Low fuel warnings for the Florida airport began emerging during bad weather along the Gulf Coast last week, delaying ships carrying additional fuel reserves that were bound for the airport. A notice flagging the issue was published by the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday.

Tensions had been growing between Salesforce Inc.’s co-Chief Executives Marc Benioff and Bret Taylor over their responsibilities and how the business was run for months before the business-software provider said last week that Mr. Taylor would exit the role, people familiar with the executives said. Mr. Benioff, who is also co-founder, became frustrated about how Mr. Taylor was spending his time, the people said. Among his concerns were whether Mr. Taylor was spending too much time in a new role as Twitter Inc.’s chairman, too much time with other CEOs and customers and not enough time on Salesforce product and engineering, the people said.
Apple Makes Plans to Move Production Out of China

In recent weeks, Apple Inc. has accelerated plans to shift some of its production outside China, long the dominant country in the supply chain that built the world’s most valuable company, say people involved in the discussions. It is telling suppliers to plan more actively for assembling Apple products elsewhere in Asia, particularly India and Vietnam, they say, and looking to reduce dependence on Taiwanese assemblers led by Foxconn Technology Group. Turmoil at a place called iPhone City helped propel Apple’s shift. At the giant city-within-a-city in Zhengzhou, China, as many as 300,000 workers work at a factory run by Foxconn to make iPhones and other Apple products. At one point, it alone made about 85% of the Pro lineup of iPhones, according to market-research firm Counterpoint Research.
Twitter Inc.’s new owner Elon Musk‘s onslaught Monday against Apple Inc. and a cornerstone of the iPhone business empire has set the stage for a potentially bruising battle between the world’s richest man and the world’s most valuable company. Apple and its Chief Executive Tim Cook have the ability to hold great sway over Twitter’s potential success, as the iPhone maker is a major advertiser and tightly controls the software on its App Store.
Apple Inc.’s warning this week about iPhone supply limitations threatens one of biggest drivers of the company’s record-breaking sales in recent years: persuading customers to buy its priciest smartphones. The iPhone Pro models, unveiled in 2019, have been integral to iPhone sales growth in recent years, helping to power Apple’s bull run, accounting for 52% of the tech giant’s record sales in the 12 months that concluded in September. This year, for the first time, the company is limiting its most advanced chips to the two Pro models. The two base models are equipped with the prior-generation iPhone 13 chip.
Investors are concerned with slowing sales growth in Apple’s services, an important area for business diversification as the iPhone becomes a more mature product. Apple is expected to report record revenue and iPhone sales for the September quarter even as investors watch closely for signs that waning consumer demand for hardware products is affecting the tech company. The Cupertino, Calif., company is set to announce its full-year earnings on Thursday after markets close. To date, Apple’s business has largely stayed strong in the face of broader smartphone-sales slowdowns and global economic challenges.

With its futuristic HoloLens headset, Microsoft grabbed an early lead in the race to the metaverse. Seven years later, its big push into augmented reality, which blends virtual imagery with views of the real world, has bumped up against the limits of the technology and the patience of company management. The device, a ring-shaped computer worn like a crown that displays digital information on attached goggles, hasn’t become a hit. Microsoft shelved a planned new version and has struggled to meet technical requirements for its biggest buyer, the U.S. Army.

Microsoft laid off more employees this week, becoming the latest tech company to show signs of concern about future demand. In July the software maker said it had plans to cut a number of positions, affecting less than 1% of its total workforce. At the time, Microsoft, which employs more than 200,000 people, said it was making the cuts as a part of a regular adjustment at the start of its fiscal year.
