the snake was discovered or how it got on the plane. No injuries were reported, and there was no impact to airport operations, the authority said. In 2016, passengers on Aeromexico flight 23 were joined by a snake hanging right above their seats.
Oct 18 (Reuters) - The unexpected appearance of a live snake on a plane caused some turbulence among business-class passengers aboard a United Airlines jet at the end of a flight from Florida to New Jersey. The reptile stowaway, identified as a harmless garter snake, turned up on United Airlines Flight 2038 from Tampa shortly after landing Monday afternoon at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. There were no injuries, no impact to airport operations, and the plane later departed Newark, she said. No mention was made by any of the parties involved as to how the snake might have gotten aboard a commercial airline flight. Monday's incident was not the first real-life instance of a serpentine creature hitching a ride aboard a commercial jet.

Over the last several years, Capital One has committed significant resources toward making its credit card miles competitive with other heavyweights in the industry. Starting Oct. 7, all but two of Capital One’s airline and hotel partners will transfer at a 1-to-1 ratio. British Airways is one of six airline loyalty programs that will now transfer from Capital One at a 1-to-1 ratio. By moving the bulk of its partners to a 1-to-1 transfer ratio, Capital One miles are now comparable to Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards, both of which transfer to most of their partners at a 1-to-1 ratio. If you don’t have a Capital One credit card, the Capital One Venture currently comes with a sign-up bonus that can put a chunk of miles in your pocket fairly quickly.
Previously, some partners had a transfer ratio of 2 Capital One miles to 1 or 1.5 airline miles. Now almost all partners offer a 1:1 transfer ratio, which can get you more value from your miles. Starting today, almost every Capital One airline and hotel partner will offer a 1:1 transfer ratio, with the exception of Accor and Eva Air. Previously, some of the best transfer partners, including British Airways, Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Airlines, and Singapore Airlines, had a transfer ratio of 2 Capital One miles to 1 or 1.5 airline miles. The Citi Premier earns Citi ThankYou points, making it part of the family of Citi cards that also earn ThankYou points, which includes the Citi Rewards+® Card and the no-longer-available Citi Prestige Card. So if you open a Citi Rewards+ card, you won’t be able to also get the sign-up bonus on the Citi Premier card until 24 months have elapsed. And since the Citi Premier offers a much higher sign-up bonus — four times as high as the Citi Rewards+ card — and better rewards, you’ll want to make sure to apply for the Citi Premier card first. Comparing the Citi Premier and Chase Sapphire PreferredBoth the Citi Premier and the Chase Sapphire Preferred have $95 annual fees, so they’re comparable in cost. While the Chase Sapphire Preferred remains our favorite first travel credit card, the Citi Premier is an underrated contender, and should definitely be the first Citi card on your list.
You'll also earn 5x Amex Membership Rewards points when you book airfare through this program.
