REUTERS/Sergei Karpukhin/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsMOSCOW, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The Kremlin on Wednesday said the Russian government was closely involved in tackling problems at state nanotechnology company Rusnano, which this week warned of its inability to make debt repayments and possible bankruptcy without state support. Citing the company's first-half report, the Interfax news agency reported on Rusnano's debt trouble on Tuesday. Rusnano said it was currently demonstrating signs of insolvency and warned that bankruptcy was possible should its shareholders - the Russian state - fail to adopt measures to improve its financial situation, Interfax reported. "There really are problems there, and it is an issue the cabinet of ministers is dealing with very closely."

Swiatek on board with WTA's performance byes
  + stars: | 2023-10-03 | by ( Shrivathsa Sridhar | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Byes are usually reserved for top seeds at events but the performance rule meant world number two Swiatek, who lost in the Tokyo quarters, went into the first round in China. World number one Aryna Sabalenka and number three Coco Gauff missed out on byes as they had not played since the U.S. Open. The Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo was a WTA 500 event, while the China Open is a WTA 1000 tournament. The WTA said it would continue to implement performance byes on a trial basis at its events during the rest of the season and throughout 2024, with adjustments made when required. Elena Rybakina pulled out of last week's Pan Pacific Open citing fitness issues, days after slamming the women's governing body for the introduction of performance byes at the event.

Nabiullina said that discussions about currency restrictions were underway, but were largely for the government to decide. In a statement to local media, UPS (UPS.N) said it was cooperating with the authorities as they investigated the cause of death. "We train our people to recognize the symptoms of heat stress, and we respond immediately to any request for help," it said. Many European and other usually temperate countries still have no laws establishing maximum work temperatures. A view shows a portrait of Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin at a makeshift memorial near former PMC Wagner Centre in Saint Petersburg, Russia August 24. Anastasia Barashkova/ReutersYevgeny Prigozhin turned the Wagner Group from a shadowy band of mercenaries into a feared military powerhouse operating across multiple countries on three continents. Most security experts doubt Wagner can survive without Prigozhin, posing major questions about what will happen to the group’s fighters, weapons and operations. What’s clear is that the fallout will be felt far beyond Russia’s borders, especially in African countries where Wagner has been employed to help prop up leaders and suppress rebellions. It’s not clear where the loyalties are going to go to,” Lindstaedt told CNN.
